Love the Q&A's! At some point can you talk about the hackberry as a bonsai? You have answered my questions on them before but I would love to see a a series or q&a over them. That is one tree I never see done and never see on any of the other channels I watch. Either way thanks for what you do and the information!
I will do hackberry...it is a wonderful bonsai material, very popular in Taiwan for sure, probably China. Grows fast, nice leaves reuces like elm. That is my anchor landscaping tree in my garden...which is also on UC Davis campus.
Never give up on a tree. My pomegranate went dormant from October to August the following year. Branches were alive. Then one August afternoon it woke up for 2 months. Slept again and woke up in March and grew all summer. Never give up is right.
Another good video . . . I like the Q&A. One point: cutting branches is much easier for a bonsaist who keeps many bonsai. If you make a poor decision, so what! Those who keep one or two trees are more anxious about a decision that results in a setback and requires months or years to address. I have had many trees but still sometimes stew over decisions for days or longer before I make the cut.
4:21 u read that question wrong by accident. To the person who has that problem depending where u live i dont see y u would defoliate a chinese elm in the winter the leafs usually fall off but ok even if u did i dont see why u would have no leafs mid summer. It may have got hit by frost and damaged the roots or been overwatered during the winter if in a small pot. Its still green so u should be ok u just may have to keep waiting and try not to overwater cause the tree has no leafs and keep it in the sun. The question is do u see buds on the tree at all? Elms are strong but tough winters can take a toll on the roots. If all else fails u may have to cut back heavily and start over when it decides to push growth
Thanks for your videos, they are very educational and I am learning a lot about Bonsais. I do have a few potential future Bonsais that I keep in normal pots and some of them in the ground. While they keep growing with a thicker trunk, I would like to make sure that the roots are also growing homogeneously surrounding the trunk and become fibrous roots. What do you recommend me to do to accomplish this? Thank you.
Hi Milton, I have made two red maple bonsai. Live in Pennsylvania USA. Plan to make a cold box to overwinter them. Do you have any tips or suggestions for overwintering success? There will be ventilation and I plan to use pea gravel around the base of the pots. Thak you
I have no first hand experience in winterizing...Based logic. the tree can stand the cold, but the rootball, being in a shallow pot will be damagedf by frosting....Therefore bury the bonsai so the rootball does not free...into the ground, or pile soil and leave mold over it. Make sense? Or keep the bonsai in the garage...and expose evergren tree in the sune during warmer days. Have fun!
I have tried to make bonsai before, but i didn't have time, and trees kept dying. I want to get back into it. I have 2 saplings growing in woods behind my house. 1 eastern white pine and 1 maple, amongst others. Should i leave them in the ground and start training them or try to pot them?
no wrong cuts? watch me chop off my main trunk to an inverted taper water sprout that also overlaps some other waterspouts and has a growing scale infestation 😆
Thanks for the video.

As a novice with only 1 tree I always appreciate the advise and encouragement. Thank you!
Great!
You are welcome
As a new Bonsai enthusiast in the UK, thank you for your time and knowledge 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Budding out in August is kinda late.
I love Irish Moss. Not in the bonsai pot, instead of a lawn. No mowing. Tiny white flowers. Tightly knit in the ground.
Yes...just don't let it get into your bonsai...the problem in bonsai is it gets lumpy.
That is the first thing I do. Hit the like button. Always great information
Hit more! And tell a friend...thanks!
🙂
Nice video thanks Milton keep up the good work
Will do my best. Stay tune and tell a friend.
Thank you, Mr. Chang, for your kind words. I appreciate your advice.
Welcome!

Perfect timing!

Glad you like them!
Your tree might not look good young, but the person care, it grows into a Swan. A cool tree of one's creation.
Thanks!

We agree violently!
Thanks as always, Milton! I appreciate all your videos! Once I got more questions I'll be sure to bug you. xD
So long as you don;t mind my answer will be brief...running out of time.

Put good soil around the tree, and water frequently. Growth rate is all dependent on water and fertilizer.
Can you make a video on House Fried Rice?
Yes I can...I am a very good cook. But it would be off subject for the channel.
