This video combines all three parts of our Webinar Series: An Introduction to Vibration Analysis with Dan Ambre, PE, founder and principal engineer at Full Spectrum Diagnostics.
An Introduction to Vibration Analysis (Part 1) - 0:00
Vibration analysis starts with defining a series of potential faults. The series of faults are then logically sorted in a way that the analyst can eliminate unlikely faults from the pool. We eliminate faults with Confirming Evidence and/or Refuting Evidence.
The Vibration Fault Periodic Table™ “Structure” and “Method” is defined in our first topic.
The Vibration Fault Periodic Table™ includes 35 faults found in rotating machinery applications. These faults are logically sorted and grouped with respect to Dominant Frequency Content, Dominant Directional Response, and finally will lead to a Diagnostic Recommendation that helps us “zero-in” on the root cause.
Along with the Vibration Fault Periodic Table™, this session will touch on Transducers that are used to measure vibration signatures, common nomenclature, detection capabilities and trending data.
An Introduction to Vibration Analysis (Part 2)
The Basics of Vibration Analysis includes: Amplitude (How Much), Frequency (How Often), and Phase (a measure of Relative Motion).
Part 2 will focus on Amplitude. Amplitude is a Severity parameter that can be defined as Displacement, Velocity, or Acceleration. A basic vibration trending program will be designed to better understand energy levels, and even more importantly, changes in those levels that might signal an impending problem in the machine.
We will discuss transducer selection, the recommended severity parameter(s) and what it important concerning basic “overall” vibration amplitude trending and analysis. We will touch on statistical analysis of overall vibration data and overall ultrasonic data trends.
An Introduction to Vibration Analysis (Part 3)
The Basics of Vibration Analysis includes: Amplitude (How Much), Frequency (How Often), and Phase (a measure of Relative Motion).
Part 3 will focus on converting the raw transducer Time Waveform into a Frequency Spectrum. Defining the Frequency Spectrum opens a whole new fault detection and analysis capability in on-line trending and monitoring.
We will discuss the Vibration Fault Periodic Table frequency groupings (Synchronous, Harmonic, Sub-Synchronous, Non-Synchronous, and Modulation. Numerous examples will be reviewed to lock in the new nomenclature and provide a working knowledge of the VFPT “Structure” and “Method”.
About our Presenter: Dan Ambre, PE, is the founder and principal engineer at Full Spectrum Diagnostics. The FSD Machinery Analysis Division specializes in Experimental Modal Analysis (EMA) and Operating Deflection Shape (ODS) machinery diagnostics. Their Vibration Training and Certification Division makes use of these unique analyses by incorporating them into our course materials for a “real-life” training experience.
