Techno was so creative, and I think that the collaboration between him and phil brought a powerful performance to the DSMP. It was truly a special moment in time.
Imagine if this lore was implemented last June, where the entire month Phil and Techno as obvious best friends and allies slowly uncover secrets about the Dsmp that should never be known, and Kristen the death goddess slowly convinces Dadza that he must be the only one to ever know what he knows, leading him to backstab his favorite son, then Techno dies in real life. Society would have fallen apart right then and there.
I love how Phil and Techno mirrored Tommy and Tubbo. The two pairs of bffs who throughout the whole story did their best for each other. (Except for when tubbo exiled Tommy. Hey! If Phil had betrayed Techno that could’ve been another parallel! But man that would’ve been sad. Especially with how hurt Techno gets by people who betrayed him who he thought were his friends. Maybe it’s good that it never happened. I wonder when in the story it could’ve happened.)
Why is everything acting as if Tubbo betrayed Tommy when he literally single handedly saved the entire nation by exiling Tommy? (which was the right thing to do). Tommy was stupid to give Dream a reason to start another war. If Tommy wouldn't have been exiled, everyone would've literally been slaughtered by Dream and then they wouldve all been imprisoned in a literal obsidian box forever.

I just realized that everyone who's "related" to Phil, including himself, is a backstabber. Wilbur betrayed his friends, Phil stabbed Wilbur, Tommy betrayed Techno, and Technoblade physically and metaphorically stabbed Tommy and the government with nukes and withers.
Techno and Phil just being a solid duo while the world burns around them(sometimes because of them) were the best. While drama was straining and strengthening(changing) different relationships in the SMP, Phil and Techno were just always solid and reliable no matter what. I'm glad Phil got Techno to change his mind. I like them best as BFF's.
And it did add a bit more depth to world itself. Those people of order are ones always changing, always fighting within, despite preaching order united and peace. Meanwhile, the two preaching anarchy, who would fight all those of ordered with only each other at the backs the only solid relationship. It's funny, The two who stood for anarchism, were the ones with strongest bonds, whereas those of order were fragile in comparsion
I’m so glad i watched this video, becuase Phil has put into words exactly how i feel about dsmp and the whole thing. its silly, but im having a hard time accepting that the freaking amazing thing that was early dsmp and season one just isnt going to happen again. But having it in words can maybe help a little bit :)
I'm looking forward to Season 2 personally, but I'd be really disappointed if it turned out just like Season 1. These theater kids are growing up and learning new things, and I really want to see them create new things and stories, not rehash the old. It's exciting to see for me :3

It was memories we laughed, cried, got angry with, and enjoyed fully, but I wouldn't want the cheap copies because I "want more" Ya know? I have the memories and I plan on treasuring them for decades to come.

Mianite was special for the same reason DSMP was. It was organic. There was no plan, there was no over arcing narrative, it was just four people (sometimes more) logging on to a gane everyday to have fun. EDIT: It's because of Mianite that something I do on every Minecraft world I make is build a Temple to Ianite. And Techno is the reason I build a Shrine to the Blood God im the Temple's Basement.

one of the main reasons why I want Season 2 is to hopefully answer a lot of unanswered questions from Season 1 (it probably wont) but I just hope that maybe Ranboo will reveal more of his lore and how Tales of the SMP works if the server is blown up in the future

7:03 Theatre nerd here. I had never watched a single Minecraft video ever, but found it and loved it. That’s why I stuck around, because I knew it was all made up and that made it much cooler. But what I think made it extra cool was that it was inspired by the creator’s real relationships and personalities. because everyone was playing a highly altered version of what was still ultimately themselves, every character (if the creator chose to,) could easily have an ongoing story that was really detailed and interesting, even if they put little into the writing of the overall plot, they could just react to what was going on in the way their character would. Also really good perspective on why it can’t be recreated.
Phil is right, things will never be the same in many ways. They cannot return, but can be adapted upon - Techno lives through our memories of him and the DSMP S2 cannot achieve the same effect as S1

I watched Mianite as a kid. It was what got me into minecraft and even got me to learn how to host a server. It was a group of people goofing off, but also had overarching lore and plot. Seeing the DSMP around a decade later reminded me of it. And now I hope that Captain Sparklez (Ianite for life) will get to relive some of that rp lore in OriginsSMP.
I get what people with expectations for season two are thinking. They miss the familiarity of it all and the nostalgia of “how things used to be” and are afraid of changes, which I completely understand. Change is definitely scary, but something new can be wonderful too

