***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 5 new videos every week! Tuesday through Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

I was born and raised in St. Louis ,Mo. After getting married and having children I decided the city life wasn't the life I wanted for my children so the wife and I packed up and moved to Washington County ,Mo about 15 miles from Potosi. We will be here a year in May I am so happy we decided to move to the country the people here are awesome...most of them anyway lol. Most family and friends ask how do people treat us here being that we are black and I always say " I get treated better now than I ever did in the city" the people here have a since of community and are always willing to lend a helping hand and I make sure to do the same. I wouldn't give this freedom of country living up for nothing.

I was glad to read this. It is hard to find info like this before moving somewhere. Would hate to think we picked the right spot only to have some idiots make us regret it later. Hopefully we come across the right community wherever we end up!

I was born and raised in north Missouri. Always wanted to move to south MO, but haven't made it yet. Really learned to appreciate my home state after 30 years in ministry and living in Iowa, MN, MT, TX. Finally back in Missouri, and if our kids and grandkids were not in Montana, I'd never consider leaving the Show Me state again. Everything you say about the Ozarks is true. Almost as good here in the northeast corner.

We live in Oklahoma and the heat and cold are brutal here plus real estate is crazy high. Please Pray for our family as we do y'all. Love and God Bless! Uncle Jeff!

I moved to Florida 9 years ago but I'm originally from Missouri and lived about 15 miles south of Kansas City. I was born and raised in Independence. I miss Missouri in a lot of ways. My aunt lived close to you, in Camdenton before she passed and we used to go visit her at her farm. They had turkeys, pigs, cows, and chickens. They would name their cows after my mom and dad and several other family members. My mom had a cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks. Good memories!

I am originally from Illinois, at the border of Wisconsin. I moved to a small cabin in the woods and totally love it here. Now what's happening in the world I am so blessed to live here. Dogs love their freedom but unfortunately I can't have chickens due to them. Very cheap living here. Growing veggies finally. I wouldn't move for anything.

After living in AZ forever, I find it so hard to believe people are nice. We moved to Northern AZ thinking smaller town, people will be nicer right--nope. The desert folks were nicer believe it or not. And, to be around Christians, what a blessing. I am so glad for you and your family finding friends and community.

      You’re never to old...!
You do what you can and you’ll be better off than most
      people living in the cities.
Bake some bread, make some wine or mead, have a couple
of chickens or maybe a few Bees for some fresh Honey.
      Whatever you want.
Homesteading is also a state of mind and actions, it’s not
      just about the work...
Just being a Steward of the Land is part of being a Homesteader.
This can be as simple as ensuring that the land you own does not
become polluted with trash or chemicals.
Have a great day and be blessed.

I just found this video sept 14, and really liked how it made me feel. I grew up in MO and have always loved so many of the deep traditions of this state. I know this video is old, and a lot has happened since you made it. My mom was from Thayer and my wife is from Mt Vernon. But the craziness near where I live and the pandemic has closed us off from a lot of travel around the state.
It’s refreshing to watch Godly families like yours live your lives and share it. Keep doing this, please. It’s got me thinking about taking it to the Ozarks in a couple years. Peace be with you!

Really thankful you guys put up this video. I grew up in FL and moved to UT about 4 years ago, and I've been researching and looking for a place to finally settle down and homestead. The humidity and weather fluctuations would be no big deal to me after living in hurricane central and a bipolar desert lol, but what's most appealing about MO is the price of land and growing season. I have an autoimmune disease and want to mostly live self sufficient/organic for my health, and MO is looking like where I'll end up. Here's to hoping and planning for a homestead within the next couple of years!

Your comments about your community and it's wonderful people reminds me of a big incident in my local history. I grew up and still live in a small community in east TN where everyone is also nice and leaves each other alone. But if anyone asks for help, everyone comes to see what they can do. Even if it's just moving furniture or a car gets in the ditch. And the waving when you pass on the road is exactly how it is here. I remember that as a child, I felt I'd achieved a big milestone when I got tall enough to be seen in the car and could participate in the waving.
About 20 years ago, two tornadoes came through our neighborhood in the same night. The whole area was without phones, gas, electricity, etc., for about a week. Some neighbors lost a lot and some lost everything (and I mean everything, down to the last brick). Part of my family was out before daylight cutting trees and helping the emergency workers (there were probably many others, but I don't know about them). The whole neighborhood was out by daylight helping those who had damage and needed help. Everyone worked for a week as if it was their home that was damaged or destroyed, most taking time off work to help.
Another nearby neighborhood that was also hit made the news so everyone knew they needed help. Though FEMA was around seeing what was damaged, it was two days before the Red Cross knew we were hit and came with food, etc. But nobody had gone without because those of us who had, gave to those who needed, including clothes and a place to stay. We hear so much in the news about the bad things people do, it's easy to lose faith in humanity. Though this double tornado strike was a terrible disaster, what happened afterward reinforced my love for my community and reminded me how many great people I live around. I love hearing how much you like your community, how nice the people are and how freely you can share your faith. It's a nice reminder good people are everywhere. God bless America!

The people are nice even over here in St. Louis... most of the time.
I actually used to live in Japan and had a bit of a shock when I came back to Missouri. Everyone in Japan is super polite but kind of distant and formal (at least at first), in Missouri everyone is warm and welcoming but aren't too concerned with "proper" etiquette. It's nice though, I'd wouldn't change Missourians (or the Japanese) even if I could.

My grandparents lived south of Kansas City in a little town called Hillsdale Kansas. I was probably about 4 or 5 years old and got to spend about a week with my grandpa and grandma in Hillsdale. Grandpa had an old 30's something Plymouth that we went to go get something from a store in a different small town. Every car we passed on the old gravel roads my grandpa would just raise his index finger off the steering wheel, just like the driver in the car or truck we passed did. That was the way they waved to eack other! Everyone knew what was being said with just lifting that one index finger off the steering wheel.

My family has been in the Deep South for going on 400 yrs, so I would definitely recommend it for those looking for cheap land, good water, good 2A laws, Christian environment, good homeschooling laws, long growing seasons. You can EASILY grow all year with a greenhouse because some years we get ZERO snow.
That said, if you aren't used to the high heat and humidity, that might be a huge drawback. It is VERY hot here for a VERY long time. :)

Missouri is the south of the heartland... Or the Northern south... Its because most of our great great grandparents came here from the south and its culture..

I grew up in NYC but always wanted to live a simple life, as I called it. Now I live in suburban NJ which is just a toned down extension of NYC. I long to live in the country and have been working hard on my homesteading skills. Now I have to work on convincing my husband. You guys make it sound so wonderful and I’m so jealous.

I from south west Missouri. Moved to Sierra Vista Az and lived there years hated every minute. I would sit by my pool and tell myself how thankful I should be but I missed Missouri! Been back home for 9 years and my house here isn't the best but I'm very happy to be in Missouri I'm living in the next county over where I was raised

I moved to Sarasota Florida 18 years ago and has never felt like it was a fit for me coming from Kansas City Missouri. I cannot get over not having distinct seasons like Missouri provides. I look forward to one day moving back to Missouri. As I speak right now hurricane Ian is bearing down on us and it looks like it could be a total disaster. Could be God’s way of saying it’s time for us to leave and head back home to Missouri

Hi! I live in Southeast Missouri, almost in the bootheel. Born here, lived here all my life! I love that we have the 4 seasons too! Summer is my least favorite! The heat and extreme humidity is awful. If you've never vacationed in Branson, be sure to go there!! It's our favorite place, we go about 2 or 3 times a year! 3 1/2 hrs from us. Welcome to the ShowMe State!💁🏻
