    17:42 I use studio mode for reverb. If you turn it on, you will have a split volume control for each channel. The level knob controls the volume to the master and CUE + level knob controls the volume to the cue out outputs. Cue out to external reverb FX and back into input AB. Open up the direct in in the mixer. Like a studio mixer with aux channel.
    I can individually set the amount of reverb for each channel. This freed up the second FX slot for me! No deciding between reverb and delay.
    Thanks for your vids, always a pleasure.

    A little tip from the manual; the octatrack looks for bpm in the filename of your sample. Handy if youre having trouble setting loop bpms in the menu

    Hi, I'm that internet pedant you ordered!? I actually use that launch quantize feature you hate! I'll now describe my use case because I am physically unable not to do so after watching this!
    OK SO basically, I have this file which is 64 1-bar percussion loops, concatenated together into one long 120bpm, 64-bar wav file. And it has a slice grid applied so each loop is a single slice. During live sets, I can just manually trigger a new percussion loop whenever using my sloppy garbage timing and the new loop will enter right on beat.
    I could also just have a trig in step 1 of my pattern, you say? That is true, and for some reason that's not how I do it live. I don't know.

    • @unic0de-yvr
      @unic0de-yvr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've also done a slightly more total-madman thing where there are entire songs, DJ-style, concatenated together one-after-another into a 64-song file, with one slice per song. Launch quantize is also handy for triggering those if I want to do an octatrack DJ set.

  • @logickal
    @logickal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I know you don't want to know, but the Cue Cfg basically toggles the cue outputs into behaving like a DJ mix style `cue` system (an independent set of outputs meant to be listened to separately for the mains to get the 'next thing' ready to drop in your performance) vs being a separate assignable output pair in `studio` mode. So, you could take your kick drum and assign it to the cue output panned hard left and then run it into an interface or mixing desk to have it on its own separate track.

    • @GiriGagan
      @GiriGagan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The "Cue CFG Studio" settings turns the Cue Outputs into a second stereo output pair that has it's own volume control, as opposed to the normal setting which I believe bypasses the main volume output when engaged. It's useful if you're trying to record the OT into a DAW and are tired of doing tracks a single stereo pair at a time and want to send a second track, or group of tracks, to those outputs. [Cue] + [Level Knob] changes the output volume for the Cued pair.
    Another useful setting in the Personalize menu is "Cue Mutes Master" which mutes cued tracks from the master output, and can essentially create an effects loop if you run the cue outs through effects and then back into either the A/B or C/D inputs (may need to turn the direct monitoring of those inputs up in the mixer page). Not to induce GAS, but the ZOIA from Empress is an amazing companion for this since you can build any effect pedal chain in it and it can receive MIDI CC so you can change patches on it from the OT to match the part or song your playing, that way you only need one effects pedal for infinite pedal board setups.

    Octatracks 8 Chambers:
    - Static Machines, why Elektron?
    - Pick Up Machines, Overdub
    - Freeze Delay
    - LFOs
    - Trigger, Locks, Trigless shut up duh
    - Parts?!
    - Arrangement Mode (does somebody uses it for real?)
    - Arming Disarming Stuff (accidentally did that all the time while trying to copy paste stuff lol)

      What’s wrong with static machines? I’ve been using them a lot because they are default instead of flex. Are they just slower?

    • @lukaswa2639
      @lukaswa2639 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alexyoungbased I think you're right! Flex Machines are using RAM memory instead of streaming from the Card, so it's bit quicker and more versatile in terms of modulation. But you can't play large samples like couple gb (where static machines are coming in).

    Actually the options in the menus make the Octatrack more powerful because of different use cases. Like the cue studio you can setup real scenes (fader)-effect send to external units (hit me up if you need more infos on that).

      Bibi - The cue studio mode is something I set my OT to straight away. I send the cue outs to spare mixer channels, that mixer channel then sends to different effects. Flexibility 😀

    Oh sheeeeeeeeeeet, he plugged Modular World! I love you even more now and want to have all your babies even though it's not physically possible because of my man parts, womp womp. Aqeel is a God and his performance was the best, below mine of course because, well me and I love myself! I actually took some inspiration from one of your videos for my performance during the Mod World show. The main out of my modular case went into A B on Oktatrack and turned it into an overly expensive Master FX send mixer. But I used the crossfader to blend in a pitched up comb filter on top of everything (because I watched your comb filter video thing) and it makes some great gradual squelchy pitch change sweeps. Ok, done with my email length comment. Love your shit man!

    Quantized trig is good for playing things in time if you set it to a shorter value than pattern length. I imagine pattern length would be good if you have a static machine with like a verse and chorus loop setup as different slices 🤔

  • @NullStaticVoid

    Thanks for covering these menu options.
    I own three other Elektrons, Machinedrum MK1 (fatboy) A4 MK1 and Digitone Keys.
    You would think I'd be walking into Octactrack prepared.
    No such luck. This has to be the least intuitive thing they ever made.
    PS Blofeld really is an amazing synth with major defects.
    (Would it be so hard to fix the damn arp sync to midi, come on Waldorf, one more firmware)
    Everyone should own it at least once to appreciate how powerful a sub $1000 synth can be, and also how brilliant but effed up Waldorf is.

    Just worth knowing that setting CUE CFG to Studio mode enables you to transform CUE OUT to SUB OUT 3/4 which will not make you use CUE function anymore but might be more easier to use it as a mixer, just like you do in the Studio, but yeah it's useless if you don't want that way and go for CUE.

    Sampling problem is when I assign a thru machine to T1 and set the settings all A/B and record setting 1 trick so that I can hear the sound. After that I assign a flex machine to T2 with recording buffer 2 and set everything A/B recording setting and then record a sample after that I go to audio editor and look at the sample and put it into the T2 flex machine. If I then use a trick to play it back, it re-records it in the AED menu and overwrites my recorded sample.....and that's really annoying!!!! If I open a Flex machine in T5 and play the recorded sample, it runs without any problems and it doesn't record anything. What can I do there ???

    Do you think I’d be better off getting this or like an mpc? I have a monomachine and don’t mind the workflow of that but have heard it’s harder on the octatrack. I’ve been planning on getting an octatrack (was actually going to order an mk2 today) wasn’t really thinking about the mpc live 2 as a comparable piece of gear but have heard them compared recently. Would you dissuade someone from investing in an octatrack in 2021? Or do you think it’s held it’s value
