In 1946, the US Ballistic Research Laboratory found that during WW2, for every one Sherman killed by Panthers in WW2, 3.6 Panthers were killed by Shermans. Across the board, a study also showed that for every Sherman knocked out by any German armor, German armor lost 5 tanks. Tank duels were very rare and far between, but when they did happen, it was almost always in favor of the allies, with Shermans firing first 50% of the time, even when on the offensive against dug-in German armor. This was due to excellent mobility and visibility, and aided greatly by the stabilizer equipped to 75mm and 76mm guns respectively. Bonus trivia: Did you know that there were only three documented accounts of US armor ever engaging with Tigers on the western front? Data taken from Ballistics Research Laboratories No 798 (1954) which surveys 129 tank engagements by the US 3rd and 4th Armored Divisions in NW Europe Aug 1944-March 45. The types of Sherman are not disaggregated, so the abilities of 75 mm and 76 mm cannot be ascertained from this data alone Of the 129 engagements documented, a grand total of THREE involved Tigers- serials #11, #19 and #69. #11: Tiger engaged by US tank destroyers, outcome unclear. #19: Five Shermans engaged 1 Tigers and 2 Pzkpfw IV at 900-1000 m as the German vehicles retreated. The German tanks did not seem to see the Shermans and were knocked out. #69: A Tiger attacked an unkown number of Shermans. The Shermans fired first and hit the Tiger at about 1400 m- details unclear- including angle of attack and the fate of the Tiger.
I wished they released this and included it in the Warchest too in steam but it was a console only exclusive This is one of the best WWII cod games man.

I like cod3 but there's one flaw in that mission that is theres no way can a sherman firefly can still be mobile after getting shot multiple times by a 88mm aka the tiger???
@@object7038 where you saw that ? Video games ? Movie ? Oh please cmon. One of factor german lose to allied is because german only have around 800-900 tiger tank vs 1800 shermans. The germans always running out of AP shells ammo before they finish their jobs. Plus theres soviet on the other sides. Real history record, based on real veteran german tanker, 1 tiger can wipe out 15 shermans in a way, maybe more.

Tiger tank is one of the most feared tank in the world the german engineer is no doubt the best. If it not, why most of US weapon and machinery were based on germans till now ? Sledgehammer should never make another WW2 game. Its proven they cannot master a good work of WW2 art. Infinity Ward a d Treyarch are the Kings.

The 17 pounder gun on the Sherman firefly was more than enough to punch through almost all tanks fielded by the Wehrmacht
