The Problem with Engineering in India🤯 | Ishan Sharma

  • As a former engineering student myself, I couldn't ignore the recent article stating that a whopping 80% of engineers in India are considered unemployable!
Throughout the video, I'll dig deep into the issues that plague engineering education in India. From the overwhelming competition and the emphasis on rote learning to the lack of practical skills and industry exposure, we'll uncover the factors that have contributed to the fall of engineering in our country.
The pressure to secure admission into prestigious engineering colleges often leads to a rat race where rote learning and memorization take precedence over true understanding and critical thinking. This emphasis on rote learning hampers creativity and stifles the development of problem-solving skills, which are essential for engineers in the real world.
Moreover, engineering education in India has traditionally focused more on theoretical concepts rather than practical applications. The lack of hands-on experiences and industry exposure during the curriculum leaves many graduates ill-equipped to tackle real-world challenges. The gap between academia and industry requirements becomes apparent when fresh engineering graduates struggle to find suitable employment due to their lack of practical skills and relevant experience.
But it's not all about dwelling on the negatives. I'll also share my thoughts on the potential solutions and the steps we can take collectively to revitalize engineering education in India. It's time to reflect on the system, address its shortcomings, and work towards creating an environment that fosters creativity, innovation, and practical learning.
Whether you're a current engineering student feeling lost or someone who has already experienced the highs and lows of this field, this video is for you. So make sure you watch the video till the end!
If you have your own experiences to share, I encourage you to join the discussion in the comments section.

when you say 80% are unfit for job, they are mostly from pvt colleges, only the top 5% or even less than that study in top colleges, those who don't make it there, its a sign u are not capable enough for a tech job (not exceptions), stop blaming engineering degrees, I am from one of those top colleges and I know the amount of knowledge you can gain through these colleges, if you study engineering properly, you can earn crores yearly, stop making fun of engineering, those who graduate from pvt tier 3 institutes are not engineers, those degree don't count (there are exceptions to this, I am talking about general scenarios).

earning money should not be anyones primary goal, marketing is not adding value, if you feel you are really someone who wants to bring change, get into research, invent something which makes human life easier, and I feel degrees can only teach you this, there is a recent trend wherein people are demeaning these institutes, but these are the only places who lead to technological advancement, and overall development

I think we need a drastic change in the Indian education system at the university levels. The syllabus that we are studying now is prepared 20 years ago which is not relevant in this technological world where everything is changing day by day by advancement in every sector. Students need to learn the skills that are relevant to the upcoming future and universities should design the syllabus and curriculum according to that .
My practical exams are going on and few days back there was submission of all subjects. The system focuses on maintaining students paper files in which the practicals are written and gives marks based on that instead of practical oriented approach.
The teachers teaching methods are too old while teaching subjects like Artificial intelligence, data science, they don't even know what is the current situation in the industry and what practical examples should give to students so that they can learn better

    • @user-ij5pm4nc2i

And also we have to invest in research field also , engineers are builder not researcher , scientist research things , makes formulas and ,
Find new things whereas engineers build that new things with his knowledge and make it comfortable and useable to the peoples or society .
At last , good luck to bros and misses .

While partly I agree with the points raised, but the problem is not as simple as it is made to sound. Trivializing theoretical knowledge and glorifying skill based education will never get you engineering researchers and innovators. I am an engineer myself who did his engineering degree 30 years ago. Yes, it is true that there is less emphasis on skill development. But one needs to understand that any branch of engineering comprises a very large set of skills and it is the industry which has the onus to train the recruits and impart the industry specific skills. Else, there should be one additional year of industrial training just like medical graduates. Diluting theoretical education will be as disastrous as ignoring practical skills.

in India we have the highest number of youths and jobs are less , everyone is becoming engineers and when they don't get any stable job then they start preparing for govt. jobs spend lakhs of rupees on coaching and study materials and many fail even after preparing for something for almost 5-6 years . and guess what this is really WORST !! at the end the goal is damn MONEY. SO WHY DON'T YOU BECOME ENTREPRENEURS OR JUST FOLLOW YOUR PASSION , instead of wasting time on something where success rate is very less why don't you utilize time on your passion or learning a high demanding skills?

