Daniel, I am the Senior Distiller for Nelson’s Green Brier. It made my heart happy to see our product on your channel considering you helped inspire my interest in whiskey to begin with. I wish you the best, and thank you for the review! - Ryan Smith
I appreciate dry week. It never hurts to do a personal inventory from time to time. It is also part of community to support each other. I am glad to be here.
Just keep being your authentic self. Honestly, I enjoy whatever your topic is that you want to talk about. You come off as very relatable, which is a wonderful thing.
Holiday oriented episodes are not important to us but a dry week is worthwhile. What is more important is for you to remain steadfast in your passion and your ability to connect to us normal people who treasure what you say.
1. Finding yet another story about Christmas or Leap Day can eventually be really daunting. I think acknowledging the big holidays and cracking something nice is sufficient. 2. Dry week is a great tradition. I think it's great if you happen to line up with the Tribe, but you all were regularly taking your weeks at different times outside of the scheduled dates. I think it buys Daniel a week of catch-up, reset, or distance which provides room for imagination to pop-up.
Daniel, I'm gonna be straight with you. I enjoy what you are doing here and it doesn't always have to have a theme. Now, when you can tie things together with a nice bow it's cool. As for the Dry Week question, I agree that it's important. If anything, just mention it quickly on the front end (even if it's an add in after recording) and press on. Cheers!
Dry week, Yes 👍 Theme videos, Yes : Leap Day. Christmas🎄, Easter🥚(your birthday🎂) etc. Like to hear your take on different holidays and how you go about it 😃 Cheers in Apple-pie "moonshine" 🥃
Daniel, your channel already has so much educational content and fun facts that it doesn't really matter if it's holiday related. Most of all, what's encouraging for us the viewer is that this series continues the passion I've seen over the years and we are so grateful for that! Good job bro!
I gotta say very entertaining on my first wedding anniversary, the longest one year anniversary because…..leap day. Ok, so don’t strain yourself, if you have a good holiday tale great, if not it doesn’t matter. But I did enjoy this because of you pointing out how leap day celebrations are odd, haha, we figured it will keep us young. In the past 4 years we have moved into a new house witnessed the birth of our 2 boys, and got a dog, but it’s still our first anniversary. I’ll probably open up something special I have been saving and enjoy a nightcap tonight, cheers!
Here's my opinions. 1. I enjoy when a story lines up with a holiday but is not a must. 2. I think even this channel would benefit from a dry week as it keeps people honest and allows them to take a break. Especially if they have been trying to buy these bottles and taste along with you. Sidebar - I really like the heads-up knowing what is in the shoot so i can pour a dram if i have the bottle. Like the recent Ardbeg! 3. How do you feel about setting up a Discord to open discussions between viewers and the school?
Your desire for a more open forum for discussion immediately had me think of discord but then just as quickly discard it as something of a nightmare for the number of members such a server would draw. I don't use social media so I generally discourage Facebook and such but it might be a better solution to your desires.
I think this new format is a breath of fresh air, I really enjoy the stories you share and the back to basics style. No need for themes. I personally do not usually participate in dry week at the same time the group does but I feel it’s an important part of the overall experience within the tribe and in the spirit of unity it would be good if this channel followed in line with the rest of the tribe. Just my two cents.
One of my bestest friends is a leap baby. When we were younger I called her every year at exactly midnight on the 1st! Now it's just call it the 28th so its early instead of late. So this year she turned 11!! Cheers Daniel
The heartfelt stories are more impactful, but if you happen to have a story that lines up with a holiday, by all means take whatever creative freedoms you desire (it is YOUR channel...)
Love the honesty here Daniel, seriously. A dry week is important, if not for sobriety/dependency issues, then at least for what Ralfy describes as "palette recovery". We should all just walk away from whiskey just to appreciate it more at the other end of that self imposed deprivation. Cheers!
