She is probably my favorite female artist right now. Listening to her songs has helped give me insight into the internal battles women are working through. And even helped me to realize some of the dynamics of my relationship with my wife and other women I've been with. As a guy, I know men's issues, but to hear a woman sing with such vulnerability is beautiful. She's not pretending. Her music feels refreshingly authentic. Also, her ability to switch dynamics between light and innocent voice to heavy soul makes her voice something I can enjoy listening to for hours.
Dark skinned Hispanic/Latin women are not common depictions in the media. I literally can't think of a handful.
