Admit it clb was lazy I could only listen to fair-trade and a few others without getting bored . Also another problem with drake is that he cares more about his views and popularity than his artwork hence why he tries to bait more fans by being so mainstream and posting pics in every damn clubs football shirts Kanye doesn't give a f what other people think of him and his music hence why he never plays his albumns safe and they all sound different , Thanks for coming to my Ted talk . A christian, artistic genius making a tribute album to his dead mother has got to be one of my favorite musical experiences of all time. So kudos to Sufjan Stevens. Oh also Donda is good too.

As much as I love this song, and I honestly think it’s arguably like top 10 in his discography, it admittedly doesn’t fit the theme of the album very well. With that being said, it still should absolutely be included in any sort of abridged album people are making lol.

Drake hasn’t put out a creative work since he dropped IYRT, but in the end they both win with streams and attention off of that garbage beef.

@Cucio That's part of what I don't get about them two. Drake, if he wants respect he can start anytime by not making extremely safe and commercial pop music, and do *literally* anything else. He will be will applauded for it. He has the world at attention with any album/mixtape drop, do something with it.

Drake is the McDonald’s of rap. It’s decent, some people despise it and it sells. Kanye is at least a four star restaurant that has a two hour wait but overall worth every second

CLB was an alright album. Had some decent songs, some misses, sounded like Drake tryna get some hits on the radio. I ain't too mad about it. I honestly don't think Drake cared too much about a single song off the album, it was all about getting some new music out to get some streams and to make some money.
Donda was art. Donda was a man who had already experienced the biggest highs and lows of celebrity coming back to make an album about his faith, family and mother. You might not like all of the songs, but you can't argue that the music doesn't have heart behind it. The highs off this album rate near the top of Ye's discography too, Come To Life made me cry on second listen.
Donda > CLB and it isn't close. We're only gonna be talking about one of these albums in 10 years, and it's not the one where a man raps about being a lesbian.

A bit sad that you didn’t mention Believe What I Say in the review. That felt like prime Kanye. I also wished you talked about how beautiful Come To Life is
I really like Believe What I Say, I just think it feels so weird and out of place on the album. It has a completely different aesthetic and feel to literally all the other tracks. Might have been better on a different album.

I agree with Mister Bruhh, on its own it's a top tier Kanye track but it really feels more like a TLOP song than anything
The entirety of Donda feels very well put together and it all flows together well for me, that being said, the PT 2 tracks feel like DLC

Ok Ok, Junya, Donda, New Again, Tell The Vision, Ok Ok pt 2, Junya pt 2, Jesus Lord pt 2 aren’t ‘masterpiece piece songs’ and arguably Hurricane and Keep My Spirit Alive aren’t for everyone either. So including all of them and Donda Chant that leaves you with (my opinion Atleast) 16/27 that are great - phenomenal. For me the album is between a 6.5-7.5. Still very good tho overall but not a masterpiece besides a few tracks.

When I finished CLB, I thought “that was alright” and added about 3 tracks to my “songs I been listening to recently” playlist. I added about 10 from DONDA onto it and I find myself bumping at least half of the album almost every day.

Donda will be remembered for a long time. Drakes album will be forgotten within a year. Just like all of drakes most recent albums ever since 2016, he's a commercial artist. Kanye pushes boundaries and revolutionizes music. If kanye wasn't so misunderstood and hated by close minded people he would be dominating music charts more often. People don't listen with their ears they see things based on waves and clout, superficial ass world.

Because of the Donda hype I've been going back and listening to Kanye's discover. Listened YE and Yeezus yesterday and I really do like them, favourite song so far is Violent Crimes

In my opinion, I think donda is the same to Kanye fans as FIOE was to the strokes fans: was much more dark in tone than their previous work and some of the songs felt like demos.
However, if you know the history of that album, you know that it was eventually seen as great and has some of the stroke’s highest points in their discography (heart in a cage, ize, you only live once).
So in my opinion, I think donda will become a classic in a few years :)
Yeah I agree. I would say a lot of Kanye’s past albums are like that as well. From 808’s and heartbreak to yeezus which people have started to like a lot more. Another example could be Arctic Monkeys with AM and their latest album, which have aged very well despite the amount of criticism they faced when they were released. In conclusion, people usually dislike change at first and become acclimated to it overtime. With both of these albums, people will need to take their time and maybe give it a couple of listens before saying that’s it’s mid or garbage imo 🤷🏾

You're absolutely right. There's a great album hiding inside of "Donda." However, rather than 17 songs like you suggested, I'd trim it down to 12.

