  • Muay Thai highlight of a golden age warrior - Anantasak Panyuthapum (อนันตศักดิ์ พันธุ์ยุทธภูมิ).
Anantasak was a strong fighter with immense timing and accuracy. In particular, his timing and ring control with his teep and his jab was one of the best of his generation. In fact, many of his fights were won by KO using his rear uppercut which were usually set up by teeps/fake teeps.
As well as his teep timing and punching, Anantasak was known as one of the best elbow fighters of the golden era and was known as the "Axe Elbow".
Anantasak won the World Muaythai Council belt at 122 lbs and the Siam Boxing Stadium belt at 126 lbs. He was also awarded the Fighter of the Year award in 1997.

I remember him. His real name is Suthisak. His ring epithet is "ai--kwan-sok-bin" or "Flying Elbow Axe". Anantasak's mastery was his range-instinct -- using appropriate weapon according to the distance in quick combination. Because of his skilled boxing technique (esp. uppercuts) he was given chance to train in the Thai national olympics boxing team. But he was a contemporary of Somrak Khamsing so he wasn't selected to represent Thailand at Olympic Games (b'cos Somrak was the best of the best).

Well known for his savage elbow, people tend to neglect the way he really fought. He is a master of range control who work the best in counterpunching situation. Probably more on "Femeu" quotient than a lot people give credit to. He will frustrated you with his teep and jab... a lot. Then when your guard down... booommmmmm... nighty night.

Is it me or does old school striking look better than todays?

It really was. It's called the golden era for a reason. Combat sports today look more streamlined. Everybody does the same stuff with small variations on the same stance. Muay Thai a couple of years ago still had fighters that came in with very different game plans and styles often depending on what region they hailed from. To me the "muay thai" in MMA is a joke, there are a couple of exceptions of course, but it actually hurts when i watch a ufc match with two guys that's been schooled in mma for like 5 years and fkin Joe Rogan claims that "these guys has excellent mooethai". The reason for these nak muay's skill is that they've been fighting pro since 6 years of age and that they often have around 250-400 fights when they finally retire.

Striking in MMA is tailored to avoid or set wrestling/TDs. In terms of pure striking MMA fighters wouldn't last standing up to a nak muay. I train/spar with the two sports & by far a nak muay's skill in striking is better than an MMA fighter.

***** "Striking in MMA some elements are far better than in MT." It was 2 am (now 3) where I'm at so i could've read that wrong, but I'm saying from what I seen/experienced between the 2 sports, some elements in MMA striking are not better than MT. Which was your above comment.

***** Depending on the Nak Muay's style. Along with they way bouts are scored in the 2 sports.

***** Body/leg kicks do score more yes. Ring control is iffy. Boxing is scored less b/c it's usually used to set up a kick. MMA scoring is just as bad if we're going to compare scoring (Woodley v. Wonderboy). Striking, on all levels, is horrendous in MMA compared to the "pure" sports (boxing, MT). That's including head movement, circling, cutting angles, ring control, etc. Combination punching isn't really important if your basics are good. I can play the teep/left body kick/1-2 game all day. Nak Muay's do have good head movement btw. We slip/roll with the punch, but it's not as exgerrated as an MMA fighter b/c (and you see this alot in MMA fights) you can slip right into a head kick and its goodnight. MMA is the jack of all trades, master of none sort of thing. Striking/grappling/submission on average is worst compared to their counterparts b/c they need to take things out to compete effectively. Plus 4 oz. gloves typically mean you're going to move your head more

Heard of him, but never had the pleasure of watching Anantasak. I was more familiar with his stablemate Langsuan. Great highlight!

Hi, thanks for uploading these vids, always a good watch. Do you have anything extra on this fighter in particular? Maybe some longer fight vids so I can take a better look at his technique holistically.

I used to post a lot of his fights on the channel but they started getting taken down for breach of copyright. If you search his name in TH-cam you should be able to find 6 or 7 of them on other channels.