I like the way this channel is going, and it doesn’t need to coincide with the tribe that channel I like for very different reasons, but I really like the way this one is headed
I'm liking the current format. If a theme pops in your heart...go for it, but I'm just as happy getting your outlook on life, ideas, and of course whiskey. I have no opinion on dry week.
For me I think some holiday themed episodes could be fun😊 No need to force anything though. If you have something that comes to mind great, I would enjoy that. Doing dry with the tribe works for me🙂
As far as holiday focused content goes, you're good with mee. i dont celebrate holidays! These subjects you bring about allow me take a step back and reflect upon the perception and knowledge you give. On another note, I truly do not have the time to drink whiskey as i have two jobs. Thus, dry week isnt applicable to me. Take care team!
Looking forward to a live stream. When it comes to a holiday / theme, I think it’s important. I also understand sometimes it just doesn’t make sense. Today’s video was great to watch because you just sat down a shot the breeze with us, and didn’t fake the funk.
Normally I wouldn't care about what special day was mentioned or a video was released on but I've really connected to this format. Your insights and personal stories have been refreshing and a welcome reset in the day. If you have a meaningful anecdote or lesson that correlates with a particular holiday then I would certainly appreciate it. When it comes to dry week, would you entertain doing it and doing a throwback to when you and Rex would review or talk about specialty versions of other things like honey? It was helpful already being familiar with your type of analysis and then seeing that with another medium. You rock, 'nuff said.
In general, I love the stories that have been coming out and the vibe of this channel is going in general. What really makes a video great for me is when you are passionate. Seeing and hearing your passion for what you are talking about really draws me in, and I find myself thinking about part of the video and/or message throughout the day. Response to video questions: -Regarding holiday stuff: if there is a whiskey story or fact that hooks into the holiday, then I think it would be fun to include (if you mention religious based holidays, please try to include more than just Christian based ones). If there isn't something special to include, then a quick nod and move on or skip seems reasonable. 😊 -Regarding dry week: I think it's a good thing to take breaks, but I personally don't care about having it on this channel. I think it makes more sense on the other channel, but completely understand the view point of keeping it. (Honestly, I only drink a couple times a month as it is, but Iove the content here and on tribe.)
I'd say if something comes to mind for a holiday themed episode that's great otherwise don't force it. As for dry week, I'm in for lining up with the tribe. Again, I'm really enjoying the new direction of the channel. We'll done sir!
I like the idea of dry week, even though I have a nice whisky collection, I don't drink to often so I'm not concerned for myself, but I think it's a great practice to have in place and for your own piece of mind to know that whilst you're talking about whisky, you're ensuring that everyone remains accountable for themselves and check in and ensure they don't have a dependency forming
I really like your content and your best videos are when you’re talking about what you’re passionate about, or a topic where you have insight or a good story to share. If that happens to be something about Christmas when it’s Christmas, cool, but no need to force it. Focus on what moves you or is fun. It’s where you shine. Thanks for doing this. I look forward to these.
Don't worry about a theme to match the day of release. Your new fantastic format holds up on it's own. Although a dry week thing would be cool. Looking forward to the potential livestreams.
I didn't knew those intresting facts about leap day. I love the theme idea. Usually i drink once or twice a week so i get my dry week quite a lot, but it's still good to have one with group. Thanks for video.
I think that connection and sense of community is important. I don't know if I have any mind-boggling suggestions for how to accomplish that connection, but I wanted to encourage you along those lines. As far as themes, *shrug* if you get inspired about how to tell a story with a holiday then go for it, but otherwise I don't feel like it's missing if you don't mention it. Whether Dry Week continues here or just as a part of the Tribe group is also up to you. I take breaks regularly on my own since I have to be in the right frame of mind to have a drink. I'm very conscious of how my children perceive whiskey in my life because of my own childhood and how some of my foster kids' bio parents abused it as well. Dry Week is great because, like you said, sometimes tea is better than whiskey. I also think that Dry Week gives you an opportunity to either take a break from having to produce as much content or to talk about something else. Either way, I'm glad you're here too. Cheers!
