    Its worse here, our economy is like a flailing fish, fighting for its life. The normal state of the U.S. economy is actually very bad. Because of this it goes into convulsive spasms fighting to grow any way it can out of desperation. Tricks, gimmicks, rule changes try to stimulate the economy and prevent it from falling but they only bring temporary relief to people since, when you factor in inflation we are declining.

      People believe their currency has the worth it does because they have no other option. Even in a hyperinflationary environment, individuals must continue to use their hyperinflationary currency since they likely have minimal access to other currencies or gold/silver coins.

      Inflation is gradually going to become part of us and due to that fact any money you keep in cash or in a low-interest account declines in value each year. Investing is the only way to make your money grow and unless you have an exceptionally high income, investing is the only way most people will ever have enough money to retire.

      @MAC LeVa switched over to managing my own Roth IRA. After learning a lot about investing, fidelity go just does not cut it for me anymore as it is not aggressive enough. Too much emphasis on Bonds even at most aggressive. I prefer to keep my bonds less than 5% instead of 15% like it is with fidelity go.

  • @ArkansasRed2012
    @ArkansasRed2012 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    When I set up my Roth IRA even the advisor I talked to said go stock heavy. I was on the side of having more bonds (wanted a “diverse” portfolio), but after seeing a year of growth in this economy I see why.
    All I can assume is they crafted the Robo Helper software to play it extremely conservatively as people would not be talking to an actual human at Fidelity.

    • @AverageJoeInvestor

      Interesting perspective Bruce. That could be true. It definitely depends on your investing timeframe. If you are 20 years old and you need the money at age 59.5 you really cant justify being in bonds...On the flip side, if you are within 10 years of retirement your investing mindset needs to be just as focused on principal protection as it is on growth. THANK YOU for watching Bruce and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻

    Most of the new investors lack knowledge that’s why fidelity it’s giving them a security blanket. A way to invest at a very minimum risk. You as an experienced investor know that’s not the best strategy but as a new investor not knowing anything about the market it’s kinda scary.

    I'm 56 and i opened this account along with a Roth with Fidelity in June. I manage my own Roth with Mutual Funds i want. I did do the Go account using the balanced with 50% Bonds. I did the 52 week Challenge and im adding 10 bucks extra a week. The Go account is basically for me to save money. The returns even with the bonds are better than a regular savings account or a MM account. The Roth is for my retirement

    While trying to build passive income and prepare for retirement, It’s important to choose stocks that are expected to hold up in inflationary environments. To combat the negative effect of inflation, it’s a good idea to diversify your portfolio across different asset classes, such as stocks, bonds, and real estate, since this can help protect your portfolio against inflation. I have seen people making up to $800k in a month during high-inflation

    • @harrisonjamie794
      @harrisonjamie794 ปีที่แล้ว

      One strategy is to invest in assets that perform well during inflation. Another strategy is to focus on companies that have the ability to pass on price increases to their customers. It's also important to maintain a diversified portfolio. It may be a good idea to speak with a broker who can help you develop a customized investment strategy based on your individual goals and risk tolerance

      Sorry for not being clear Ruth. What I meant was I would not use Fidelity GO. Instead, I would invest in 100% stocks through an indexed mutual fund(s) and ETF's that do not include bonds. Again, that was specific to the scenario where I had a LONG timeframe to invest. An individual who has less than 10 years to retire may need to be careful to protect their principal depending on their situation and take on less volatility or risk. Hope that is sufficient to clarify the issue. THANK YOU for watching Ruth and leaving your $0.02 in the comments! =)

    Interestingly, even at a risk profile of 10, it puts you into less stocks and more bonds compared to the Fidelity Freedom 2050 Fund (i.e. the TDF for your age group).

      I wonder if it's a simple algorithm that comes up with it or is it using market data and news to predict future conditions... Probably not that smart, right?

    A robo advisor does things that you're not willing or able to do on your own. If you're "set it and forget it" and choose not to increase your knowledge, you'll get what they give you. I don't share the OUTRAGE about the bond allocation. You could drop all your cash into 100% stock if you wanted to do so. Instead of that you gave Fidelity the responsibility to act on your behalf.

      @AverageJoeInvestor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's a fair point Steve. I guess my issue with the set-up is IF they are going to ask you about your risk tolerance and IF they allow you to choose 10 out of 10 I personally believe that there shouldn't be that bond allocation, especially if they disclose they are in their 20's. Just my $0.02 though. THANK YOU for watching Steve and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻

    What % should I invest in Bonds if I'm in my 30s?

    • @AverageJoeInvestor
      @AverageJoeInvestor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      GREAT QUESTION MANUEL. Whenever we think about HOW we are going to invest we need to FIRST think about 2 important considerations: #1 What are my goals/objectives and then #2 What is my investment time horizon. We need to have clarity there first. Hypothetically, if your goal is to maximize your retirement portfolio AND you have 15+ years before you need the money then I would personally have NO MONEY in bonds. If you needed the money in less than 5 years then we would be more concerned with protecting the money you already have and would consider short-term investments, cash and bonds as part of your investment strategy. I hope that helps a bit Manuel. THANK YOU for watching and for leaving your $0.02 in the comments! 😎👍🏻