I absolutely love god breathed. Brings for me some yeezus vibes back, wich is my favorite album of all time
I'm Catholic and I really cannot listen to Christian music. It just sounds cringe. But albums like Donda and George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" are great examples of albums that incorporate Christian themes in an actually listenable way. They simply sound more genuine.

Ye is good with some great stand outs it’s just when you have to compare to the rest of his discography it doesn’t really come close, like take away your personal enjoyment of the record and think logically, does the quality of that album really compare to his first seven albums or nah
I also think that since universal released DONDA without Kanye's consent the tracklist is all over the place and in the end, it wouldn't have been what Kanye intended us to hear.

probably the most honest Donda review i’ve seen. i’ve seen people praising every part of it as perfect when i really just don’t think it’s a cohesive project. the highs are high but the lows are very low
Just because its long does not mean it’s bloated. I feel there is a continuous theme ruining through all of Donda, and all the songs are connected so it feels like a piece, not a compilation

Donda was Kanye’s perfect concept album. It was about recovering from grief, being consumed by ego and that there is hope for everyone. It’s the perfect synopsis of his career and his personality.
It begins with the heartbeat of his dying mother, and the album is him looking for hope while also showing his journey isn’t linear and conflicted. The album ‘ends’ with him showing that even though no one is perfect, there is hope and no child is left behind.
New Again is the Graduation song off the album. Kanye went back to that sound but the lyrics are about moving forward; that juxtaposition is why to me that song is not only underrated but a beautiful piece of art.
I think the great thing about Donda is everyone has there own album they can create out of it. I actually think 'Junya' and 'Believe What I Say' are 2 of the best songs on the album

The disconnect you felt with JIK is because it's an explicitly Christian. It was a great album. Donda and JIK are very similar conceptually and musically. I'm 100% certain alot of these songs were originally intended for the now scrapped JIK2

I wouldn’t call JIK great but I still go back to a handful of songs. I love donda because even though it may seem bloated to some it still follows a through line, he seems to be focusing wholeheartedly on the music which leaves me excited for his next project.

Kanye has been continuously pushing artistic boundaries, challenging himself and evolving his sound in so many interesting new ways in the past years, I mean just look at 2018 alone.
Drake in That time, since 2015, has basically stayed completely stagnant and shit out the same album since Views, it really seems like he doesn’t give a shit about music anymore and just about staying on the charts. I mean at least Scorpion had Nice for What, this was just one long tedious snooze fest.