Themes, holidays, alignment all seem like tools in your arsenal but not the main thing. Stay authentic and if there happens to be alignment to a theme, great! If not, I'm fairly certain a lot of us would come to listen regardless based on the voice and real human connections/stories that this channel has come to represent.
Being from Nashville I want to add that this is under $30 (at least around here) and at that price point, I would bump it up from a good whiskey to a great under $30 whiskey. As far as correlating a holiday to a video, I say it doesn't have to be related. If you have something that you want to share, great. But don't fret over it if it does not align with the date on the calendar. If allowed, I would vote twice in keeping in line with dry week on the Tribe channel. I did not practice this prior to watching you guys a couple of years ago but I feel that it is something that I need to do to keep a healthy relationship with whiskey.
I (Frank) like the idea of staying connected to the Tribe dry week. PLEASE keep at least a small connection. We love you guys as a whole and separately. The TH-cam Live is also a great idea.
As someone who works with the ravages of addiction I think it's critical to incorporate a "Dry Week" into this channel! Alcohol still rivals every other 'drug' including 'opioids' and dependence is a massive issue. To be responsible encouraging judicious use is important in my opinion. Sadly I diagnose Alcohol Use Disorder almost daily. So there's that! I felt it's important to throw that in given you spoke of whether Dry Week should continue. I'm not trying to be a downer! I love my dram here and there of fine scotch and occasionally a Bourbon or Rye or perhaps a stiff cocktail but in moderation. Great message Daniel and I vote for continuing Dry Week to do a check-in and yes, if it's difficult stopping alcohol (or any substance) for a week - take it seriously! Love your stories and whiskies featured! I have a friend who was born during a Leap Year and he celebrates on the 29th every year!! That became his new birthday!! This Tennessee whisky sounds lovely!! I'd love a dram!! Hope this wasn't too heavy! Talking about stuff is an occupational hazard of being a psychologist!! Cheers! 🙂
I appreciate what you do for us beginners ,what that said thank you brother keep it up .....!!! And a live chat or super chats would be great . Thanks again
Thank you for the videos, it's good to hang out with you even if it's just like this. I don't think the episode necessarily needs to match the holiday it happens to land on. I also think breaks from tasting / drinking alcohol is a very good thing and a Dry Week is a very good thing, especially when things can creep up on you.
To me it’s not important to hit all the holidays. I could maybe see Christmas but not everyone celebrates it so… I half to say I’m enjoying this format more than I thought I would. There are aspects I miss from the “old ways” and I’m sure you do as well. Just know there are a lot of people who appreciate what you are doing. Hope to see you soon at Crowded Barrel. The wife and I are do for a drive to Salt Lick for lunch!!
Yes dry week or weeks is important. If something comes naturally for you to speak about on a holiday yes. But not every special day needs a relative story. I like the wing it spontaneous also
Aligning a theme/holiday isn't that important, unless it's something profound, like in the wine-iverse the release of Beaujolais at midnight one week prior to Thanksgiving. I truly just like listening to your review and, so far, the stories and histories you've shared. It's an educational and thought provoking journey that I have enjoyed watching/experiencing. I'm just glad to be here enjoyingk a dram whilst you have a one-sided chat with me. Sláinte, Daniel! 🥃🥃 *dry weeks are a good practice, and coordinated with the Tribe makes sense. Also, adding a Discord channel is a way other YTubers have made it more of a multiway conversation.
I like the paired content when it’s something relatively rare/unknown and maybe connected to the whiskey. It matters less to me when it’s Christmas or something like that. I like the idea of the vault going forward with new ideas or philosophies!
I’m pleased with this Whiskey. Just picked up a bottle today for $27 and for only 2-3 years it drinks older imo. Agree with a lot of your tasting notes on this one, has some youthful corn almost like a savory cornbread and am looking forward to their own juice getting older. A BIB would be interesting for Green Brier
I enjoy hearing about the things that move you. Holiday themed episodes are fine but not important to me. I don't drink daily sometimes not even weekly so I could live without dry week.
