As you're on the younger side of things I highly recommend really tracking your cycles and symptoms to predict when to use low carb vs. hormone balancing carb days. This is such great information! Now I had a partial hysterectomy at 44. I just turned 47 last month, and I KNOW I'm going though peri-menopause big time! Thanks to you, I am now taking supplements that are really helping me. Ashwagandha has been amazing for me! I have so much joint pain as well, particularly in my feet, so I am also starting a turmeric supplement as well. My doctor just took a ton of x-rays on my feet and ankles and I am seeing a podiatrist as well. She also just did a blood panel on my hormones and I should have those results next week. She's pretty sure my symptoms are from peri-menopause as my last blood panel showed no RA or any significant inflammation. This segment was so informative, thank you so much!

      I'm so glad to hear my tips are helping you! I'm sorry to hear about the joint pain. That can definitely be another symptom connected to lower levels of estrogen. Great topic to bring up. Definitely related to those hormone fluctuations. I recommend watching your intake of potentially inflammatory foods like inflammatory oils, gluten and dairy. I have just turned 50 and my periods are still regular, however, way heavier than usual for the last year. I had similar periods in my teens. I suffer from bloating and headaches also I noticed change in my recovery from exercise. It takes much longer than before and usually have some joints/mascular pains.

    • @FiredUppFitness
      @FiredUppFitness  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, if you follow the typically progression, your periods should start to lighten and spread out some where you'll skip month(s). Perimenopause is oftentimes referred to as our second puberty. Your bloating and headaches are symptoms of your body wanting you to change some things you're currently doing because it now has different needs. In my experience I've found that sugar and too many refined carbs are connected to headaches. How often do you exercise?

    • @mmc5005
      @mmc5005 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @FiredUppFitness
      @FiredUppFitness  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My suggestion is to lessen your exercise. 2-3 days strength and the rest just walking. Cycling may be too much everyday. Less is more as we age. :) When you get bloated, write down what food/drink you had most recently and see if there is a trend in type of food or any specific ingredients. Hope that helps!

      I’m sorry that you’re going through that. The severe bleeding is definitely worse for some people. First always check with your dr that you don’t have fibroids or polyps. But if all checks out okay definitely watch sugar and processed carb intake. Also look into Vitamin C and B12. Another supplement that may help assuming you’re not on any hormonal treatments is a supplement called DIM which is the compounds found in cruciferous veggies which helps balance estrogen levels. You can ask your dr if this would be a good option for you. All of these are natural options though. Hope it gets better soon for you. Send an update if you’d like. 😊

      @FiredUppFitness  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As long as you can rule out pregnancy, it is actually normal for it to not to come at the same time each month. Perimenopause causes your cycle to be inconsistent. You may have some very consistent months mixed in with 1 or a few inconsistent months. Eventually, it gets more and more spaced out. Start tracking it in an app like Clue where you can track both your cycle and symptoms. It will help you have a better sense of control during this time.

    I use the period cycle tracking on my iphone, it does helps predicting my period and how often or late I've been having my cycle, some times I go months without one and then I'm regular on other months, it's like you mentioned the waiting game and see where it goes, same when it comes to how heavy or light the flow goes, and the hot flashes that's another story.

      That sounds about right! I know that probably doesn't make it better, but please know that what you're feeling is very typical. I don't recommend synthetic birth control at this stage of life. It's important to find your natural balance. Have you tried natural birth control methods? You may want to see your doctor to have the pelvic pain investigated. You are at the age where symptoms most certainly can start ramping up. Lifestyle changes are essential to start if you haven't already. First addressing stress and nutrition deficiencies and overabundance of sugar and toxic ingredients. This was my favorite for hot flashes. I took one daily. amzn.to/3OOmsdO Check-in with your dr. though. Hope that helps!

