1986 and I was working at a florist delivering flowers in Austin, TX and some chick orders a black rose to be delivered to Blackie and I show up to deliver the flower around 10 AM and security shows me to their tour bus and I go on and the whole band is in the back playing cards drinking Heinekens. They offered me one and I sat down with them for about 10 minutes listening to them talking shit about life. Blackie was super smart and hilarious and the other guys were badass as well. Still today, the only Heineken I ever enjoyed drinking.

I'm 29, and have been listening to his music for a while. Obviously I missed the golden age, but I can't get over how articulate, and insightful he is. A far cry from 99% of musicians today.

...Blackie is a pretty smart dude. I think his song writing glory days are for the most part, behind him, but man, when the songs were good, THEY WERE REALLY GOOD.

I'm 49 and i went through that time and i was there in early 80s when they started.
it was one hell of a time man
one one side of the coin we were young, maybe 14, 15 or something like that, Your parents don't understand you, the world doesn't understand you, and they thought the music you were listening to were sung by a bunch of uneducated pot smoking freaks, when they compare it to their time when music was "MORE WHOLESOME" . but the thing they didn't understand was we were not listening to uneducated idiots
we were listening to people who were free thinkers who didn't want to be boxed up,
and that's why we loved them
it was a somewhat confusing time as well, but what we did know for certain was, Our music was our fucking thing and it was fucking awesome
and then you had the Metal Underground which... if you were part of it, Made you feel special because you were not just part of that generation you were part of a select group of people that no one else knew about
YEAH IT WAS FUCKING COOL AND W.A.S.P. WAS AWESOME

I saw them in Karlskoga, Sweden at their first visit to Sweden October 1984, a couple of months after the release of their first album. Their arrival in Sweden exploded in the papers and on the telly. Every parent was completely desperate and crushed when they heard about and saw pictures of WASP. It was totaly hysterical. And we teenagers only laughed and loved Blackie and the boys. And the song Animal was released separately on a big picture record with Blackies crotch only covered with a jockstrap ornated with a big circular saw blade, spread over the vinyl.... have we ever seen anyone else dressed like that, before or after Animal? Anyways, on the concert in Karlskoga, I stood in the back during the concert and suddenly I saw something come flying through the air. Towards my direction. I reflexively put up my hand and caught a... piece of meat. About half a pound of pig meat, I believe. I randomly caught the flying flesh, and I kept it! Blackie had so much fun on the stage, cutting a naked girl with a sword and throwing meat on the audience. We had so much fun, as well, to say the least. The piece of meat I brought home and fed our badger who used to visit us under our porch.
    Aaah...those were the days...😄

Remember that, I saw them at Mudd club in Goteborg at age 15, same tour,. It was hysterical what the papers wrote and what they said on TV about WASP. Of course it made it so much more interesting. Blackie seems very calm, intelligent and honest.

I am the same, I am social when I need to be but prefer to be alone for most part. Interactions with my relatives who are very extroverted can be very uncomfortable for me because they always expect engagement from my side but dealing with them is too much. The first time I saw W.A.S.P. was with Armored Saint , they were opening for Metallica at a small club. What an amazing show it was , Blackie had all his saw blades on and came out of a giant skull and threw raw meat into the crowd. I think it was in 83' , we paid $10 for tickets. Still to this day one of the best concerts I've ever seen and I've literally been to over 100! Blackie is still just as badass 40yrs later. Wish they came to my neck of the woods on this tour though , the last time I saw them was in the mid 90's.....

He seemed to be waiting for me to make some kind of hell yeah this is great gesture but I was frozen. He looked at me for what felt like an eternity. I didn't budge. When he finally looked away I could breathe again. I have some kind of social disorder that makes me freeze in a situation like this. I'm not a psycho that's there for a different reason, I just like to watch & listen. I can't bang my head or throw the horns or show any kind of emotion in public like most people. ...Interesting. I started listening to WASP right after the first album came out (84/85), then I got my hands on a 12" record of Animal, and I remember being all secretive about having the record. It was one of those things that you couldn't let your parents know that you had. For those who don't know a 12" vinyl single is basically a full size record album, but just one or 2 or so songs on it. And the sleeve for Animal has the circular saw cod piece, and blood all over it so it wasn't something that could be hidden very easily except slid into the record collection. Back in the mid 80's it was just something mom and dad didn't need to see...but on the other hand, that was something you surely showed kids at school.
That story about the FBI that Blackie talks about in the 2nd or so minute... I believe it. I remember Poison even having death threats against them in 1989 or so. I remember being at the shows and just seeing guys, who you could tell were not fans, but it seemed like they were scanning the crowd for people who were looking to start trouble with the band or maybe even fans. Definitely a crazy time with the PMRC crap going on.

Damn - Blackie's looking good. I loved WASP in the 80s and 90s, which was not easy for a feminist. I wish I could have seen them live.

I don't totally agree with him about who's the guy you gotta watch. I was never one of those people who goes nuts at a concert, I just liked to take it all in, and was always introverted so i didn't act crazy, scream and yell, all that crap. I guess I would have been watched at a W.A.S.P. show then.

That explains the looks on his face when he'd take pictures with fans, kinda had the "deer in the headlights" look? I'd be scared for my life too. "It's the chickenshit stuff!"

Blackie sure does a lot of interviews. It is amazing he can do so many with all those vocals he sings night after night on this grueling tour, huh?
More often lead singers are forbidden from doing interviews like this so they can rest up their vocal cords in between gigs.
Blackie must be very lucky his voice does not suffer, huh?