I would say necessary is a strong word however I have very much enjoyed the story telling and the videos where I learn something, which is most videos. So I think the theme on special occasions or holidays would be cool if it kept with the spirit of this channel. Dry week I don’t have experience or a connection with because I go long periods without drinking anyway. Bottom line, just keep it going!
Missed this channel for awhile, not sure why I stopped getting notifications. Did the tour at their distillery in November. Their story is that they found the bourbon recipe because it had been printed in a newspaper. Also, they were able to get back their original distillery number, #5.
In a previous video, you asked us about local small distilleries. I mentioned one near me called H Clark and that I had not been able to find their stuff recently. I did some more digging and found out that they were either bought, or they merged with another distiller, and now they are known as Company Distilling. Then within the last couple weeks at my local liquor store, I stumbled across a bottle from them, and it’s finished with Maple wood. This was my first of that type and it was fantastic. Not the BIB that made me think of them and tell you about them originally, but this was good enough to again recommend them to you. Also, themes are not as important. Message and quality content supersedes. Not to say you couldn’t do it if you wanted to or had a good idea.
It's nice to have some alignment with holidays, but not necessarily imperative . Alignment with dry weeks might be a better plan to keep some continuity and reflect the importance of catching any issues earlier rather than later.
7:14 I get a citrusy sour note from regular Bushmills and Mellow Corn, and of course there's no charcoal filtering there. And I've gotten a very strong, horrible sourness from a couple of other corn whiskies. I *think* that the citrusy sourness might come from corn. The Bushmills is a blend of barley and grain whisky, and of course Mellow Corn is at least 80% corn. 9:18 Whether you connect an episode to a day is up to you. If you do that's fine, and if you don't that's fine too. I'm not a huge fan of dry week. I understand the purpose and have no objections, but *for me* it's not necessary. I drink so little that I can go all year without any trouble. However, if you want to do a dry week on the channel, it's your right, and I won't gripe. 🙂
I can appreciate dry week. I think seasonal theme content is worthwhile if they segue into a meaningful story or whiskey review. I love a good drinking story or nice chapter reading or poem. I also like to geek out over the whiskey making process. On a side note; is there any interest of packaging a guided trip (of MB's) to Scotland and Ireland again? You would be a great tour guide. Love your format but I wish sometimes you had another person to interact with. You and Rex played off each great. I like your Rock N Roll stories too. Stay true to yourself.
I don’t necessarily need themed specific shows. I tend to listen whenever I have the time and sometimes I catch up a couple of shows at a time or skip to a topic or whiskey I find interesting
I like the theme around a holiday when it works... I agree that dry week is important, but I still like to see discussions about whiskey while I am not drinking it. In fact, I suggest if you can't watch whiskey reviews without drinking, you may have a dependency problem. Just my opinion.
Man I really love these videos, lots of great insights and philosophy, combined with great whisk(e)y. I like that it’s independent from the Tribe stuff, and that you’re doing something unique and fantastic. I don’t see any need to have to integrate or time your stuff with the Tribe channel. Keep it up!
You do you!. If you have a thought or story on your heart regarding a holiday, great. If not, no biggie. Dry week is a good idea but I would do it when it works for you. The acountability to others might help some folks so having a dry week buddy might be a good idea.
I moved to Nashville 2 years ago and this has quickly become one of my go-to "daily" affordable sippers. I really enjoy it. Glad to see you review it! Also, you should try some of the stuff out of Pennington Distilling Co. here in Nashville. Their regular line of Davidson Reserve is excellent, but their single barrel bottles (especially their rye) are fantastic!