I love Ye, especially if you view it as a precursor to Kanye's next bug release, Kids See Ghosts. Especially since both are very short (~25 minutes each), combining them creates one of my favorite Kanye albums ever.
Honestly though, Kids See Ghost may be my favorite Ye album on it's own though, and adding Ghost Town to it would almost certainly make that definitive.
I'm not really religious, but Donda leaves you with a happy and positive feeling that's hard to describe
i feel like opinions are definetley a part of this review especially, like, off the grid is my favorite song ive ever heard that shit has me so hyped, honestly yes the message is pretty much the entire reason for the album, but to just have music that sounds amazing is a good thing too
Donda was a whole experience that I keep coming back to. CLB made me sleep so fast I missed 3/4 of the album
I think the big thing here is we know Kanye will keep refining this ideology he has had through the past few years and eventually give us the album we've been waiting for. He's clearly getting better at it and Donda really feels like the first canon project we've got from him since Pablo. That being said, I wish he would drop the TLOP album-making process of just going with it. It worked once perfectly but it really hasn't worked again since and everything has felt slightly unfinished and I know if he just took more time to think it through we could easily get the same quality level of Kanye that we used to get. I think he'll get there eventually though.
Drake on the other, all his albums do feel finished but it's been the exact same so long it's hard to care. He's been telling us that exact same stories, using the same flow, singing the same, and saying the same punchlines his whole career essentially. I only made it about 14 tracks into CLB and just started skimming the rest of the songs. They're all over 5 minutes and he's just saying the same shit on the same production we've been getting for years. Drake also doesn't really invent new styles either, he's very quick to wave ride, and a lot of the time it just doesn't work either. When Carti got big, 10 minutes later Drake was on a Pierre beat with Carti and it just sounds off. They don't take the time to figure out what a Carti x Drake song sounds like, meanwhile, Kanye had 2 Carti features on the album and one on WLR and they sounded great together because they figured it out.
The major difference is Drake exists for sole popularity. There's virtually no substance or anything to really care about, it's just background music you don't have to think about. He'll get the hottest features and best producers and say the same shit he always does, say a few funny lines that turn into memes, and he can exist off of pure hype alone. Kanye is always trying to do something new and I think recently with the new album process he's been doing, he doesn't always find exactly what he was trying to say in time so we get a lot of incomplete work. He made Donda in essentially 3 weeks... Kanye took 5000 hours on just making Power back in 2010. Donda was definitely the better album and is the best project we've gotten from him in years, but I do miss the Kanye who worked overtime constantly to deliver fully finished projects that are timeless.
I believe Kanye just starting to mess around with this new ideia, his testing what works and what doesnt. I think we gonna have an even more amazing album soon

thirdly, great video. to be honest, after i realized a year ago that gods country was never coming out, i began relistening to jesus is king over and over again and after hating it the first listen i found myself loving it. as for the 2018 good fridays, i think it mightve been for the best that kanye split love everyone into 5 different albums but i still would have liked to hear the alternate version as one ye album.

So I’m a much bigger Kanye fan. Being from Texas I appreciate all of the Houston stuff on CLB which made me lean towards it more. I feel like Kanye’s albums take me more time to really appreciate. From release I would rank CLB higher but I know Donda will hold up to time better like all of Kanye’s work

I Thought About Killing You, Ghost Town and Violent Crimes especially are some top tier Kanye. The rest of the songs are good, with No Mistakes just being a bit short, Yikes and Wouldn’t Leave being a bit rough around the edges and All Mine being an… acquired taste.
For me, despite its brevity, Ye is on par with many of Kanye’s first 7 albums, even surpassing some.
All Mine is a banger and Ye’s verses are excellent on every track. He says he wants Kanye to take a step back but that just is stupid and something a Kanye fan should not say.

HOT TAKE : Donda is Kanye's 2nd best album (maybe even his best). A lot of people complain about the amount of features, but imo they made the album feel like a massive event with really helps the album. Donda has 3 10/10 tracks with for me is incredibly rare and no other Kanye album has reached this achievement. The only album that rivals it is The life of Pablo. Even if you removed all the emotional attachment I have and looked at the album objectively it would still be a top 5 Kanye album. (Plus I'm not even a Cristian but tracks like Jesus lord, 24 and come to life still hit incredibly hard)
Maybe our ears are different but for me donda has like 2 10/10 songs for me which is some of the least in Kanye’s discography, mbdtf has 5 10/10 songs, yeezus has 3, college dropout has 4 and so on… maybe I’m buggin or somethibg

For me Donda is what I would call a record that is made for you to make your perfect album like as stupid as it sounds but like it's seems like it'd be an interesting way to have fans engage with the music beyond listening and what not. Like make a bunch a tracks and put the official order out but then like fans can make Playlist that cut out tracks and move the placement of songs as well. I think it be an interesting record concept. Not saying kanye intended that but it's an idea that Donna gave me cause like everyone has their own way of ordering the tracks and with the stem player for as dumb as it can be you can really make your own album here

Since Donda was dropped against Kanye's wishes I think that it would've been about another month or two until Kanye would have personally released it and it would have sounded more finished. Still leagues better than CLB tho in my opinion.
