Identifying and Managing Watersprouts and Suckers

Do you have plants that have limbs growing straight up, or a cluster of growth at the bottom of your plants? You may have watersprouts growing straight up from limbs in your tree or watersprouts growing from the roots. Thanks Linda, however mine is in re: an Italian Plum Tree. trying to Identify the Water Sprouts from the Other limbs or branches it my dilemma. Our Plum is not producing since being HORRIBLY pruned by a BUTCHERING-- Landscape company.

Can I cut the water sprouts off the top of my old apple tree in spring? Now is when they are growing straight up. I’m afraid the energy will go to the watersprouts instead of the apples.