In response to your request for ideas about how to promote interaction with those interested parties, here are a few ideas that I feel will help with making connections while promoting and sharing the whiskey experiences. 1. Borrowing an idea from the SMWS you could set up some zoom sessions. Their sessions typically ran in 1-hour blocks with the actual zoom session lasting approximately 40-minutes. Of course, in their case they had several reps that could host the sessions so no one individual was tasked with doing all of them. One I recall had 14 other members participating in the session. The session was set up as a Q&A, but also to ‘share’ a dram with other like-minded members of the Society. Fortunately for me, and the others in the session, this particular session was the last of the day and the host kept it open for about 1-1/2 hours. Totally up to the host, but it made a lasting impression on those participating. The last one was in 2022, and I personally feel the=at the SMWS has lost connection with their members since then. Personally, I have established relationships with several individuals around the world via zoom, that would not have happened otherwise. 2. Create a patreon channel. Setting the monthly rate not too high (similar to Ralfy) and possibly just for ‘graduates’ of the Whiskey Academy, to include us “lowly” Bona Fides. While this would possibly limit those participating it would allow, provide, encourage those graduates to share amongst themselves, and provide an avenue to promote the advancement of those interested in further education in the whiskey industry. After all, its about promoting and 3. Another idea, and possibly the easiest to implement would be to establish a discord channel and do periodic live voice chats that would be open to any that are online. This could be between just those members or preferably include you. Personally, I can attest that I have ‘met’ several individuals around the country via discord and have established a ‘relationship’ with them that would not have been possible otherwise. 4. The quarterly dry week is a great idea and keeping it the same as the Tribe would be a good idea, especially since many of your followers are also following the Tribe. However, ending it at noon on a Friday SUX! While I cannot speak for everyone, I’m sure that many of your followers, and the Tribes followers, work for a living and having an ending live stream in the middle of the day on Friday pretty much excludes us, especially if you’re looking for a connection. In my opinion starting at 6:00pm EST would allow more participation and viewing opportunities. 5. As for holidays, I think ‘whisk(e)y holidays would be a great idea, and other ‘regular’ US federal holidays IF it makes since. Trying to do something for every hallmark holiday or PC holiday will be crazy and will detract from the other more meaningful holidays. (just this guy’s opinion) 6. Lastly, and most importantly, keep doing the things the way you’re doing them. The ‘story telling format; is awesome. It’s working! The format you’re working with is something that your viewers are enjoying. At least I think so. Of course, feel free to contact me if you want to discuss further. Cheers, Joe
Love this channel, it’s quickly becoming my favorite! To the first question, I’m here to hear interesting, thought-provoking information (and when possible, paired with good whiskey), and am not terribly concerned with whether it aligns with a particular holiday/celestial event. To the second question, I agree dry week is very important, and whatever content you choose to upload is content I will watch. Cheers, thanks for doing what you do!
I'm a big fan of recommending a regular dry week. I don't think it should be required to tie in episodes with a holiday, but I do find it interesting if there is content that happens to work.
Holiday themes are not important for me as a viewer, I love the themes you come up with and look forward to your themes and what's on your mind and what's your thoughts/view points... regardless of the holidays
Daniel…. Love the content you have been putting through, I would agree with most here… dry week should be honored as like a cop whiskey vault/ tribe channel to keep everyone on the same path. As for your content do what you feel is the best content can assume most who watch followed you and the whiskey vault from tribe so why not collaborate on certain things from time to time. Since now your not affiliated with them.
My wife wanted to get married on Leap Day, so we were engaged for 18 months waiting for it to roll around. On off years we celebrate on 2/28 and 3/1. When Leap Day rolls around, we try to do something extra special. I have no chance of forgetting our anniversary, and have lots of friends that always wish us happy anniversary because they remember it, too.
Themes are always kinda fun BUT not necessary at all. As for Dry Week, I always do Dry January and Dry September and have been doing that for like 10 years at this point, so I don't really have a preference about syncing Dry Week with the Tribe. I can do without it, but it might be nice to keep up with "traditions"? So what do I mean by this? I LOVE your new video format and fully trust you to do your thing and what you love. It will probably be awesome whatever you make of it I think. About sorts of communication rooms outside of the TH-cam comments, I would suggest either a separate Facebook group or a Discord server for the Vault. Thats probalby the easiest ways to do it in my mind.
