The way Rebecca takes NO breath after "grown and on your wayyyyyyy....(and into) Stay there in my garden. Amazing. Almost every other singer I hear takes a big gasp before "stay". At 5:55
I keep revisiting this to hear those absolutely beautiful floated G5s around 6:00 and 6:20. No one can match what Rebecca did in terms of warmth and beauty of tone. Just gorgeous singing.
I was very fortunate to have seen the original cast on Broadway. I was also over the moon when I met cast. I ugly cried so hard. I honestly don't think this show ever got the recognition it truly deserved. Absolutely heartbreakingly beautiful. RiP Rebecca Luker. The lights on Broadway are not as bright since they lost you.
Certainly did not. I watched it probably 30 years ago now and have not been able to find a place that has replayed this beautiful musical. I was also fortunate that I saw Mandy Patinkin in that role.
Interesting. I was about to comment on how I didn't care much for Rebecca Luker the singer and then I saw this. She's wonderful in this role. So I agree!
I saw RL in Phantom and this original cast. This may be one of the few roles that Rebecca Luker created and it's very difficult for others to match. Even Sierra Boggess (my favorite Christine) cannot come close.
I've been hoping to see any available footage from the original broadway cast. Some years back I was fortunate enough to play this show in the orchestra pit. I was blown away by the power of the story and by the absolutely beautiful music of Lucy Simon. It's such a heavy show emotionally that most of the orchestra had trouble holding back tears. Our music contractor gave me a recording of the Broadway cast, and when I first heard Rebecca Luker, I teared up pretty good. Her voice is amazing! She is one of a kind.
Saw original 4 times. Followed only 2 female people's careers for about 30 years. M Errico is the other. When I leave here, Rebecca Luker's voice will be the voice that welcomes me to the next world.
I just saw Sierra do this in Los Angeles. She was magnificent but seeing this reminds me how unmatched Rebecca's voice is. She is in a league of her own.
Lily and Rebecca are the perfect marriage between actor and character. Her singing in the show is so beautiful and puts you on a different plane of existence when experiencing it. It’s a travesty that she wasn’t even nominated that year. Rest in peace to one of the most beautiful voices on the great white way.
GOSH this is so wonderful! For years the only decent footage of this has been the Tony Awards. Totally takes me back to seeing this on Broadway when it first opened. This cast was stupendous. Mandy Patinkin is just amazing!
Rebecca may you rest in peace.your your angelic voice will be missed but has now joined the angelic choirs in heaven. May God be with your family during this time of losing you.
Thanks for posting this video. I had the pleasure of meeting Rebecca Luker and her husband Danny Burstein more than 20 years ago. Both are amazing artists and down to earth and gracious human beings, especially to fans like me 😊 This video brought back so much memory. I forgot how many times I’d played the OBC CD. It’s one of my all time favourite musicals. Violet is the other one. Both shows share similar creative members if memory serves. I never got to see Rebecca perform live though until the Broadway revival of The Sound of Music. Thanks again for the video. I just hit subscribe too 😊

Agreed.
I’m sobbing through this whole clip. There are no words to describe this show, this cast and Rebecca’s voice. Just stunning.❤️❤️❤️
Rebecca Luker's voice was a gift to all of us.

Rebecca Luker is so perfect in this role you can hardly believe she's human
I still think this was the best thing she ever did on Broadway.
Agreed!

Sierra Boggess is my fave Christine too. In everything else I prefer Sierra but Luker is definitive here.
Daisy Eagan and Rebecca Luker were so perfect in this, it difficult to watch anyone else try to replicate.
What a tragedy we don't have a full, professionally shot record of this amazing original cast. It's a sin.

How true your last words are now.

RIP Rebecca Luker, she’s probably singing come to my garden with Marin in heaven
@Robert Lee, Countertenor agreed they all live on in energy and Marin and Rebecca live in recordings and videos
That is a beautiful thought!
Indeed. Two of the most beautiful voices the stage was ever graced with.

Glad it took you back---thanks for comment.
Agree. Allows me to savor a perfect moment in time for me.
I've only heard the album version of this song which is nothing short of spectacular.
Which song?
Rebecca may you rest in peace.your your angelic voice will be missed but has now joined the angelic choirs in heaven. May God be with your family during this time of losing you.
I like John Cameron Mitchell I like the way sings
Crap the Colin/Lily duet really got to me

This is gold.
Thanks--glad you enjoyed.
Thank you!
Mandy Patinkin and Rebecca Luker wo greaty singers in the original cast.
THIS IS AWESOME! Do you have the rest of it? 8-)
Also, Rebecca doesn't take a breath before "stay here in.." Sierra always does. Just little things. ;)
Honestly should just be 14 minutes of John Cameron Mitchell
Sierra Boggess and Ramim Kamliko are excelent singers but Iprefer Rebecca Luker and Mandy Patinkin who sang ina sublter way, without singing loud.
Agree. So difficult for me to hear anyone but Luker (and Eagan) sing their roles and Boggess and Karimloo are my favorite Christine and Phantom.
mandy patinkin.....🤩🤩
