Wow this worked!! After unsuccessfully trying to remove the stripped crank with a 3-jaw and then with a 2-jaw gear puller I was about to give up. I then saw your video and instead of using an allen key between floorboards as you did, i made a small modification. I have used the inner piston of my original threaded crank pulling tool (the inner part which normally pushes against the bottom bracket at the centre of the crank arm). I Placed the piston at the centre of the crank arm, leaned my bike flat on it on my garage concrete floor, used my rubber hammer and wacked the pedal arm (right hand side) as hard as I could about 5 times - it came off! Unbelievable! Thank you so much
i also ever have same problem, what i do is to loosen the crank bolt about 4 full turn and ride it hard until i can see it moving out slightly, then i use jaw puller to finish the job, this method i think is more gentle for the BB and frame, i did that because the jaw puller is not work for the first attempt in my case it's most probably the crankarm bolt installed too tightly in the factory
The puller stripped the threads. Looks like you had the adapter too wide pushing on the arm and not the axle. You can clearly see the arm is damaged because of user error with a puller.
Its also a possibility that they didn't completely tighten the puller in, it is critical to use a crescent wrench to firmly tighten down the crank puller in the crank, if you just do it hand tight, then even the slightest of a stuck crank will just result in you ripping out the threads like is shown here
The head on the crank puller you used is too large, you can see where it was driving into the edges of the square hole in the crank. You need a square taper crank puller, or the park tool with a smaller drive disc.
Oh my !!!!! I tried with a puller and couldn't pull it out. With this method, it worked. Crankarm has no serious damage other than some marks. I now can put my Bafang BBS02.
@@rafaelfresnosa8942 Nop not on bike stand you can't put pressure on pedal while peddling on bike stand you have to ride until you feel it's coming off after that if you have striking screwdriver use hammer it will come off
Ok I am confused. I have SRAM X7 on a Specialized Fuse I took the crack bolts out of both sides and I looks identical to this but I have no idea how to get the crank out. Am I supposed to use pullers? It’s creaking like crazy and driving me nuts! Help!
Now how do you fix the threads of the crank arm so that you don't have to throw it away? I'm going to try doing thing with a ratchet extension and a rubber mallet.
I used an angle grinder, taking care not to grind too much of the spline. I cut straight across, and diagonally up from under the arm, around the 3 accessible sides. Your way sounds easier for those who can prop their hex wrench.
If you didn't cook the threads completely and just ruined the first few to where the puller won't bite and spins out. You might be able to grease the shit out of them with a ton of grease to get past them, turning the puller with a adjustable spanner. Used to do it all the time to people who hardly screwed the puller in and pulled out a few threads.
Take a cold chisel and place it between the crank arm and bb shell. Whack the chisel with a hammer and it's off. This works with type 2 spindles where nobody has the right tool anymore.
You need to remove the tip of the crank remover tool and try again. You have obviously tried removing the crank arm without removing the tip which is obviously by the marks on the internal thread of the arm has just pressed them off
No easier way is you put the paddle then you ride around and put your weight the the paddle with no crank arm bolt on take it off it should me easy I've don't that a couple of times And it work well
Vinh Do - you slow down and check (wiggle pedal with your foot, if it moves then coming loose) to avoid damage. If you just ride like crazy until it falls off then maybe they will be some damage to crank and yourself, but on square taper you can get away with quite a lot of damage I would think.
Imagine just being able to smack that crank arm off with a rubber mallet. Stuffing that Allen key in the end of the threaded area of that spindle is going to mess the threads up even more. Take it to a shop if you don’t know what you are doing. It’s clear you were not using the crank puller correctly by the marks you left. You shouldn’t recommend people be doing stuff like this. It’s bad advise even if you were able to get the am off.
This just happened to me this weekend I used a pickle fork that would be used for removing a steering knuckle on a car one good wack sent it flying but least I got it off now that I know how it works I simply could of removed the the other sides thread lock and punched it out the other side
I hate those old square bottom brackets. I had so many problems with crank arms coming loose. Good thing we're two generations past those and the current generation has been around about 20 years. Good riddance to bad design.

Paul Rogers glad it is helpful to you. #rideon
how to hold the tool still when you hammering the carnk arm?
Thanks, I’m about to try this as battling with the same issue atm!
What also works is to ride the bike until the cranks fall off by themselves. If one is staying on, use this method. Easier on your tools!
This is an INSPIRED idea... I'm gonna try it myself....man,you are one clever dude. Huge thanks!
ONLY THING THAT WORKED OUT OF THOUSANDS OF TUTORIALS AND THE OUMERS CRANK PULLER RETURNING THE TRASH AND THANKING YOU!😊
Thanks!! I was skeptical but this worked like a champ for me!
Wow thanks bro, it actually worked!

Godbless tutorials like these

Used the octatlink adapter, can see the round mark it left on the crank.

