11.1 THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FLEX AND STATIC MACHINES Apart from Flex samples being loaded to the RAM memory of the Octatrack MKII and Static samples streamed from the Compact Flash card, a few other differences between the two machine types exist. The track LFOs can not modulate the STRT parameter of a Static machine. The crossfader can, but if the modulation is too fast the Static machine will not be able to update the start point position correctly, re- sulting in the sample not being played. Once the Static machine catches up the sample will be played back from the correct start position. Parameter locking the STRT parameter will however make the sample play back exactly according to the locked position. Flex samples do not experience these limitations and will always play back from the correct position no matter how heavily modulated the STRT parameter is.
is it weird that I like setting up my project every time? I worry that if I don't I'll forget where all the stuff in, kind of like when you have a browser remember your password and you forget it over time.
had the same thought.. but you have all the setup behaviour probably for more than a lifetime pressed into your brain :) its way faster with template.. i wished the octatrack were a quick jam machine, which it is once set up. There is nothing more annoying than taking it out to a jam and scrolling menus. Shit needs to be quick..

Seems like you are the best person to ask - do you have a process for pitching a sample exactly for use with Octatrack in the scale mode? How would you make a melodic track with a sampled pitched not or a single cycle waveform?

I have an OT that is criminally underused and under-understood (?), but it's a mk1. The differences between the 1 and 2 aren't particularly deep are they? IE is there any particular tips for transcribing your videos onto the mk1, or is it 99% the same?
Do you think the Octatrack would be useful for a singer/songwriter type? Also, (this may be obvious)where can I find your music? Thanks man, I don’t have an octatrack but I like doing things with you talking in the background. ❤️
Depends man. But really if your just wanting a singer songwriter setup. Get a zoom multitrack or a handheld tascam dr-44 it’s a field recorder that can flash into a 4 track recorder and mixer with a few effects.
I could see this. I’m pretty good at logic and ableton, I just really find them boring ahahha. Looking for some excitement you know! I tried MPC but that software is a mess.
You missed the most important thing to do with an Octatrack template SET THE SAMPLE RATE TO 24bit because it defaults to 16bit which sound horrid, it its lo-fi but not in a nice way took me ages to workout why the Octatrack sounded so shit because i thought that setting it to 24bit would make it always 24bit until i found out that EVERY setting on the octa is project based
template in octatrack: not more not less as a project, like a project in any.- The word template will say more as it is: its nothing. So as nothing as it is, in the octatrack manaual there is 'no find' under search 'template'.

It’s fun for making beats to sing on, would be abysmal for tracking vocals or guitar. Ableton is your best bet in that regard.
