Hi everyone! Madelyn here. Thank you for such kind (and poetic!) comments! I've just arranged and released my version of another beautiful ancient summer song (with birdsong I recorded in this very backyard at dawn on the first of May--the start of Bealtaine!). It's called "samhradh, samhradh" and it's streaming wherever you get your music and also available for purchase on my Bandcamp ($1) if you'd like to support my work more directly. Here are the links to listen! Go raibh míle maith agaibh :) Spotify: open.spotify.com/track/4a0UWT1QpGJENP82kBeMOo?si=d7cfeefa906b40be Bandcamp: madelynmonaghan.bandcamp.com/track/samhradh-samhradh

wonderful.....draws me in.....reminds me of the happiest days of my life in Sligo....sitting in surf with evening sunsets, the wild shores, laughing and holding hands with sinead on the beach......draws my soul into a happy place of memories. beautiful voice.....
this song feels like the best kinds of dreams, of magic and nature. your voice sounds like breezes in the spring fields and the cool wind of a stream in the hot summer, it feels like warm food in autumn and home in winter.

I love this kind of singing...the way it stirs the heart n soul. How it so often 'feels' like a mixture of emotions going on at the same time; heavy/sad and somehow hopefull/happy/sereen. I'm Dutch and speak English quite well, but I've always wanted to speak more languages. Gealic, Hebrew and Navajo are the top of my top 10...

Lost on YT and found this pearl. Beautifully sung, you have such an entrancing voice. I completly forgot to like & subscribe so I had to go back, what a punishment ;) almost forgot to do it again, had to pause the vid just so I could write instead of listen, lol. Thank you for sharing your voice with us. Would love to know what you sang, could you maybe share the lyrics (original and perhaps english?) Lots of love from The Netherlands.

3 years late to this, sorry! I do teach Sean-nós, this style of Irish singing. Feel free to DM me on Instagram at @madelyn_monaghan if you're interested :)
Thank you! Sometimes I use a shruti box drone but for this I simply taped a key down on a digital keyboard! As for learning Irish, I would start with Duolingo and watching programs on the Irish language channel, TG4. They have a free player app. Best of luck to you!

I'm speechless 🍑🚫, what a prestine and surreal voice and your tecnique shines through such an artful blend of lilting vibrato and haunting stillness. I'm so glad I've come across your singing and I basically weep each and everytime I hear a tune of yours. I do believe it's a shame that you got so little views, because this kind of musical expression gleams like a star, which is near and far at the same time. The lyrics are obscure, yet meaningful; the sonic landscapes and the emotions you evoke from a single drone (by the way, this is the type of drone that governments should be founding and financing) is pretty damn trascendental and ungraspable. In conclusion, we ought to bow to your terrific performance, you outstanding breath control and your aura of mesmerizing beauty!

English Translation:
I'm a herdsman's daughter sure enough
Who once lived down by the banks of the Laune
I had a cabin there a window in the gable
While I heated the milk I called in the calves
Chorus:
The calves, the pretty calves
The calves, I loved them the best
The calves, the fine pretty calves
Dancing in the meadow on a clear summer's morning
Get me a can and get me a ladle
Get me a vessel to take all the cream
The magic music of the world always around me
But sweeter sounding still the cattle lowing to the parlor
(Chorus)
Let us go to the fair and buy us some calves
Put them to grass out above in the valleys
They'll eat all the grass and the tufts of the strange gorse
And come home for the milk at the start of the summer
(Chorus 2x)

Féinig gan amhras
Do bhíodh ina cónaí
Cois taobh na Leamhna
Bhí bothán agam féin ann
Is fuinneog i gceann de
Fad a bhíodh an bainne ag téamh agam
'Sea ghlaofainn ar na gamhna
Aililiú na gamhna
Na gamhna bána
Aililiú na gamhna
Na gamhna b'iad a b'fhearr liom
Aililiú na gamhna
Na gamhna geala bána
Na gamhna maidin shamhraidh
Ag damhsa ar na bánta
Faightear dom cana
Is faightear dom bhuarach
Is faightear dom soitheach
Ina gcuirfead mo chuid uachtair
Ceolta sí na cruinne bheith
Á síorchur i m'chluasa
Ba bhinne liomsa géimneach na mbó
Ag teacht chun buaile

Lost on YT and found this pearl. Beautifully sung, you have such an entrancing voice. I completly forgot to like & subscribe so I had to go back, what a punishment ;) almost forgot to do it again, had to pause the vid just so I could write instead of listen, lol. Thank you for sharing your voice with us. Would love to know what you sang, could you maybe share the lyrics (original and perhaps english?) Lots of love from The Netherlands.
Thank you for your kind words! Dropping in 2 years later to say I've just arranged and released my version of another beautiful ancient Irish summer song called "samhradh, samhradh" and it's streaming here if you'd like to give it a listen. Thanks again!

So this is the portable recording studio I've heard so much about
“so much” 😂
Inspiring!
A translation of the traditionals, would be greatly appreciated.
What is this song about? It is beautiful
I love the way you sing this music. Do you sing any music in any of the other Celtic/Gaelic/Gallic styles like Welsh, Cornish, or Scots?
Thank you! Replying 2 years late 😅 to say that yes! I sing mostly in Irish Gaelic, but have also sung in Scots Gàidhlig. I have a Scots track on my 2022 album, "éist" available wherever you get your music. And I figured you might want to check out my latest release, another ancient Irish gem called "samhradh, samhradh". Thanks again!

Here from tik tok (:
Welcome! :)
Please please please teach us how to sign like this!!!!!!!!
3 years late to this, sorry! I do teach Sean-nós, this style of Irish singing. Feel free to DM me on Instagram at @madelyn_monaghan if you're interested :)
Beautiful voice and song. What instrument or sound is your anchor? Were they bees?
what drone did you use? fabulous voice! how do you learn the language?
Thank you! Sometimes I use a shruti box drone but for this I simply taped a key down on a digital keyboard! As for learning Irish, I would start with Duolingo and watching programs on the Irish language channel, TG4. They have a free player app. Best of luck to you!
@@MadelynMonaghan wow, Thank you so much, Madelyn!!
I concur with Fae Fire

I actually looked this up, not from Tik Tok.
Éirinn Go Brách
What does it mean?
Dunno why but I think a DAW compressor setting is off or reverb?
Why? You sounded way better in another video.
Nach bhfuil si' go h-iontach? Go raibh maith agat.
Go raibh míle maith agat! I've just arranged and released my version of another beautiful ancient Irish summer song called "samhradh, samhradh" and it's streaming here if you'd like to give it a listen. GRMA arís!