I think keeping dry week is important, and I would prefer it to be aligned with the whiskey tribe to keep some solidarity within the community. In response to your other query, I do like holiday specials. They make my favorite shows more relatable as they seem to be celebrating with me.
Dry Week is good occasionally, recommend synching due to high overlap of audience. Topical to holiday is nice to have when there's a relevant story, but not a requirement. You're the storyteller here, we trust your judgment on the matter. Keep doing you man, ido miss the old ways but honestly love what both the channels have become.
I found the channel when I was looking for whis(e)y reviews. I’m surprised that you didn’t review a Tale of Winter for Christmas. I’m cool for a dry week on here as well. I get the idea behind it and support those who do it.
I love it either way. For me the strength of this new format is how personal it gets. The simplicity and honesty is it’s most charming quality I feel. So, pointing out holidays and special occasions fits in, but I also think that meticulously planning content would somehow lessen that for me. If that makes sense. Anyway, love what you guys do, thanks!
If you're shooting WELL in advance, trying to remember any sort of holiday is difficult. I'm two weeks ahead of things at best, and a MUCH smaller channel, so holiday videos are just fun for me. Hell, March means all Irish whiskey videos, but that might be an excuse for me to get 4 more bottles of Irish whiskey every year. I think I'd like to see more of the Wizard Academy property for a few tastings, weather permitting. It could also lead up to opening up topics of conversation, much like the Wise Men painting in the current videos did. Part of what I personally enjoy about Wizard Academy is the remote feeling and a type of quiet peacefulness that is in short supply in my state. 🖖😎🥃
Please do what you do and are doing...We can get conformity to arbitrary social norms (important to some) anywhere. Dry week is a good thing (and I use it) , let Rex handle it. Thank you for giving us something to think about.....
Normal holidays like Christmas not too important. However for St. Patrick's day an irish would be in order and for cinco de mayo maybe something finished in a mezcal barrel. As for dry week I believe they are important. They do not necessarily have to line up with the Tribe's dry week.
If you can’t coordinate dry week with the Tribe channel maybe just raise a dram to them on dry week 😂. As to holiday themes, I could go either way. I do like the idea of a live stream with advance notice of the (generally available) beverage being sampled during the live stream so we could all drink along. Either way keep doing what you’re doing as I at least am enjoying it. Cheers
The tangy you described sounds like the metal maple syrup tang I equate. Fun to line up but I may not watch it on the day it lines up. But could be helpful for searches in the future. Fun to try dry weeks with whisk(e)y without abv.
Overall personality it's not a big deal, and, it's a fun little thing to see. I think the vault should continue the day week, it's a really important check in. My most important thing with this channel is continuing the story telling with/around the whiskey. I personally love where the channel is going and hopes it continues to go that direction!!! 3/5 stars wouldn't change a thing
I'm finally coming around to the new format. Keep it up! When whiskey mom and dad told me they were divorcing I was sad I admit but I'm digging the new arrangement. (Now just get modern rogue mom and dad back together... that's been a mess lol)
Hey Daniel, so one Indie that I believe makes the best vodka in Canada does so by making it sweet, and they did some of their R&D, briefly, in Scotland; and their long term plan is to make aged single malt. Another Indie that I believe makes the best gin in Canada does so by making their vodka super, super clear, and they did their R&D, extensively, in Kentucky; and their long term plan is to make aged Corn/Rye/Barley and Canadian Whiskey, and it already is exceptional as well as is their gin. So since sometimes things are simple and when they are, we should work to get all the good people in the Indie industry "in the know." So this is what got me thinking: obviously the clearness of the vodka is what is making the botanicals in the gin so, soooo bright and shining with clarity; and the sweetness of another vodka so good for vodka cocktails, but could it also be true that a distiller's vodka could be a reflection of how they are making their pre-make for their aged whiskeys? If so, should we not tell all the distilleries that we want to succeed to make sweet pre-make when they are making single malts going into used barrels, and make clear pre-make when they are making American style whiskey with corn/rye/barley going into new oak. If I am right, it doesn't apply to mashbills with super high corn ratio, but does apply to the standard or more traditional kentucky mashbill because the mashbill needs to shine with the similar clarity in whiskey as the botanicals do in gin. Also, if I am right, then when making single malts you do not want to make the pre-make super clear because it will cause a certain profiles like oak to be overpowering (since their is an absence of grains and botanicals that need clarity.) If I am right, then all Indie's trying to do American style in addition to single malts would need to drastically switch gears and create their mash and structure their heads, hearts, tales differently between the two. Just a thought... Even if I only have it right about the different levels of filtration and not of sweetness in the new-make between scotch and bourbon, maybe there is some other difference that exists and should be common knowledge among distillers. If so, sometimes if not often, is it the way a distiller makes their vodka and gin a representation of how they are making the pre-make for their whiskeys? If so, should distillers and whiskey experts be going around making tasting notes on the pre-make of every distiller and creating common knowlege to push the Indie distillers forward?
