Good episode Jerry. Homebound Train is my favorite song on New Jersey. What strikes me most about this song is the dynamics between the guitar and bass, specially during the solo (during the 80s I thought Alec was the creator of those bass lines but..whatever!). Your episode has convinced me to acquire the Super Deluxe Box Set. Greeting from Perú.
Thank you for watching! Alec did have some bass recording on the albums, but not very much sadly. He was more of a touring musician. Hope you like the box set!
I first heard most these demo songs on a bootleg tape in 1997. I was blown away by how much I loved them and at the time kept thinking that certain songs that didn't make the album should have. Now the dust has settled over the years though and they aren't so 'new' to me anymore I kind of think the band just about made the right selections. The main album doesn't have the exact selections I would pick for myself but then I wouldn't have Bad Medicine in for myself! Maybe they could have found something a bit more universally liked than Homebound but personally that's now one of my favourite Jovi songs having been the one on the album that I originally didn't like - I always used to change the tape over after Blood on Blood and manage to therefore miss nearly all of it. But then that kept making the tape spool up (you're probably too young too know what the hell I'm on about), so I made the tape go through several mins of silence at the end of Blood on Blood and forced myself to listen to side 2 from the start without fast forwarding (which also risked messing up the tape) and after a while I began to love Homebound! I think Now & Forever would have been a great finishing song with the album then being called Now and Forever! Think that would have fit theme wise. I remember being disappointed when these songs weren't on the box set to improve it a bit (thought we could have gone without some of the alt versions on the box set). At least we got them on proper better than bootleg quality eventually though (2014). Ideally I'd have liked the box set to have had a disc for NJ outtakes, one for KTF one for TD and one for Crush, then maybe a mixed cd with other stuff on to keep the songs fairly chronological grouped by era. I have playlists on spotify that put all the songs from each album sessions in one place so all the KTF songs together for example including all the ones from the box set recorded for that album (shame I can't get Fields of Fire on Spotify as it wasn't on the box set, at least Save A Prayer is there now though).
I remember hearing these demos too and was blown away by does anybody and now and forever… still, don’t know how those songs didn’t make the album. The other choices seemed fair to be outtakes, but great songs! I know what you mean about the tapes. I used to listen to tapes in 2000!
Absolutely agree Jerry, they should release a super deluxe of ‘Slippery’. As far as outtakes, I like BJ version of ‘house of fire’ later recorded and released by Alice Cooper on his ‘ Thrash’ album. *edit* I wrote this comment before you mentioned it on the video
Let’s make it baby has grown on me, at least with the vocals. Songs I can’t stand are whole lot of leaving, temptation, and all hail the king. Wanted is almost on that list.

Haha no worries Paul!! I loved Jon’s raw (yet incredible) vocals on house of fire and Alice did a great final version of it!

Hi Jerry love that box set
Real gem!
Jerry, I got curious. What are the 3 BJ songs you don’t like, or can’t get into? You mentioned Let’s Make It Baby was one of them. Great episode!