True. S1 of DSMP had such a good lore and we had such a great time watching it. I agree with Phil, we can't expect better, things got so complicated after the end of the first season. But we can always watch the VODs, the stream highlights or the episodes of this totally unique season whenever we start missing it, or just want to take a look at the good old memories again. People do have to remember how season 1 started, and also WHY it started and WHEN. These were creators locked at home like everyone else in the world, looking to make the most of this time at home to work on their careers. They only needed a stage, because they were already pure talent and had experimented and practiced with content (previous smps), so still just waiting to explode, AND now they had their audiences already sitting and waiting. But that time has passed, and in a way it was a rare occurrence like the lockdown itself was. But I understand that some of the audience being so young and immature, never had that general perspective and maybe still doesn't...
This reminds me of what my GM decided was happening to my character in a Pathfinder campaign. TLDR, my Rogue's backstory included an assassin as his fiance, who he accidentally kills in a Mr and Mrs Smith style encounter. Years later, when the campaign starts, he's working at a church with a priestess who, while helping him through his depression, has started to develop the Nightingale Effect (she falls in love because she wants to heal him). Fast-forward about five months into the campaign, and we fought an Aboleth. The fight goes well, but afterwards my rogue triggers an illusion/teleporter trap, and he fails his Will Save, charging into the trap trying to save the illusion of his dead fiance. The next session, without my input, started with my character chained up and forced to watch his dead-and-inexplicably-evil fiance torture (both normally and sexually) the priestess who was helping him recover from his Death Seeker tendencies. That did *_NOT_* go over well with me. He ended up having to cut the session short (because I ragequit about two minutes into his BS), and then had the priestess "wake Ova from his nightmares" after the rest of the party dragged my comatose body back to the kingdom's capital, instead of the "fun" someone's he wanted to use, where the rest of the party would be traversing a maze full of traps (without a trap specialist) and enemies _on par with the Aboleth,_ which I'll remind you was barely defeated by _all of us working together,_ in a race against the clock, with my sanity and the priestess' soul on the line as the price for failure. Needless to say, the GM learned the valuable lesson of ASKING THE PLAYERS if they were willing to deal with emotional torture BEFORE subjecting us to it.
Bro that's so Techno to change it because it made Philza sad, that's actually so sweet and funny. Forget about making the viewers sad, the actor couldn't even handle it. I at first liked the idea better, but two demi-gods (okay they basically are demi-gods, right?) against the world is better imo because a betrayal seems like a cheap tactic for an emotional response and doesn't fit the rest of the story from what i know of the lore, which admittedly isn't much. It seems like their characters were pretty tight, so another betrayal after "everyone" hates c!Technoblade seems like overkill to me

I'm glad the story ended with Phil and Techno against the world. Friendship is highly underrated oftentimes, and the Dream SMP doesn't have enough of it. A lot of the friendships were either circumstantial (think the members of L'manberg or Rocket Duo), broken at one point or another (Clingy Duo, Bee duo, Bedrock bros, Happy Duo etc.), or not given much focus to begin with. The story of the Dream SMP is an absolute tragedy, but it has its bright spots. Emerald Duo is one of those, and I'm glad it stuck around :)
if they bring it back then they should make it the lore that technoblade was like a great figure from the past where they build statues of him like how their are statues of george washington(for the us) idk it would be cool to see techno statue or techno cult
Honestly, I might be a bit biased, cuz I mostly followed Techno, but Techno definitely largely carried Dream Smp at the end, and his death really was the final nail in the coffin of that series.
i dont think i personally will be there to watch the s2 because like phil said, it can never be as good as s1 and i kinda already dropped dream smp when techno passed because he was my favorite there and it just feels sad to see everyone to move on like he never was there in the story, even though thats expected.
They really should have done this. I would lose my shit It would have been so painfull to watch Techno confront Phill and say something along the lines of "Phill i trusted you. You were the only one there for me when i was ready to burn the world and kill everything in sight" "Did all those moments we spent together mean nothing to you?" And than Phill has to bite his tongue beacause he is forced by specific circumstances to betray him and cant tell him why he betrayed him for some reason. Im not a writer but the story could be super emotional if done right
I always loved/hated the idea of Technoblade killing Phil. That Technoblade would be tricked into thinking Phil had betrayed him, jump to conclusions, and in his rage kill Phil. That Phil's one life would be poetically taken by his best friend. This hits _very_ close to that.
Build up an unbreakable friendship between characters to have an ultimate betrayal and destroy the viewer's feelings... Sounds like a Techno thing to do! My only issue would be the motivator for the betrayal, it would've felt forced