Don’t care about themes, that’s for people who don’t have awesome whiskey to talk about 😊 I do think having a dry week here and there is a must like you said, keeps us in check. Love the videos!!!!
I dig a seasonal kind of vibe, but really matching the calendar is nothing I need. Also checking in is important, I fully aggree. During covid I was really getting into Scotch and Cocktails and I've gained weight. So now I've dialed the alcohol back, hit the gym regularly and I've lost weight. I don't think a dry week every three months is the way to go though, since it's not enough. Maybe a reminder every friday would suffice.
A leap day was added every 4 years, but because that overcorrected the issue you mentioned in the video slightly, one leap day was removed every 100 years. It turns out that that undercorrected the issue by a small amount, so a leap day was added every 400 years. So, in essence year 2000 was a year that was equally divisible by 100 and 400, so the leap day of that year was a truly rare one because it is technically a leap day that happens every 400 years. This went almost completely unnoticed. Thought you were going to talk about this! Cheers!
Yeah, it's complicated. Back in the 90s I was writing a scheduling system for the county indigent health care office, and one feature of it was that it couldn't let peeps schedule appointments on days the office was closed. Thus it had to block out weekends and holidays. So I had to write a formula that would identify which days were Sat or Sun, going forward in perpetuity. Pre internet, it took some effort to suss out the formula. The side benefit was that it was Y2K compliant before the panic set in.
Daniel, I am the Senior Distiller for Nelson’s Green Brier. It made my heart happy to see our product on your channel considering you helped inspire my interest in whiskey to begin with. I wish you the best, and thank you for the review!
- Ryan Smith
That's amazing! Thank you, and keep up the good work!
No theme/ alignment necessary. Just Do what sparks joy in your heart.
Completely agree, just want to hear Daniel speak and talk about whiskey!
The best vault videos are the whiskies you like to talk about, they way you like to talk about them
I appreciate dry week. It never hurts to do a personal inventory from time to time. It is also part of community to support each other. I am glad to be here.
Right on!
I think keeping dry week and on the same schedule as the Tribe is a great idea. After all, it's voluntary.
Cheers!
Oooo an extra video!
Welcome all Whiskey Vaulters to Story Time with Daniel!
You can watch the short to see how I screwed that release date up :-)
@@WhiskeyVault It's all good (I just watched the short); I don't think any of us will complain about an extra video on this extra day.
I'm here for the story's, honestly as long as they are entertaining I will watch you. You are an amazing guy.
I like the themes but mainly i love these videos. General knowledge, whiskey notes and general content.
Good luck figuring it out. In the meantime I’m really glad that you’re here Dan.
Discord sounds exhausting to me. I'm pretty sure I'm not cut out for it.
I suggested Discord then deleted it. Yes. Exhausting
I think dry week is important, and it should tie in, it's a good reminder to everyone to look after themselves.
You do whatever you want, I'll be here to enjoy it!
