I think in Landa's case, it means he's inescapable. You have no where to hide, no way to conceal yourself against him. His sees all, hears all. Terrifying.
Waltz’ acting was incredible and it is without doubt one of Tarantino’s greatest characters but the big surprise for me was how Pitt not only held his own in their scenes together but stole the show.
The opening scene and the dialogue between the Frenchman and Landa is fantastic movie making. Writing, acting, camerawork, lighting, EVERYTHING works toward ratcheting up the tension of the scene.
100%, I learned English in school but German and Finnish with work and pure curiosity, not only to understand but to blend in with society, an awesome experience, plus my native language, Croatian, I even tried to learn Hindi but it became a big pain my head after that
Is he still fluent? Has he met the most holy trinity’s birth mom? Is Yaweh’s mom a virgin? Do you believe in virgin births? I do. How do I know Yaweh’s Mom is not a virgin? What about Mary, Jesus’ Mom? Nope. How do you know?
@@peterk8909 I agree except that I did not judge. Who do you quote or misquote? A book? A dead demigod like Yaweh who or his birth mother or his grandfather Zeus or Beowulf
@user-vv5hv4ti8n stop trolling to be controversial. You have no reason to doubt his statement, which I believe is true unless proven otherwise. My grandfather was a mechanic in the war. That's it. Humble. He served. OSS is who they make movies about.
Academic Europeans from smaller countries might speak several languages at least decently. I myself can communicate with not much of an accent in several too. I might not be fluent in terms of vocabulary or grammar but still my pronunciation is ok. That’s what might be a bit of a musical ear. But I know a lot of people around who speak besides their native at least two other languages very well.
Knew a man who survived WWII because of his ability to speak a new language like a local within about six weeks. He was Czech, and when I was a kid my mom was best friends with his German wife. He spoke English like he was born here, and had survived through the war and various ebbs and flows of the various military's. His wife, German told my mom the story... Some people can do it, the vast majority of us cannot. Here's one who does it online, I first watched him speaking Chinese then other languages. His latest I believe is Navajo...
I have Czech and russian as mother tongues, learned English via the internet/youtube, and studied Spanish for 8 years (also spent some time in Andalucía). Recently I've been reading and listening to Ukrainian but I still don't have a very big vocabulary in it. Also started French courses.
Christoph Waltz MADE the Landa character, Tarantino just likes to take credit for it. How about he say something like “Waltz was the best actor I could have ever picked to bring this character to life”. Ego. Yeesh
See him acting the character "Dorfmann", a guy who went to Brussels, which meant fighting against Burocracy of the EE.UU., I just don't recall the movies name, but it's worth it.
Ervry time Col. Landa showed up he made everybody else disappear. What a great personality. Mr. Waltz is a fantastic performer, suave, educated and full of Old World charm.
few people that speak several languages. Many, manyyyyy people speak at least two. That is totally normal. Even three languages is not rare. One language is rare(but maybe normal in the US?).
Brad Pit's character is so American he would have been found out by Hans Landa. He would have figured out that Lt. Aldo Raine did not speak Italian, and immediately would have changed his mind and never made that deal.
Linguistic genius is right. Understanding why we use language is the key to learning one. Babies understand : you want a cookie? Making these sounds in sequence will get you one.

last time i was in morocco and Lebanon people and local seller can speak perfect French Italian Spanish German...majority of people there speak Amazigh and all Arabic dialects they hade perfect accent
I recently read a biography about the English actor James Robertson Justice. In his war time service he worked alongside Ian Fleming of James Bond fame in intelligence. He could speak 20 languages to a decent level and was fluent in 10 of them. Can anyone imagine speaking 10 languages fluently.
That impressed me when I lived in Germany too. I had friends who spoke great English as well as several European languages. I also had a friend who spoke several European languages as well as African languages. They said is not hard after you learn 2 or 3, there are similarities and you learn much faster.

Your one language can't cover the area ours can. If you wanted to cover the distance from NYC to L.A., you'd have to know a few languages.😅 Also, English is probably as universal a language as we'll ever get, thanks to the achievements of the British Empire.❤
My grandmother had a real talent for languages. She was a prisoner in Auschwitz as a teenager and she would sit by the radio as often as she could. They would play news stories, prisoners could keep up to date on the war. The same stories on different stations that played different languages. And eventually she could speak basically every language in Europe and she learned more later on. She'd say "if you want to learn a language, just start thinking in that language" 😮🤔 It was amazing 😂
Amazing person and actor Christopher Waltz is. Tarantino could have written a show around Waltz’s character Landa and it would have been amazing. 🤩
He pretty much did
I think in Landa's case, it means he's inescapable. You have no where to hide, no way to conceal yourself against him. His sees all, hears all. Terrifying.

Christoph Waltz as Hans Landa was absolutely mesmerizing to behold. Masterclass.

Watching landa play with his food in this movie is what made the character such a robust villain 👏🏾 bravo
Wait for the creme’
Similar to how I feel about Tony Soprano. He takes a backseat to no one in the food- playing game.
Waltz is an amazing actor.
Tarantino has written so many great characters over the years. Calvin Candy and King Shultz from Django Unchained are two of my favorites.
Major Marquis and Chris Mannix as well.
@@TJ-fe7rr yes!! Those characters were fantastic as well. It’s hard to pick just a few from Tarantino’s films. There are too many to choose from.

Waltz is the most underrated actor on the planet. Quintin was about to give up on bastards because no one could fill that role. Waltz was a homer

Tarantino said that. He said he won't make this movie if he won't find proper actor. Then Waltz came on casting. The rest is history.
Despite the fact that Christof made such good work, Jean Reno could have done the rol and could be an interesting option.
I suppose you believe Tyrion Lannister wasn't a great character until Peter Dinklage showed up. SMDH. You know nothing of how direction works on set.
