Kaz, well presented nuts ‘n bolts of CLA. Looking forward to the next in the series. Will you be doing one with a focus on setting up a good biosecurity programs for the new sheep farmer? Thank you.

Thanks Harry. I’ve got one in the back catalogue about quarantine treatments but that is only part of the story.

Thank you for this. At shearing yesterday, the 1st contender had an abdomen abcsess. The shearer then spread it throughout the rest of the flock and when we vaccinated the new, orphan, stock-replenishing lambs, they too were herded in a disease-spreading way. So depressing.

Now just because it’s an abscess doesn’t necessarily mean it’s CLA! Be worth talking to your vet about some diagnostics.

@@farmvetfilms Dear Kaz, how kind you are to reply! Thank you. After listening to your video here, i took your advice: got the vet out to test. (Eliza and blot) She was a bit flummoxed. There was loads of blood still and it was now Monday (shearing was last Saturday). WAY too much blood for a swab. She took a blood sample instead and was impressed that i knew it might not read positive/negative. That was thanks to you. She gave a local anaesthetic and sewed the hole up, (with what looked like a crochet needle!) presumably "nicked" by the shearer. I wonder what would cause a swollen lymph if not CLA? She rang today to see how my dear 9 year old (pet) ewe is doing and explained about getting the vaccine in from abroad, esp. the high costs: £400 as doses must be repeated. My sheep just keep the grass down on my small smallholding but they are precious to me. I think i would go ahead rather than see all 10 sheep slowly decline. Will report back when the results arrive. Thank you so much.

Interesting, I got a ⭐️and learned a lot.. I bought in a ram, quarantined, then subsequently failed to thrive and developed lymph abscesses. It wasn’t CLA thankfully. I must sound paranoid about disease, but I preferred winter shearing for my closed flock as it was less likely for the shearer to bring in disease, but I was only thinking in terms of scab. We didn’t have this disease before freedom of movement with Europe.

Great video, Buddy! I'm going to get some sheep this year for the first time ever (I keep only Clydesdale horses and cattle). I'll be needing to consult these technical videos about sheep!

Consult away! But talk to your vet as well.
What sort of sheep are you thinking?

@@farmvetfilms Thank you. I'm thinking of some Lleyn sheep, for no other reason than those are the ones I find the nicest-looking! I might start with 3 ewes and see what happens!

Great video again, it's obvious a lot of work goes into them. Keep them coming, looking forward to the next.

He is a naturally good teacher because he is a gifted communicator. ( The best academics at uni were all great communicators.) I found i had remembered much and automatically took the advice, even though i was fed up, concuding we MUST have CLA. We are lucky indeed to have this channel. Far too little is known which is just silly, in a day and age like this

Very informative video once again. Is the AHDB manual available for purchase in the United States, perhaps on Amazon? It sounds like a very useful resource. Thanks again for great information
