- Here we have a lovely old jewelers / watchmakers mouth blown blowtorch, not a gas lamp lighter from Mary Poppins as some people think they are.
Constructed of brass with a rubber tube, this would make a fantastic addition to any workshop or man cave. What a talking point.
The larger knurled ring unscrews and allows you to fill it with mentholated spirit. This is absorbed into the wadding inside the body of the torch.
The smaller knurled cap unscrews exposing the wadding. This is lit giving you a naked flame. The flame is enhanced by your breath, which you provide through the rubber tube.
These torches were used for years in the jewellery / watchmaking trades.

Just bought one of those on eBay. It needs a new rubber hose and a clean up. Perfect addition to my ever growing collection of jewellery making tools. Thanks for the demonstration.
Cheers Paul hope you enjoy using it.
👍. Used the town gas blow torch for years in jewellery work . The older jewellers told me they used to have a flame at bench that they would blow through like that . Must have been away for fine working . That’s a nice torch you have .
Cheers, yep simple but works really well.
Now it all makes sense on how it got it's name, thanks for the video.
Cheers, everyday is a school day.
If only everything in life was so simple!!
regards . . . Andy
You and me both! Cheers Andy

Cheers

GOOD DAY. kimberzelik
Thanks and you have a good day too.
I have a slightly bulkier version of these that I’m looking to sell. I was wondering if you knew anywhere that I could sell this since I’ve asked many antique shop owners and they don’t want it due to its rarity
They don't want it cos it's rare, mmm don't sound like any shop owners I've met! Yeah I have a few including bigger ones, maybe try your local auction house, they usually will sell anything for you. Good luck and thanks for watching.
@@mattsbitsnbobsworkshop by what I meant when they said they didn’t want it because it’s rare they meant they didn’t want it because it’s so rare that nobody will know what it is and nobody will buy it. And also thanks for the advice, I certainly check around
@@mreclipse7957 tell them to watch this video haha, hope it sells for you, Matt
What max temperature?
Not sure but they were used for jewellery for years so in that range I would think, cheers for watching.
