Busquets is superior to any defensive midfielder in history. The guy can win the ball without runing and play the ball elegantly with silky moves. The guy is a master.
Don't need to run when you have those long legs, flawless technique and incredible football brain.

@@ulissesmendoza8752 They are a different type of CDMs compared to Busquets. Kante and Makelele are far more physical and agressive and can run all around the field and press. Busquets is much more positional and known for his defensive reading of the game and awareness due to his lack of pace and physicality, his football brain is his strength, there's never been a CDM that can read the game as good as Busquets.
And he is also much better with the ball than Kante and Makelele.

I prefer a player who plays with his brain, and Busquets football mind is way superior. It's true that he wouldn't make it on any other team except for Barcelona, Man City and Ajax probably. He needs a team that presses well and that's were he shines, he's not a good back tracker. But I love possession and agressive pressing football and Busquets is the king in that system. He's one the biggest reasons why Barca have been so succesfull, he's a ball-winner despite being so slow. If Kante or Makelele were slow, they wouldn't even be 5% of Busquets brilliance and Busquets is already slow. That's the way I see it.
@Wayne Verhoff I completely disagree. Busquets is a genius. To be so good without pace and physicallity requires a lot of football knowledge. You can’t compare him with De Jong, Xavi and Iniesta because they are completely different players, different roles. Playing sideways and back is fundamental in Barcelonas style of play. He is the Messi of CDMs. He doesn’t need to run to win the ball back, he’s to smart for that.
Busquets is a coach on the pitch. A professor of midfield. Damn his mind is just something else. He is incomparable.

Busquets is more like a controller. He reads the game, orchestrates the plays. He understands where his teammates are on the pitch without even looking.
Whereas Casemiro is like a raging bull. Aggressive in defense. Shooting from outside of the box. Going in with those tackles.
Despite the same position they play in, they have very different roles. And both of them excel in those roles. So it's really hard to compare these two.
But if I had to, I'd go with Busi because of the style of play he achieved alongside Xavi-Iniesta.

Same position different styles, I love Case’s Agression and the way he would kill the opponent’s play how ever he was able to, but I also really admire Sergio’s ability to read the play so well that all he had to do was put himself in the right place on the pitch and it would force a mistake from the attacker. Oddly enough I think these two never directly disputed a ball in play in all the Clásicos they played 😯
You shouldnt compare them because the definition of the same position,the roles and their abilities are way different. What I can say is that both are one of the key players who can lead you to success
Casemiro is good, def a well respected player now, but he will be forgotten, whereas Busquets is an icon material, and will always be remembered as the part of the greatest midfield in football history

Same could be said about any great player at the ends of their careers or bayern this season. Even casemiro's united got demolished 7-0 by liverpool which he embarassed them last season with real madrid. Bayern got demolished by city in the champions league. If we go back to player's prime, its easy to see which among the 2 is better.

In my personal opinion, Casemiro has better physical ability a higher work rate, whilst Busquest has the skills, mentally, he reads and sees tbh game. I honestly think this is like comparing Patrick Viera to Iniesta. They may both play in the same position but both undeniably play different games. I’d say the only thing that weighs in Busquest favor without arguement is the fact he played at the top level for much longer, one may also argue it all comes down to circumstances, as he’s a la masia product, whilst casermiros spot at RM has always been filled by the likes of Xavi Alonso and Sami Khedira.
If futbol had a written exam, Busquets would be in the top percent. His greatest attribute is his mind.

The fact of the matter is people genuinely don’t like Busquets because he does his job. People don’t like him because all he does is get the ball back and give it to the attack. That’s been his job for 15+ years and he’s done it better than anybody. In some of the biggest matches in football history, Busquets has been there and done the same thing, over and over again. He’s a CDM. That’s what he is supposed to do. So what if he doesn’t score or assist? He stops goals from going in and plays the first part in a goal for Barcelona/Spain. He’s the best CDM ever, anyone trying to debate it is an idiot.

Casemiro on the other hand is a much more aggressive player and often goes for a tackle with no fear of what consequences he might face. Depends on the manager and their style of play I guess.

They had different playing style but both were world class defensive mids. Busquets was more of keeping the team structure but also finding those creative passes . He did his defensive duties as well. Casemiro was more of a destroying cannon. His other abilities were overshadowed by his defensive ability. He provided defensive cover very effectively and when opposition was going on the counter, he would stop it by any means. Would say overall career in terms of longevity, casemiro was better (busquets was reliable)but prime busquets during the pep guardiola Era was another level and it's so understated

Casemiro is a tank and a beast in CDM but Busquets is one cunning and clever player and it's like he was born to grace the CDM role.
I think that people muddy up overall career and a player’s ability. Busquets might’ve had an impressive long career but if you look at them both playing side to side, Casemiro is just so much more impressive. And Casemiro’s story isn’t complete yet. He can still win trophies at United, we saw how important he was to the club last season. He was arguably the best signing of the summer, after Haaland. Everyone thought United was out of their minds.
The more apt comparison to Busquets Is Toni Kross, not the same position but have played the same roles for their teams ie deep lying playmakers, although Kross has played higher on the pitch.

Even though it was a friendly game, I had the pleasure of watching busquets play with Barcelona. I don’t think I was more memorised in all my life of watching football. The way he elegantly flows and evade pressure, playing inch perfect passes, constantly scanning every millisecond. Truely grateful to watch him play

Busi works in a Barca setup just like Keano worked in Utd setup. Not all CDMs created equal. I feel like casemiro is the guy you need for counter attacking, play through wings football. Busi is the guy for possession and playing through center. Similarly Gattuso, Viera, Makelele, off late Kante all enabled their more ball playing compatriots. Barca setup needs Busi to have that ability to dictate as well and boy he has that. In summary even though the positions are same, there is no direct comparison. It's horses for the courses.
busquets has the problem of not being able to demonstrate much other than being a +1 (a good +1) on a team played by the DM much more than others, but while not doing much when you look at the end of it, specially when you are a DM that is not ever mentioned by its defensive contribution