    This was very informative, thank you! Not sure what stage I'm in exactly. I'm 44, my cycles are still pretty regular (haven't missed one yet), just different. Like, I may spot for 3 days before my period starts, heavier days are less than they were before, and it tapers off faster. Ovulation is sometimes uncomfortable. Never was before. Like you described though, I just don't feel like myself. I have managed to lose the 40lbs of the weight I've gained over 10 years of pregnancies/nursing. I'm fairly satisfied with where I'm at but it would be great not feel bloated at the end of most days, to thin out a bit more. I can see that I'm still carrying around an extra fat layer that didn't use to be there.
    I use to eat high protein, low/no carbs (I've always eaten clean) but this is one of the things that has stopped working for me. In fact, through a process of elimination and listening to my body I've found that animal protein makes me feel horrible. Inflammation is way down for me now that I don't consume any of it. I basically eat a whole foods/plant based diet now. My question is, I'm not sure how this fits in with your tips? I don't consume eggs/dairy/meat for my protein. It's usually beans, lentils, nuts, seeds, tofu, etc. I don't eat a lot of pasta or bread. Maybe whole oats and fruits for carbs. I do love my sweets (never processed. Always homemade) but could probably cut these out completely. I don't think I could go back to eating meat/dairy. Nothing against it, I just know it makes me feel awful. Any advice?

    • @FiredUppFitness
      @FiredUppFitness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching, Whitney! Sounds like you are in the very beginning stages of perimenopause with the bleeding changes, etc. Nice job on losing 40lbs and listening to your body! Just out of curiosity, did you test which meat bothered you most? Eggs and dairy can definitely be troublesome for some people, but I find with other proteins causing issues, it's typically specific to beef or a certain fish or one just category if that makes sense. The reason why I ask is I believe that although a plant based diet is full of healthy foods, it is also limiting in variation and nutrients. The variation and different nutrients are essential to a healthy gut microbiome. If you are still uncomfortable trying to include 1-2 protein options, I would log your food for a few days in something like My Fitness Pal and see what your carb intake looks like. I find for most of my clients bloating is caused by water weight around your cycle or ovulation, a sensitivity to a certain food (i.e. dairy), eating raw cruciferous veggies vs. steamed/cooked, and having too many carbs for their body. You may try a weekly carb-cycle approach including the higher carb starchy veggies, lentils, oats, etc. just 1-2x/weekly and the rest of the week try focusing on healthy fats, veggies, low-sugar fruit, with some protein, etc. I would also try making a shake with a vegan-based protein powder like a pea-protein to help boost your protein a little. You never have to cut out a food/treat completely, but instead plan for indulging in them on birthdays or special occasions, etc. :) One last thing I would avoid is soy products, as they are commonly included as protein sources but not as easy to find unprocessed and can cause some hormonal imbalance. Pretty much the only soy I include is edamame and eat it only on occasion. I hope that helps some! Just keep paying attention to how your body is responding... It's very smart and will guide you along the way! :)

    • @FiredUppFitness
      @FiredUppFitness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hemp seed would be another good protein source with lower carbs you could try.

    • @whitneymartinez3342
      @whitneymartinez3342 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FiredUppFitness I really appreciate your feed back! It's rare these days to get responses from TH-camrs. You've given me a few things to consider. I do use a good Pea protein powder and consume hemp seeds. Actually the variety I now eat on a PB diet far surpasses what I use to eat when eating animal products. I do steam or roast most veggies. I did a lot of research before changing to a PB diet. One thing I've learned that could be a potential issue for women like me is that it's possible that the natural animal hormones that is in all animal tissue is what's effecting my hormones so terribly. Unfortunately, I've found that regardless of the variation or variety of animal protein, if consumed regularly (for me only a few times a week), I will experience negative results. It always results in excessive bloating(not just hormone bloat)/what feels like food fermenting in my gut, inflammation, bowel slowness and severe back soreness. Most of those things I no longer experience on a PB diet. I CAN and DO consume wild caught salmon a few times a month AND pizza once in a while because I love it. This won't bother me as long as I don't consume it on the regular. You're hormone cheat sheet triggered something in my mind that could be preventing me from feeling my absolute best and losing this last 8lbs. I think my Achelli's heal is staying under 15g of sugar a day. It's never processed/refined, but still, you can over do the Larabars and smoothies. I tried this yesterday and I went to bed without any feeling of hormone bloat in my stomach!! Maybe this is what I needed to tweak...
      In regards to soy, I just wanted to share (of course, I am NOT an expert!) that it seems as though there's been a lot of new research on humans (instead of rats) that is now suggesting that soy does not affect hormones in the way we once thought. In fact, there is quite a bit of evidence that suggests that soy can actually reduce women's hot flashes and potentially reduce the risk of breast cancer. But I think it is smart to consume most anything in moderation. THANK YOU again for your feedback. It's been more helpful than you may know. Blessings!

