In early 2023, it was announced that the Nashville & Eastern's Dash 8 roster would be repainted into the RJ Corman paint scheme... effectively ending the railroads unique and colorful history of locomotives.
Fast forward to the final weeks of the year, and the “red wave” is surging through the railroad… as more and more Dash 8’s went under for repainting.
In this special Rail Tennessee production, we'll document the early days of the Nashville & Eastern’s new appearance, capturing the railroads iconic Dash 8's in their fresh new coats of red paint!

Rather disappointing to find some random, foreign company decided to copyright 0:04-0:39 of my video.. claiming it as their own (when it’s VERY clearly not). Hopefully this issue will resolve itself quickly, but if it doesn’t, this video be reuploaded again…

The new paint scheme looks pretty good on the wide cabs, but the standard cab green bean is a true classic

I grew up watching the L&N railroad run through my back yard and watched a young man with a dump truck and a case 580 backhoe work on the crossings and different jobs for the railroad he was a one man show worked hard his name was Rick Corman and his hard work paid off looking at your video brings back a lot of memories thanks for sharing such good quality videos
So that’s who RJ Corman is, huh? I honestly thought that he was a relative of Warren Buffet, like a grandson or something, and that Warren given him some railroad as part of his trust fund. I’m glad I was wrong about that, and that RJ Corman is, in fact, someone who has put some real time and labor into railroading with the L& N as you pointed out. So, good on him
I grew up to Chessie System rolling through my back yard. I can remember being fascinated with the combination of the Chessie, B & O, C & O, and other colors combined with the undeniably fierce rumble of diesel power, as well as the loud horn blasts at the nearby crossing, the followed by the colorful cabooses with the men inside waving as they passed by… all of that at a very early age not long after my birth in 1978. Like, just months old I can remember. And it’s always stuck with me
I’m living in that same house now since my mother passed away in 2020. Today, it’s just not what it once was. Nothing but CSX every single time. Although, a couple of things that make it interesting is the addition of DPUs, mostly at mid train. That’s something that Chessie System, nor early CSX ever did with trains on this particular line.
Every once in a while they’ll run large 250 car unit coal trains, which are actually just 2 trains combined as 1. Those often have 3 u it’s in the lead and 3 more at mid train. Recently, I happened to be out walking my dog and cat when I heard a train approaching in the distance. So I walked down the hill and waited trackside, and to my surprise the 1976 Conrail heritage unit was in the lead,
But even with it… CSX just HAD to leave their mark on the nose end

As much as I'm sure some are disappointed to see the N&E livery fade away, I really like the new look! Awesome video
There are scads of train videos on the Tube but only a few are of this quality. Well filmed, edited and narrated. @DistantSignal would be proud.
The livery on 2620 and 2596 looks really good.

You may have not known this as you were getting that shot at MM 9, but to your right is what once was the NC&StL's Lebanon branch, complete with the piers still in the Stones River near the NERR bridge. Chandler Road from Old Hickory Blvd. through Mount Juliet is also a remnant of that branch line.

That would be the Knoxville and Holston River RR. The passenger train is called the Three Rivers Rambler. Both fun to watch in an urban area along the Tennessee River.

I'm sick to death of seeing Orange everything out here on the West Coast. If it isn't the tragedy that is BNSF it's Gennesee and Wyoming. Orange and more orange. I'd gladly enjoy the red and silver of RJC locomotives.

I/m surprised to see the locomotives have boogies with two axix instead of three! Three axix gives more wear and tear to the tracks as far as I'm informed. This is a step forwards in maintenance work and expenses!

Hey Rail Tennessee, odd request but here goes. I’m a native nashvillian and I have an interest in abandoned railroads. There’s one in particular in my hometown of donelson that was the old Nashville, Chattanooga, and at Louis line that was abandoned in the 1930s. You can still see where the track was on the map and there’s a couple of old artifacts still standing to this day namely an old bridge and a support for a bridge over the stones river. I didn’t know if you could make a video about that. I’d be very interested.

The Old Nasheville And Chattonooga and St Louis Railroad if I am correct and then the Tennessee Central Railway and then the Nasheville and Eastern RR from the early 80's
It's too bad there isn't a passenger rail service that runs from Pulaski, Culleoka (Lewisburg park n' ride location), Columbia, GM/Saturn Mfg Plant, Spring Hill, Franklin, Brentwood, and Nashville. The biggest amount of traffic on I-65 / US31/ US431 mornings and afternoons are coming from these areas. The Tri-Star WeGo passenger rail service could run a 10-car unit train a couple times every weekday in each direction moving many of these people off the roads between Pulaski and Nashville and onto the rails just as they do from Lebanon to Nashville. Except for Lewisburg on this line, the rail line already exists and runs right through the middle of all these towns and the GM plant. So I don't understand why TN won't get the locomotives and passenger cars, build some platform stations along the route and get the service operational because it is severely needed.
R J Corman Company is gradually buying up short lines these days one in South Carolina I recall and one of in the state of North Carolina I want to say the Winston Salem Southern and probably the South Central Central possibly in N and S Carolina in Southeastern part of North Carolina!
Do you have any plans to chase the Ashland city job? I drive around that part of Nashville 5 days a week but very rarely see them in action anywhere other than the CSX Bruceton interchange.
Well, that sucks. I wonder what this will mean for the museum and their restoration of 576, or their excursions. Will it run at all? I mean, since RJ died they haven't run their own steam locomotive, "Old Smokey".
The passenger excursions are still running, there has been progress reports on 576 but its restoration will probably finish later than said.

They pay us just fine...I'm glad they care about their image rather than just patching class I paint schemes.

We'd much rather see RJ Coleman red and silver over the ugly G&W orange and black, let's be honest here about that. It's not as nice as the N&E livery but it does look like a recolored Southern Railway livery which I'm all for.
I’m only unhappy about the former BNSF Dash 8’s being repainted, other than that I very much agree.
