When Matty described what kind of person it takes to coach an Origin side, he basically described everything that Brad Fittler is not.

Freddy won his first 2 series and lost his third. Billy won his first 2 series and lost his third. Madge used the blues to get a job.

Very interesting chat men, I reckon you're spot on about Ricky he's developed a hard mentality down in Canberra surely he can instill it in the great state of nsw 🔵

@@Crim_tams Do you think he could do both the Raiders and Blues roles at the same time? And would it take away from his head coaching duties?

@@BackstagewithCooperMattyJohns I reckon he can I think this whole you can't do 2 at the same time coincided with Mals success. I'd honestly like to see Bellyache give it another go and conquer that final frontier. But like coops said I don't think he will. Maybe when he hangs it up at the storm? Loved coops chat about Melbourne getting on the back of each other. They seem to all sense when they have the roll on and everyone moves as one. Thanks for the reply and the content fellas love the show 🤙🍻

Love the pod boys. You mentioned member count in Australian sport. Don't get dirty on me mentioning afl, but Collingwood had over 100,000 members this year, with the Broncos managing to chalk up about 50,000

I don't know how you can say best season ever Matt. With all the horrible bunker and refereeing decisions I've seen this year that see sides get so much momentum from them, i don't think there has ever been more blow out score lines in a season that I can remember. It can be way better. The biggest take away i have from Rugby League in 2024 is how good players have got at milking hip drop and crusher tackle penalties.

Extremely disappointed to see Madge go but he was always up front about wanting to go back to clubland. I just want to see someone who brings the same passion for NSW even if that means going back to Lozza.

NAS has had 3 careless high tackle charges in last 8 weeks. Collins was the victim.

NAS is punished with an extra week for challenging the charge and failing. Its a 5 week charge and your rewarded with a 1 week downgrade if you plead guilty.

Madge not being coach of NSW leaves us open to another host of old coaches who are not fit for the modern era of football, you saw what it took for New South Wales to beat Queensland this year, it’s a typical New South Wales problem to have when we can’t hold onto a coach for X amount of years or just have a shit one we can’t get rid of

Experience , plus a pathway from coaching, ie, coached with the appropriate accreditation, proven coaching record and not some glamour player, that has been handed a coaching role, to be a senior club coach or even higher, takes over a decade to achieve , not a role that can be actioned on playing reputation alone

Hey boys I love the pod but if nsw want a hardened coach that has experience and bleeds blue why don’t they look at Geoff toovey? Not many people bleed more blue than him. He is also experienced head coach as well. I thought he would have had the job before madge.

Going to disagree with Matt on a couple of things. (1) I think he, and a lot of nsw in general, are way WAY overthinking the origin coaching thing. The constant switching of coaches was a death sentence to nsw. You can have the greatest coach in the world, but it was never going to change the outcome of the qld streak. The fact that Slater was appointed coach given his lack of coaching experience proves that nsw don't need to have this ultra specific type of coach that Matt is describing. But that leaves me to my second point
    (2) I'm a born and bred two headed qlder. I grew up and live in the town where slater lived, so by all accounts I should be completely one eyed to Bill. However, I'm sorry but I'm just not sold yet on slater as a coach. Matt saying he's the greatest origin coach is wayyyyy over inflating reality. In most of the games he's coached, QLD were very lucky that nsw had a lot of key players out, and when he needed to adjust and make the minimal changes that most fans were crying out for, he doubled down and I believe it cost him the games he's lost. The most recent being Reese Walsh. Credit to nsw, they rattled him a couple of years ago and he hasn't been the same since. I don't believe he's suited to the origin arena anymore and if the broncos whispers are true, I think he's a divisive player that slater has an unrealistic infatuation with.
Time will tell if any of this is accurate or I'm completely off course, next origin series will be very interesting, particularly if qld have key players injured again

I respect Matty's opinion when It comes to NRL analysis but I disagree you have to be a NRL coach to be a great origin coach ,I think Madge did well because he is a great motivator, not because he's a NRL coach . The greatest origin coaches in my eyes have been Mal ,fatty ,and Tommy ridonikis ,none of them could coach NRL week and week out although Tommy tried ,origin is simple game plan wise but is all about seige mentality and redlining for 3 games with some sort of motivation, wether it's us v them or no one thinks we can win ECT ECT ,thing NSW have up there sleeve is Qld think they own origin ,could use that as motivation for 10 years ,Qld those yuppy bogan dogs ,think they own origin ,guchi bags wearing qlders ,f them ,then just Rip some Qld heads off ,,that's what Madge did ,,he just got them to rip in ,Qld think they own origin ,enough said ,go Rip some heads off .Qld have been bullying NSW for years ,go Rip some heads off ,,that's what he did well Madge ,