Looking forward to a live stream. When it comes to a holiday / theme, I think it’s important. I also understand sometimes it just doesn’t make sense. Today’s video was great to watch because you just sat down a shot the breeze with us, and didn’t fake the funk.
I think aligning on dry week would be good to continue. Its a good reminder for people.
Loving the channel and the videos. Please coordinate dry week with the tribe, it is important to me.
Response to video questions:
-Regarding holiday stuff: if there is a whiskey story or fact that hooks into the holiday, then I think it would be fun to include (if you mention religious based holidays, please try to include more than just Christian based ones). If there isn't something special to include, then a quick nod and move on or skip seems reasonable. 😊
-Regarding dry week: I think it's a good thing to take breaks, but I personally don't care about having it on this channel. I think it makes more sense on the other channel, but completely understand the view point of keeping it. (Honestly, I only drink a couple times a month as it is, but Iove the content here and on tribe.)
Your stream of consciousness stories are awesome. I dont care if they line up with holidays but the dry week is a great idea.
Cheers!
Not even a little bit.
You do your thing.
Love your content.
Keep it up.
Don't worry about theming or dry week. Just keep doing what you're doing. I like the new format. I'm glad you're here too.
I could maybe see Christmas but not everyone celebrates it so…
I half to say I’m enjoying this format more than I thought I would.
*dry weeks are a good practice, and coordinated with the Tribe makes sense.
Nothing is wasted that brings a 15 minute smile 😉
I enjoy hearing about the things that move you. Holiday themed episodes are fine but not important to me. I don't drink daily sometimes not even weekly so I could live without dry week.
I would say necessary is a strong word however I have very much enjoyed the story telling and the videos where I learn something, which is most videos. So I think the theme on special occasions or holidays would be cool if it kept with the spirit of this channel. Dry week I don’t have experience or a connection with because I go long periods without drinking anyway. Bottom line, just keep it going!
No theme, no dry, just Daniel in for a chat. Glad I was here.
I really appreciate these videos and whatever you decide to do, I'll keep watching!
If I put whiskey into the barrel today and bottles it on Feb 29, 2028, would i have to label it as a 1 year whiskey?
Thanks for the video and information on the leap day 🥃
I don’t necessarily need themed specific shows.
After all, its about promoting and
(just this guy’s opinion)
6. Lastly, and most importantly, keep doing the things the way you’re doing them. The ‘story telling format; is awesome. It’s working! The format you’re working with is something that your viewers are enjoying. At least I think so.
Of course, feel free to contact me if you want to discuss further.
Cheers,
Joe
Ive been there and it is a nice pour and tasting session. Nashville. They also distill Belle Meade
I like the effort to line up the videos with holidays….I believe aligning with dry week is important.
I now expect every episode to be celebrating a holiday. You can find them for every day online, and I know you love research!
Live Streams are a Awesome way to Interact with the Peeples 😎
I love it either way. For me the strength of this new format is how personal it gets. The simplicity and honesty is it’s most charming quality I feel. So, pointing out holidays and special occasions fits in, but I also think that meticulously planning content would somehow lessen that for me. If that makes sense. Anyway, love what you guys do, thanks!
Daniel, you're doing great!
We need dry weeks and themes for holidays is nice!
Normal holidays like Christmas not too important. However for St. Patrick's day an irish would be in order and for cinco de mayo maybe something finished in a mezcal barrel. As for dry week I believe they are important. They do not necessarily have to line up with the Tribe's dry week.
There are so many holidays out in the world so you do you and thank you for your insights and knowledge of whiskey and marketing
Themes are cool, they generally come with extra goodwill and bon ami, jump on any feel good moments that the calendar gives us 🤷♂️
Overall personality it's not a big deal, and, it's a fun little thing to see.
Don’t care about themes, that’s for people who don’t have awesome whiskey to talk about 😊
I do think having a dry week here and there is a must like you said, keeps us in check.
I'm actually 2 weeks into a dry month, it is very important to make sure there are no issues.