    • @whitneymartinez3342
      @whitneymartinez3342 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @FiredUppFitness
      @FiredUppFitness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@whitneymartinez3342 Thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate it! 🥰 It sounds like you've done a great job tuning into what your body needs, so keep listening and also be on the watch for sugar intake. The overall goal is 25g/day. I also try to avoid packaged foods with >10g of sugar. I personally wouldn't recommend Larabars b/c of this exact reason. I treat all types of sugar as equal, even if it comes from a whole food like dates vs a candy bar. As I've gotten older, I've learned that there is clean eating and then there is eating for your hormones. You're at that stage where you're just having to make the shift from clean to hormone-focused to keep getting more results. You'll get there though... You're doing so many great things though, so keep going!!

      I feel ya and remember those days!! The good news is that after the shortened cycles, will come more and more stretched out cycles. I recall having 3 cycles in a row at one point being 15-17 days each. I also went up to 245 days with no cycle and then had my last 2 period in a row before finally going the full 365+ days. I know it can be annoying, but actually the older that you hit menopause, the more protected you are for bone and heart health as you age. You poor thing. That is awful, and I'm sorry you're having to experience this. Focus on the things you can control like anti-inflammatory nutrition, movement, sleep, and stress. I'd start with increasing your fiber to 30 grams/day. Watch the high fiber video I have on my channel for suggestions. Fiber helps regulate and balance so many things, with one of those being hormones that impact heavy bleeding. I would also get checked by your doctor to make sure you do not have any fibroids. I promise this won't last forever, but hang in there. Reach out with any questions!

This was a lifesaver for me during that time! amzn.to/4aozKYc Also, definitely track you symptoms and any periods to see what the pattern looks like. • @FiredUppFitness

      Assuming that you are physically healthy and not having fibroids or something along those lines, that sounds fairly typically at the start of perimenopause. But if you ever feel you have pain associated with anything, please see a doctor. Definitely track your cycles in an app like Clue so you have that info when you go to your annual exam. I would expect some months here and there with very close cycles/bleeding. In my experience I had several months that were 15-17 days mixed in with regular 28-30 day cycles. After you get through the "close cycle" phase, you should see more spacing out over several years. Tracking and paying attention to your body's needs is key at your age. Hope that helps!

      You are welcome! I am not an expert in endometriosis or a doctor, but my personal opinion is to not use synthetic hormones overall. I do think that bioidentical hormones are helpful for bone, cardiac, brain, and colon health. The most beneficial time is within 10-years from when a woman hits menopause. However, some women do need help during perimenopause for various conditions (like yours) or severity of symptoms, along with making lifestyle changes. Here is a good resource I found on the different types of progesterone that can be used with endometriosis. It may be a good conversation to have with your doctor about using a bioidentical version. www.vitalhealth.com/endometriosis-specialty-center/learn-about-endometriosis/endometriosis-treatment-options/#1555973636476-d7e3ee26-671d

