i had that radio from 1996 to 2007 and it was amazing. I loved it. I only sold it to pay bills. I should never have gotten rid of it. They don't make good radios any more.
I had one of these about 12 years ago, bought it used on Ebay, I think I paid around $400 for it, I was impressed with it's receive. It had good transmit audio too. Needless to say, it's crazy how these older radios are still fetching top dollar.
One like this was my first HF radio, only cost $475 brand new. Had a Yaesu coupon for a discount price on the wide AM filter and remote external antenna tuner direct from Yaesu. Had lots of fun with this radio on all the bands using a G5RV from 160-10 meters even AM. The AM guys said it sounded great for a "rice burner" No amp barefoot all the way! Saw the FT-950 and decided to upgrade but I should have kept this one!
