Stay With Me A Cappella - How to build a vocal arrangement

- Recently at DK Music Academy, vocalist Sam Black recently made an acappella rendition of Stay With Me by Sam Smith.
Here is a simple 'How To' on how we built the vocal arrangement to this song.
By using jewellery, foot stomps and hand claps to make a percussion sounds, we then built the rest of the song vocally.
We use low bass notes to build up the lower frequencies of the piano chords and layer harmonies to create a full chord sound.
By using other vocal harmony parts for strings sections within the song, the track slowly builds.
This is a very gospel influenced song and so we needed to layer the vocal parts in the chorus. By using different vocal tones, we can create a choir from one vocal.
Finally add lead vocal and adlibs and you have a full sounding track for Stay With Me.
Any song can be built in a similar way if you can work out the instrumental parts section by section.

I think viewers (including myself) also expect to know how the editing groundwork of the audio. Overdubbing is easy but editing, mixing and mastering the audio is a different story.

Bartmuz virtual band you could any somewhat advanced video program. Adobe Premire is probably $20/month, or you could use something like Sony Vegas.

But I guess if you mix it well and add just the right amount of reverb, it'll fill up.

Thank you for your video. I would go about it differently. In a daw, I would lay down the lead vocal first, then build the harmonies around it. If necessary, I would arrange the lead vocal to accommodate the harmonies.

My main question, do you need each of the tracks be at the same volume or do you need to have different tracks at different volumes?
I’m trying to practice by making a small demo of a made up song. I have the melody of it and I’m trying to add a kick drum just by using my voice. When I tried that, it didn’t sound right, it felt like they were clashing and didn’t mix well with each other. The kick does sound louder and I’m wondering if that’s what I need to do to fix it or if I need to do something else

who asked you? acapella is music from the voice, not jewlery.
+Will Watson im not certain but as long as you aren't using something that would be considered a musical instrument, I think it can be used in an acapella.
+Onixpected just so we are clear...couodnt everything that creates sound can be consider a musical "instrument" including a persons vocal box

I really wish people would actually sing .. im sure she sounds great IRL but all these videos are so doctored ... its really dissapointing. You can tell is audio is touched up as well.
