    You really are the go to man when it comes to cleaning the bike Stuart. I came back to the bike after 37yrs in Nov 2017. I bought an RT and winterised it according to your advice. Its been cleaned monthly and after 2000 winter miles looks great. Thanks so much for your knowledge so freely shared.

    I used Tetroseal in September, I put the aerosol can in hot tap water for 20 mins, though I struggled spraying it on the bike after a couple of bursts, the can nozzle seemed to get very clogged up. I’ll give the bike a wipe down with the white spirit next week as apparently it’s due to snow again on Sunday 🙈. Love the double TT spray, used it all winter after each wash.

    • @stuartfillingham
      @stuartfillingham  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Richard, yes it can be a little prone to clogging, they are a universal spray cap and i save the nozzles from any other aerosols i use up during the year. that way i always have a few spares! thanks for watching sir!

    Enjoyed your latest which proved to me that living in a warmer clime with no snow, minimum rain and no salt on the roads makes detailing far less fiddly. I have to research some of those Muc-Off products which look good with your use.

    I tend to follow much the same approach throughout the year. In the winter, I wash the bike down after every ride. I've been using ACF50. I didn't realise that waxoil was still available, so might give that a go next winter. I probably don't get the same problems mentioned with ACF50 because I am regularly washing and reapplying anyway. Using GT85 is something I hadn't thought of, so I'm using a mix of your approach and my own, which has always kept the bike in good condition so far.

    Amazing Stuart, looks immaculate. So glad we don't have salted roads down here but it does mean we don't bother protecting our machines in the same way, just wash it as needed. So perhaps we don't get quite so down and personal with them as often as you do. Oh and finally a journalist who knows the correct expression and doesn't say "the proof is in the pudding" I hate that!

    Hey Stuart, as you know I was waiting for this one (thanks for the mention of the daily 50 mile commute). I'll send some 'before' and 'after' de-winterisering pics to show how the Waxoil / TT treatment works on a T120 ridden all through winter (I believe this method was devised by your French cousin 'Full De-Fillingham?). Superb video sir and the bike looks gorgeous, especially with the tail-tidy and the new pipes. Thankyou again for a great bit of filming sir.

    • @stuartfillingham
      @stuartfillingham  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your very welcome Paul i will be interested to see how the bike has fared under such extreme use! ah actually he's not French he's Canadian! he devised this system for his 100 miles per day commute through Alaska on his modified tiger cub, with skis fitted instead of the front wheel, during the 1960s, an invention which of course he later developed into the skidoo! Thank you for watching sir a pleasure as always!

    Looks very good! Thanks for the video. I really cannot understand people are so primitive and without self discipline that they begin hating on the ground what just one guy says based on his experience and experiments. But, many are the places that I have left voluntarily when I find such behaviour. Maybe wrong but I think no one wants to waste time on useless discource (well, maybe some have their life's calling there!).

    Another great video Stuart! Why did Haynes switch to 'paperback' instead of the 'hardback' ? Cost I guess, seems really daft to me, with the old hard back it lay flat, with no fear of damaging the spine, doubt you could even do that with the paperback version.

    I was unable to purchase online those de-winterizing products here in the States so when the time came, I just tarped my T120 up and I'm hoping for the best when I uncover her, and hopefully soon! Before this winter though, I'm going to try and and find a way to order the products you use. Do you think one winter under a tarp without wax oil and whatnot is going to cause noticeable damage? I did make sure to clean and wax her real well before I put the cover on. Thanks always for another extremely informative video!

    • @stuartfillingham
      @stuartfillingham  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Zach, thats a difficult question to answer. but i will keep my fingers crossed for you! next year if your unable to get the products i use, just give the bike a good coat of good quality maintenance spray, and check the bike regularly! Thanks for watching!

    I think it's fair to say, the bike is a testament to the effectiveness of your regime.
    (No where to hide under high definition!)
    Confession time.
    I use ACF 50.
    Mainly, oh ok, completely, because I got a load given to me, so it didn't cost me a penny.
    Happy with it?
    Yep, why not specially at the price I got it for.......
    I do think it's sad you got grief over your choice of products.
    As I've said before, you put the information out, it's up to the individual to make of it what they will, we're all grown ups.
    The world seems to be full of people who've convinced themselves they have the 'one true way' and dissent must be crushed!

    • @stuartfillingham
      @stuartfillingham  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Chris, of course people can use whatever they like its their bike and their money! i just offer an alternative that is tried and trusted isn't, surrounded by hype and nonsense and gives in my opinion the best results!
      I suppose if your throwing £30 plus pounds a year on a product that makes a mess of everything, constantly has to be reapplied, and the rust worm still rears its ugly head your going to be a bit miffed when some one says you can do it easier for a fraction of the cost!
      Im a yorkshireman i can take it!

      @chrisbolton2500 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never doubted your resilience, I've met enough Yorkshiremen to know better.........just seems a shame people cut up ugly when you're just trying to help.

    Stuart, great video. Question, will fine particles of dirt stick to the winterizing wax and possibly leave scratches on the chrome and paint when you are removing it? Thanks, Hal

    • @stuartfillingham
      @stuartfillingham  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never encountered it, but then i do hose the dirt off frequently. when you use the whit spirit it does take on an oily quality which perhaps lubricates it and minimises scratching!

  • @Gaius0
    @Gaius0 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another question. After de-winterising the bike, do you still recommend using Double TT for the engine, radiator & lower frame, or do you move to using something like GT85?
    I believe in your waxing, detailing & protecting video you recommended GT85 for the summer months as it is a light machine oil. Double TT is described as a "general purpose light duty lubricant", so if the criteria is to use a light oil for the summer months, would Double TT qualify as well? I'm just wondering if there's a reason for switching products seasonally.

    • @stuartfillingham
      @stuartfillingham  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jorge, here in the UK GT85 can at times be bought very cheaply under £2.00 a can, and it does a brilliant job during the summer months. so i swap over because im a skin flint! But it is just a little too light to give adequate protection in the winter, Either product is fine for summer use.

    • @Gaius0
      @Gaius0 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      stuart fillingham Makes sense. Thanks Stuart!
      EDIT: Actually, I was re-watching your video and just noticed towards the end you specifically mention they can be used interchangeably. I don't know how I missed it on my first viewing. I hope the eye roll when you got the question you'd already answered, in the video where you'd answered it, didn't cause any permanent optic nerve damage!
      I'll try to pay more attention going forward. Thanks again!

  • @Gaius0
    @Gaius0 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey Stuart. Just curious. Are you planning on replacing your tank badges with the 4-bar badge, or are you not a fan of those? For some reason I thought that's one of the first things you'd want to change on your bike as you are otherwise so much into the retro look. Or maybe you have other plans?

    • @stuartfillingham
      @stuartfillingham  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jorge! Thats spooky! i was just putting my bike away after a ride and was just thinking that i should really get around to changing the tank badge for the 4 bar one! ive been meaning to do it since i got the bike but just never got around to it. but i will, one day!

    • @paullee6663
      @paullee6663 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Back in the day, I think they used to wait a few years to see how many units were sold, I think there was even a number that had to be made/sold, I cannot remember how many units it was, but if the potential wasn't there to sell enough books, they didn't produce it Makes sense really. Obviously, something like a Ford Fiesta was a 'guaranteed' seller so they would produce books earlier.

    • @markmasztal2253
      @markmasztal2253 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I quite Urals actually! nearly bought one when they were being imported by NEVAL back in the day, But they are crude! doubt very much they would pass emissions regs anywhere these days. Its a shame they haven't updated them a little, Im sure they would sell quite well in the current market!