Ça a marcher pour moi
Merci beaucoup 😊 ❤
Mate this totally worked.... Legend
Thanks for your video I would have never figured out how to take the crank off my 29 inch beach cruiser
Cruz Villanueva anytime, np! #rideon
Saved me from a trip to the bike shop that would probably cost 40€. Thanks man 👍
Thank you very much bro! You are the best in the world!!! ❤❤❤Very helpful video!!!
Amazing. Furst thought was holy hell it actually worked. Will use this in the future for sure

Worked great. Thanks for the idea.
Megacatswhiskers Awesome, np! #rideon
freakin awesome bro thanks. this is what youtube shorts are for
Thank you so much! When all the hope was lost... Boom and it's off!
Bearing jaw puller will work with those.
I had use a cut off wheel to get mine off. The crank removal tool stripped the threads out. This was one the drive side.
Thank you so much
I didn’t have anywhere to rest the hex tench so I put it in my bench vice and it worked. I didn’t think it would work but it did so thanks
Nice work , I used a tie rod / ball joint remover . Cheers 🇨🇦
Guys just do one thing remove the bolt and ride your cycle it will come off easily i did it and it worked
can you do it on a bike stand instead of cycling? how many times do you have to pedal?
@@rafaelfresnosa8942 Nop not on bike stand you can't put pressure on pedal while peddling on bike stand you have to ride until you feel it's coming off after that if you have striking screwdriver use hammer it will come off
Gunkaan kunci tracker, sangat mudah membukanya jika lengkap alat2 kerja
My centre bolt is rounded and my puller roumded the exterior so idk what to do
Im havong the same problem on the chain ring side. Thanks for sharing.
How do I get a lock nut off that is rusted onto the frame
Is it a self extracting crank arm?
Thanks so much
Thanks, worked a charm

very effective🔥🔥👏👏👏
Is the spindle damaged at all by doing this? Is the crankarm reusable?
You should use a 8mm or 10mm socket insted of the allen key. And then use a 3 jaw puller.
Now how do you fix the threads of the crank arm so that you don't have to throw it away? I'm going to try doing thing with a ratchet extension and a rubber mallet.
Thank you so MUCH. That worked 💪 🎉😅
THANK YOU

Thank you so SO much for this!
how do I fix my mountain bike crank arm, it detached from my bike
Thank you bro it work❤
Thanks man it worked
Well i should use a rubber mallet
This worked for me

💡That other press type should do the trick, the type used to remove windshield wipers, it grabs it’s hooks behind the pedal.
Perfect sir! Thank you
You were lucky i had one today had to use a puller with 3 legs plus heat
Take a cold chisel and place it between the crank arm and bb shell. Whack the chisel with a hammer and it's off. This works with type 2 spindles where nobody has the right tool anymore.
wow! that is another way.
Jesus Christ! Lol
Thanks❤
Heat with plumbers torch, comes rite off with three packs of a hammer
well done
PP
nice
It will be better if you demonstrate the whole process instead of just talking. Anyway thanks.
A pulley puller could help in this situation as well.
You need to remove the tip of the crank remover tool and try again. You have obviously tried removing the crank arm without removing the tip which is obviously by the marks on the internal thread of the arm has just pressed them off
Hell yeah! Worked! Perfect, might damage your crank arm or rotor, but I don't care, I am getting an upgrade
Don't know why you would want to reuse a crank arm with cooked threads anyway. In that case, just leave it on.
Yow bro your a life saver thank you
A CYCLUS crank arm repair kit would fix this with no problems at all.
How can you let your threads get that bag in the first place unless this was a second hand bike that I can understand
Thanks ma man !
Thanks so much it worked
Leo Mahserelli np, glad it works for you. #rideon
Gear puller
How did u slam it?
This will damage/bend aluminum of crankarm.
Thanks 🎉 bike fiked
hammer your tool in like bob the builder
Brilliant idea. Thanks for sharing mate
Saviour!!
Bro….. there’s a tool for this. It’s called a “crank puller”
Did you try to
Be fucking careful next time
it really works?:D ??
live life Get out of here.
This is what you need to get to get to your goddamn point
yep I got two dodgy garbage bikes and both cranks are seized tight.. great 😂
Your crank arm is still attached, sir.
You need a crank puller it cost like 13 dollars
Better than what I would’ve done which is cut into the arm and try to split it with a hammer and chisel.
Damage your BB crank bolt threads?
It won't damage the threads as long as you use a big enough Allen key
Such a genius do you work for NASA???
U are a god I just did it thanks
Now u will need a new bottom bracket
If it doesn't budge, HAMMER TIME!
No easier way is you put the paddle then you ride around and put your weight the the paddle with no crank arm bolt on take it off it should me easy I've don't that a couple of times And it work well
GAZALIFEELTHERACE 29 agreed done this years ago, you just ride it for a bit and it will come loose.
Does it ruin the crank arm for future use? I read on forums saying it rounds out the joints
Vinh Do - you slow down and check (wiggle pedal with your foot, if it moves then coming loose) to avoid damage. If you just ride like crazy until it falls off then maybe they will be some damage to crank and yourself, but on square taper you can get away with quite a lot of damage I would think.
I did it with some wd40 too lubricate it then wiggle it back and forth and it's should come of
A long bolt will also do it 👍
A nother whey is a slej hamer
It would be nice if you demonstrated the method! This site is called TH-cam. You should have uploaded to vocal tube.
I broke my wrench😂

that's what happened to me
It could damage thread

Good lesson for idiots trying to damage their bikes 🤦♂️

What? You didn't show shit!
If this is better than what you can come up with on your own you have no business working on anything mechanical
