Very informative video Dr. Asaad! I have this question that if you have done, say 2 years of research in the US on J1 visa so after that do you need to go back to your home country for 2 years before being eligible for visa for residency?
And secondly, what approach will you recommend to get a research fellowship position as an IMG?
You can do clinical J1 after research J1 without the need to go back to your home country

Thanks for the video! It answered so many questions I had, one of those was about the J1 visa for research, since I guess you can't apply to The Match after you are done with your research year if you have to go back to your country for 2 years. I always wondered how people did it.
Do you happen to know where I can get a list of countries that wouldn't require the 2 years from the J1 after research?
I didn't understand this part, so if you do a yr of research you can't apply to the match the year after it?
@@thehandlez If you do research on J1 you can't as far as I know, because you have to go back to your homecountry for 2 years and can't go to the US for those 2 years.
But he said that some countries have an exception to those 2 years. I would like to know which countries those are.

@@pabloneruda9890 Yes there is. All IMGs who are on J1 research continue with J1 clinical (sponsored by ECFMG) without going back to their countries for 2 years. The 2-year requirement is postponed in these situations.

You generally can't as J1 has specific requirements.

But I wish you to reply in detail please... Because i have just reed an experience of an Egyptian doctor and he say that every university determines a certain amount of money having in your bank account to accept you in a research position.
For example He said that mayo clinic where he do research require at least 29000 dollars in a Bank account to accept him in an unpaid research position?

Hi dear dr.Malkeasaad,I am dr. Naseem shah,got an interview from MAYO CLINIC for research in Neurosurgery and I am a bit curious about the expenses of living in Rochester can you please send me your email or any other way to contact you? Like how much will it cost living in Rochester for a month?
It is very affordable. Between 900-2000 a month depending on how fancy you want to live