True. S1 of DSMP had such a good lore and we had such a great time watching it. I agree with Phil, we can't expect better, things got so complicated after the end of the first season. But we can always watch the VODs, the stream highlights or the episodes of this totally unique season whenever we start missing it, or just want to take a look at the good old memories again.

People do have to remember how season 1 started, and also WHY it started and WHEN. These were creators locked at home like everyone else in the world, looking to make the most of this time at home to work on their careers. They only needed a stage, because they were already pure talent and had experimented and practiced with content (previous smps), so still just waiting to explode, AND now they had their audiences already sitting and waiting. But that time has passed, and in a way it was a rare occurrence like the lockdown itself was.
But I understand that some of the audience being so young and immature, never had that general perspective and maybe still doesn't...

This reminds me of what my GM decided was happening to my character in a Pathfinder campaign.
TLDR, my Rogue's backstory included an assassin as his fiance, who he accidentally kills in a Mr and Mrs Smith style encounter. Years later, when the campaign starts, he's working at a church with a priestess who, while helping him through his depression, has started to develop the Nightingale Effect (she falls in love because she wants to heal him).
Fast-forward about five months into the campaign, and we fought an Aboleth. The fight goes well, but afterwards my rogue triggers an illusion/teleporter trap, and he fails his Will Save, charging into the trap trying to save the illusion of his dead fiance.
The next session, without my input, started with my character chained up and forced to watch his dead-and-inexplicably-evil fiance torture (both normally and sexually) the priestess who was helping him recover from his Death Seeker tendencies.
That did *_NOT_* go over well with me. He ended up having to cut the session short (because I ragequit about two minutes into his BS), and then had the priestess "wake Ova from his nightmares" after the rest of the party dragged my comatose body back to the kingdom's capital, instead of the "fun" someone's he wanted to use, where the rest of the party would be traversing a maze full of traps (without a trap specialist) and enemies _on par with the Aboleth,_ which I'll remind you was barely defeated by _all of us working together,_ in a race against the clock, with my sanity and the priestess' soul on the line as the price for failure.
Needless to say, the GM learned the valuable lesson of ASKING THE PLAYERS if they were willing to deal with emotional torture BEFORE subjecting us to it.

Bro that's so Techno to change it because it made Philza sad, that's actually so sweet and funny. Forget about making the viewers sad, the actor couldn't even handle it. I at first liked the idea better, but two demi-gods (okay they basically are demi-gods, right?) against the world is better imo because a betrayal seems like a cheap tactic for an emotional response and doesn't fit the rest of the story from what i know of the lore, which admittedly isn't much. It seems like their characters were pretty tight, so another betrayal after "everyone" hates c!Technoblade seems like overkill to me

I'm glad the story ended with Phil and Techno against the world. Friendship is highly underrated oftentimes, and the Dream SMP doesn't have enough of it. A lot of the friendships were either circumstantial (think the members of L'manberg or Rocket Duo), broken at one point or another (Clingy Duo, Bee duo, Bedrock bros, Happy Duo etc.), or not given much focus to begin with. The story of the Dream SMP is an absolute tragedy, but it has its bright spots. Emerald Duo is one of those, and I'm glad it stuck around :)

Honestly, I might be a bit biased, cuz I mostly followed Techno, but Techno definitely largely carried Dream Smp at the end, and his death really was the final nail in the coffin of that series.

i dont think i personally will be there to watch the s2 because like phil said, it can never be as good as s1 and i kinda already dropped dream smp when techno passed because he was my favorite there and it just feels sad to see everyone to move on like he never was there in the story, even though thats expected.

I always loved/hated the idea of Technoblade killing Phil. That Technoblade would be tricked into thinking Phil had betrayed him, jump to conclusions, and in his rage kill Phil. That Phil's one life would be poetically taken by his best friend. This hits _very_ close to that.