I would be lying if I say I disagree with the points in this video but I feel that the biggest mistake that the students are doing right now is GOING WITH THE FLOW. I know that might sound absurd but as a student who is currently en route to become an engineer, I see a lot of peers just focus on the college academics and not have a clear understanding about the job market. Most of them think that doing well in college academics is enough for them to get a job and that really becomes their comfort zone. If you follow a straight path like lakhs of other students, obviously the competition will be tough. Thinking out of the box and working on the demanding skills is the only solution when it comes to students.
Coming to the colleges. Here there is a clear divide that is created. Some colleges seriously think about the future of their students. They actually research and analyze the current job market, look at the most demanding skills and design their courses accordingly. And then there are the others (which are in a majority) who either have a very weak analysis of the market or just follow the old and orthodox curriculum which is really not helpful in this era. And students tend to blindly follow this system and end up in a worse place.
Lets talk about the solution, honestly there is no point trying to blame the system and try to change it and all, we know it will take time. But as a student, a detailed analysis of the market trends and demanding skills is the best solution. Now it is completely the students decision, do you want to follow a very simple comfortable system and become one of the lakhs or work out of the way, improve your own self and be the best amongst those lakhs. Standing WITH the lakhs or ABOVE them, its your decision.

The major fault that i think that overcovers all the issues, is the education system.
The syllabus which was laid during our father's and grandfather's age is still taught in today's age of time.
For example, Now there's Chat GPT booming in the whole world every where so instead of pursuing skills in the concepts which are new and pivotal to our daily life,,, they are just making us repeat the syllabus which is outdated way before the time.
I trully understand that the information and concepts taught at that time are in use even today...but, the times are changed and the skills that we should learn with the new emerging technologies in the world are very less.

This video is the epitome of the mentality of the herd, agreed the education system has its own flaws but it has kind of become a trend for the influencers nowadays to sound cool by criticising the system every now and then, more so even coming from a guy who is not even working in the field his major was in, why do we need to listen to such people who have never even experienced the system. The subjects taught may be more theoretical but thats what forms the base of the technology which has been developed by the researchers. Its not practical, i agree, its not even meant to, keep in mind its computer science and engineering not a software development bootcamp where they will prepare you for a job. And even in your job when you rise up to the level when you have to look deeper into the architecture for solutions, you will find the so called "outdated" concepts much more useful then. Hell even a kid in 8th class can learn the so called practical skills but it won't take anyone far enough into the field, thats why almost all of the senior developers in my company recommend getting a bachelors in computer science and engineering and those who didn't regret having not done it. The problem is more with the mindset of the people pursuing the degrees, they are not interested in studying the science of computers and how technologies are engineered. They just see it as a fastrack opportunity to learn job ready skills and land a job.
    What's my take would be
    - Computer science and engineering or any of the other engineering courses for that matter ARE NOT TRAINING BOOTCAMPS,they are concept and depth oriented , so only go for pursuing those if your interest lies in exploring the depths of the subject and going far into the field, if you aim is just to start as fast as possible and earn money, follow the likes of Ishan Sharma, but kindly do a favour on yourself and the others , don't get admitted yourself into a course just to dis upon it later on.
P.S. - This was about the level of education in good colleges such as the one whose op is a dropout of, i agree 100% that leaving behind iits, nits , bits and some iiits, and others of the sort, most of the colleges are absolutely shit and don't know what they are doing.

Hi bro. How is VIT for cse? I have an equal interest in the fields of tech and finance and I have decided either to take admission in VIT(only good college as far as I know which I am getting) or to probably pursue bachelors in finance/eco.

    • @pallav7041
      @pallav7041 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@saarthakmahajan2731 VIT is good if iits , nits , top iiits and bits are not an option. Regarding finance or computer science, that you have to decide based on what field interests you more. From a job point of view, it will be much easier to get hired if you are in the field of computer science, though you will have to work on your own for it as college's curriculum most probably won't be from a job point of view.
