One of your most gorgeousssssssss rendition, troubadour Daniel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Both vocals and guitar play !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I adooooore !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reading about the Pocahontas perplex by Green and it brought me here because were studying ballads sung by colonials and natives alike, European invasions and Native American Studies, you have a beautful voice that fits so well, thank you for sharing
Masterful song and performance! I`m looking for a nylon string guitar with a narrower nut width. I like the mellower tone. I like how you play guitar, leaving negative space when needed. This is the recording sound quality I shoot for but how have here thee fore yet to obtain. Enjoyed this song so much!
Thanks Dan, I do love this guitar. I have probably mentioned before, but the sound is partly to do with having a decent condenser mic, but mostly to do with EQ, Compression and Reverb added in post.
@@DanielKellyFolkMusic Oh yes I remember. I compare your recordings when I mix my own to try and emulate it but havent been able to do it. Even doing a frequency scan. Maybe my mic is too close or its the hardwood floors dont know. I recently tried putting the mic overhead like you mentioned before but the guitar was too quiet. I`ll keep working on it. I use an AT2035 condenser mic and mix in sony vegas so I can do audio and video at the same time. I add a touch of reverb, compression and a little bass and treble sometimes. I recently found a free plug in called `Fresh Air` thats supposed to add high end without the harsh treble. Anyway I not only like your sound quality but your music is truly amazing! Both your covers and your originals!
@@DanDDirges I can’t post pictures here, but from the graph comparing our two mics on this site: recordinghacks.com/microphones/Rode/NT1-A (if you click on the graph you can compare to other mics) it looks like my mic has an almost 2dB higher response in the 100-200Hz space, so some EQ in this range might get a closer sound?
@@DanielKellyFolkMusic Thank you! I will try boosting the bass in the range you stated in the mastering stage after rolling off 20db in the mixing stage I never used to master but will try with the two I`m currently working on. Also I think I may be pushing the compressor to hard with quick attack and slow release. Some turn ok others soso. I recently found a great channel that explains the recording, mixing and mastering technique. You might be interested in. His channel name is, `In The Mix` - He explains things real clear and gets right to the point. In my mixed playlists of pro`s and youtubers your songs just stand out not only the sound but the songs and the way you perform them.
I'm not knowledgeable enough about early American history to know, but I suspect there would have been romance (reciprocated or forced) between the invaders and locals. The ballads they already knew could of course influenced their story telling.

An excellent rendition of this ballad, Daniel. And yes, it does seem very close to "Fair Flower of Northumberland". Thanks for the link to my version.
You have a fantastic voice - those low notes!!!! Super!!
Thanks for listening An! 🙂
great deep rich voice love it.
Thanks for listening Felicity!

I don't recall hearing any native American songs of the colonial era (apart from the fetishized white material). Thanks for listening!

Any thoughts to the belief that the story of Pocahontas was literally ripped from this ballad?
