It did not impress me. Compared to two films that became some of my favorites of all time, The Northman was devoid of so much potential that Eggers has to offer. Very much looking forward to Nosferatu though!

It’s partly based on the early medieval Scandinavian tale of Amleth, which was the inspiration for Hamlet, which itself was the basis for Vinland Saga, Lion King, Sons of Anarchy, etc.

Film is subjective. Say what you want about Eggers, you can't deny that his work is madly impressive and unique with the amount of detail and accuracy it possesses. And I wouldn't say he's overrated. I'm sure people said the same about the all-time greats when they started out. In fact as far as recognition goes he deserves so much more.
The first two films were incredible, overwhelming experiences. I cannot wait for the third!

His Viking film gives me some real Vinland saga feels from the setting to the violence and revenge.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention his short film Hansel and Gretel. I believe it really highlights his ability to produce an immersive atmosphere.
