I've only recently started watching James Hype's DJ sets and started watching how he does things. It seems like he really knows how to get the most out of whatever equipment he has in front of him, but at the same time, nothing he does is super complex
do the things he does in front of 1000s of people and try not to f*ck it up. maybe one trick alone is not so hard and you practice it but to do it so seaminglessly in a set is hard af.

@@xx-kj2it usually, yes, but he just uploaded a small set to his channel where he was using one of entry level pioneer DJ controllers. It seemed like he was only using 2 decks

Bro those transissions are fire! Perfectly hit James style! I just started with DJing like James and its really stressful😂 Just want to ask how you know where you need to stay in the track? Do you know it by heart or do you have some key point like Cues? Also which FX do you mostly take? I hear NOISE often…
i don't do anything specific, i just do whatever comes up in my head. i don't even plan any transitions or anything at all. Regarding the effects i use noise a lot, reverb, echo and low/high pass filter

The filter knob is set to the noise effect which doesn’t need a deck to be playing to make a noise

How can you have the sound of vinyl pause when pressing the “play” button? I really wanna know how to make this setting!❤
You go to rekordbox preferences on the "controller section" and then on the "Deck" tab, and increase the "vinyl speed adjust" setting
its in his style but he also writes his own music in a DAW for the mix
How do you get it to show the drums/vocals/instrumentals as differnet colours in Rekordbox? Also what effects do you have on the filter wheel and the level/depth wheel? I've just got some FLX4 and looking to recreate this mix to get some practice in :D
Theres a setting in the view section where you can change the waveform color. on the filter knob i use the "noise" filter and the "filter" one. on the level/depth knob i use echo and reverb. Thanks for the support brother!

@@DJAiwi Just to check as well, when you say you use the noise and filter filters, do you mean you have them both ready and switch between, or both at the same time? As I can't see a way in Rekordbox to add multiple effects to a filter knob

I used the first one on purpose because it is shorter. For me the second one has too long of a buildup and its tiring for the ears hearing the looped "YEAH" like a million times. thats why i used the other one, its short and sweet

Transitions are quick, and well on time. I do see 1 deck has sync on, but it’s not necessary. (I know it is stupidly hard to beatmatch accurately on the 400 tho so if it’s because of that I understand). You could also try to stretch out certain acapellas and transitions to give yourself more time and make the mix more fluent. Adding reverb during transitions is a great addition and makes the mix flow much more. All in all good job mate 🎉

Approximately how long will it take to play DJ like you?
It’s not the same for everyone - for me it took couple months
I feel like in needed a little more punch, good song selection, bad eq’ing. Needs a little more atack, like swapping the bass immediately, not having crashing with the next song. And instead off using the mids and highs to blend use the fader. When changing songs I could feel a void of volume in between transitions soo having the eq’s set up before dropping the last song could help

did you practice it before hand, or is it mostly impro? The lack of hot cues disturbs me lol
big part is impro but i obviously had in mind what i wanted to do.
lol i don't really use hotcues that much personally, i use beatjump instead but i think i should get used to hotcues as well haha
@@DJAiwi it's a lot of fun to play with hot cues as you would play the piano to introduce the new song. It's my fav way to jump from like 120 to 160 BPM - I prepare a few hot cues with short vocals, stabs, etc, isolate the mids in the upcoming track. Then I use the hot cues to play a melody like "YEAH YEAH UHUUU" in the tempo of the track currently playing. I keep playing it with one hand while fading out the current song. When it's completely faded out I just let the new one play starting from one of the hot cues