    Hi. Thanks for your video! I wanted to know a couple of things...1) how much magnesium, ashwaganda and black cohosh do you recommend taking and 2) when during your cycle do you take the black cohosh? • @FiredUppFitness
      @FiredUppFitness  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the insomnia, it depends on if this is a trouble falling asleep or trouble staying asleep issue for me to help more with that. I personally take ashwaganda and Women's Balance (with black cohosh) daily in the morning. Women's Balance has some other great herbs for hormone balance too. I take 1 capsule of this Ashwaganda: amzn.to/3KzYss0 and 1 capsule of Women's Balance: amzn.to/3wUB0ze and that has worked great for me. On that Ashwaganda you can take up to two, but one works for me. I haven't had night sweats or hot flashes since starting, so I've been nervous to try to stop until I hit full menopause. lol!

    • @FiredUppFitness
      @FiredUppFitness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I find that if you're waking during the night, stress is typically the culprit. High blood sugar during the day can also cause this, so eating lower carb and limiting sugars also help. I take the same supplements daily, no matter the time of cycle. I assist my cycle with smart carbs the week prior to it when I can. It gets harder to do though with very sporadic cycles the older you get. Two things that have helped my clients that wake in the middle of the night is pairing L-Theanine (an amino acid) in the morning with a GABA supplement in the evening to calm your brain. Studies have shown these to work together well to support sleep in perimenopause. Here is what I've found to help support this:
      L-Theanine - amzn.to/364XEvF (morning)
      True Calm - amzn.to/35LdZFV (evening - this also has some magnesium)

      I hit perimenooause at 37 and my periods had just started to get shorter by a day, every few months, the bleeding also became less days bleeding overall, but I know it was peri because I had gi and digestive issue all a sudden and food sensitivities, stated having lots of bloating and gas and waking in the middle of the night with hunger/nausea, soft, floating stools, then extreme anxiety started, heart palpitations, hair loss, loss of libido, insomnia and broken sleep. I was very scared thinking the worst. I got more and more nauseous where it became debilitating and I lost 20 lbs in 2-3 months time and could barely eat anymore. My nausea got severe right before the ovulation and during ovulation then I would have not more than a few days of normalcy til truly evil PMS struck me and nausea again!! I was put on birth control basically to save my life! I was having intense cravings that when I gave into these cravings triggered an ovulation from hell or hyper ovulation. Natural remedies backfired on me hard and made it way worse! The transition to the north can trkl wasn’t easy after 13 yrs without it. I also got my first period late at age 14 and I have had two kids. No one in my family experienced this severity in peri menopause at all. I’m just glad I am not actually dying ans that it’s not Chrons or IBS or malabsorption or vitamin deficiency. Birth control cured my anemia. What are your thoughts on bioidentical hormones?

    • @FiredUppFitness
      @FiredUppFitness  ปีที่แล้ว

      My thoughts on bioidenticals are that I'm not against them, but you should implement as many lifestyle/nutrition changes, before using them. I also think they should have a full panel of hormone testing including a 4x/day cortisol check. I hear of many women jumping into bioidenticals to start with, but it ends up being a bandaid approach, and they continue to have to up their doses to find the relief because they are not living in the way their body needs now. However, on the flip side, if someone's adrenals are totally shot and they have such low energy that they can't muster up the energy/motivation to implement new change, then it's worth a try to test and use them to get going -- alongside making new changes once they start feeling better. Be on the lookout for the video I'm publishing this week! I interviewed an expert hormone health educator and we discussed this! Thanks for watching!

    I am really having a very hard time with losing weight, especially in my belly right now. I don't care about being a certain "size", I just want to be at a healthier place. I am a small lady at 5'3" and I am tipping the scale at about 190lbs. This is actually not the most I've ever weighed, but it is WAY too much weight on my frame. Now that I struggle so much with joint issues, it makes exercise very challenging at times. Any suggestions? I LOVE to walk, but there are some days that my feet just won't let me do much of that. I've been racking my brain for ways to help myself. Local pools are closed, and have been for a long time now. It is so frustrating as I love to swim as well. Thanks for any advice!

