    Thanks for this. I'm in the process of swapping the HD on my son's laptop for an SSD as the former had stopped working. The hardest part (so far) was pulling the plastics apart as they are thin and need a gentle touch.

      Quick tip.. Use a mirror to reflect light onto undersides.. Lot easier to see then.. I did a battery swap and had to remove keyboard so done that bit before. Don't use a torch/phone as you WILL run out of hands.

    Recently installed SSD. Downloaded Windows 10 from M$ and installed that flawlessly. Didn't need any of the Asus tools.
    It's basically a new machine. Starts very fast. Runs flawlessly. Click and things open.

      Hi, my X555L hard drive has stopped working and I need to replace it.
      Is it possible to insert an SSD instead of the HDD and is it easy to install windows?

      @David-Cope 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are running Windows 10 then you can't break it any more!!! lol
      It's awkward but easier than changing the battery.. Just done HDD swap to SSD, Changed DVD drive to HDD dock. Had fun with partitioning DVD Dock HDD (My old system) but having a PS4 solved that. Just used drive as "Extended Storage" on PS4, Partition unrecognised in Windows Disk Manager.. Initialise disk.. Voila.. Problem sorted!!. lol

    Why on earth did Asus build a laptop like this seems overly fiddley compared to most other laptop where the drive is located at the back under an access panel

    • @subbookkeeper
      @subbookkeeper 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's more than a half of laptops with such design these days. Sometimes you have to remove keyboard to crack them open. I think Dells are the worst case but some Sony Vaios and Lenovos are also almost impossible to get inside.

      Bought X555L 3 years ago, I heard strange noices from the screen holding joints, bottom rubber buttons fell out and sevral bolts just disappeared during a first few months. Just after the guarantee ended, several problems occured like scraching noices and ovrheating with very slow performance. Now after only 3 years the laptop keeps blue-dying... several times a day, mostly when i move or tilt the laptop. Would fire on spot the one who designed souch a bad and low quality casing/laptop in general!