    • @FiredUppFitness
      @FiredUppFitness  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Remember that belly fat is showing you that insulin and/or cortisol are too high. Healthy and happy is an awesome focus vs. a size! Releasing excess weight can do wonders on your joints as well. I highly recommend you begin with a nutrition and stress management focus. Walk as you are able without pain to get movement in. There are many strength exercises that can be done from a stationary position like standing or sitting. Sitting on a therapy ball doing something like overhead press or bicep curls will not only help your upperbody, but it will challenge your core to keep your balance while sitting on the ball. There are many beginner exercises that a ball can help with but still provide a challenge. For lower body strength exercises try chair squats and glute bridges. Just start with one day/week and build up to 2-3x/week with some resistance training with basic movements. Let me know if that helps! Thanks! :)

    My period is only 3 days every month. Is it harder to get pregnant with a short period?

      Bleeding 3 days is not that abnormal. What matters more is how many days your cycle is and if you are getting regular periods still. Are you trying to get pregnant?

      @@FiredUppFitness I I'm trying to get pregnant. Also my cycle is every 28 day and is regular every month. But 3 days seems too short.

    • @FiredUppFitness
      @FiredUppFitness  ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe a regular cycle is a still encouraging. I would track your ovulation with tests, daily basal body temp, and/or discharge changes if you are not already to gain more insight and share with your doctor. A shorter follicular stage (time from your period to ovulation) may indicate a potential harder time to achieve pregnancy as you age. For instance, if you are ovulating before day 11 with a 28 day cycle. I would gather more info and take to your doctor for the best recommendation.

    I like Maca as well. Ashwaganda gives me a strange high feeling. I bought it from a small company that makes it taste like mint hot cocoa. Called “Chill The F*CK out”.
    Does your ashwaganda have those mental side effects? I’m afraid of it. I would love to try cohosh.
    What do you think of maca? I will link where to but the best most potent high quality maca. Not all companies sell good quality maca.

      Maca has been shown to have great benefits as well. I did not personally see the difference so hence switched to other things. I have not had that effect from Ashwagandha, but I see that product also uses mushrooms, so you may try a straight Ashwagandha product to test. This is what I currently use and only take 1 per day: amzn.to/42n9jx8

    Thanks for this excellent video! I cannot believe how little information is out there (before this year) for women our age. It's crazy.
    I learned from your video: more sad and anxious feelings! Def more stress-sensitive. dang! I am taking a supplement that has #ashwaganda and other adaptogens with a bunch of B vitamins. After resting a bunch earlier this year after adrenal burnout, I have found this supplement keeps me from needing a daily nap.

      Appreciate the nice comment and glad you learned some things! I know, there really isn't enough out there! So glad you've found help with the adaptogens-- love those! Thank you! :)

      Can you recommend a protein/collagen mix blend that supports us in peri-meno?? I just found out the one in town uses soy. Ugh.

      @@ThePsychicStylist Whey Isolate vs. pea/vegan depends on your sensitivity to dairy. I personally don't have digestion issues with it, but I have several clients that do better on a Vegan protein powder -- especially those with thyroid issues. I use soy-free proteins that are just protein powder without any extras. I've tried a dozen brands but always go back to my favorite brand, True Nutrition. Favorite Whey: truenutrition.com/p-947-rbghsoy-free-whey-protein-isolate-1lb-milk.aspx? and Vegan I recommend: truenutrition.com/p-7391-vegan-lean-formula-1lb.aspx (I get nothing out of recommending these, just think they are great products). ;))

    You have a lot of sun damage on your chest and arms, but you should do something for that. Periods can also be spaced apart.

      I do love the sun too much and have sun damage. I've actually done a treatment on my chest. Yes, periods most definitely can be spaced apart and commonly happens the closer you get to menopause.
