    Mine just came in. I thumped on the spine with my other hand and nothing closed. I'm good with the shape & size. Very high sharpness. Completely even finish. Worth the cost.

    I'd love to see how to updated design holds up. I'm glad I waited and got the updated version. Unfortunately most first releases of all manufacturers MAY have issues just like with vehicles. Good stuff man

    • @doodysdaggers
      @doodysdaggers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, this kind of stuff does happen. Vosteed has not even acknowledged it though, as far as I know. That’s kinda shitty

    • @poncho151
      @poncho151 ปีที่แล้ว

      This seems like even the smallest bit of testing would have exposed this long before it went into full production. Also if it’s true that as Doody said, they haven’t even acknowledged it, then that’s just as crazy. You don’t see stuff like this from brands like Protech, Hogue, etc. because they’d be risking the possibility of a class action lawsuit or worse if enough people had the issue or cut themselves.

    • @JCpNK

      @@doodysdaggers They did right after all the noise about it came out.. Why they updated the design with a stiffer spring, different milling on lock spot, and harder steel on the button.. Also they stated if anyone wasn’t happy they could send them back for a refund. Most companies wouldn’t have done that IMO

    I like that you changed up the testing line up. Gives them a good chance at cutting the rope and strap. But then again getting to the rope and strap after all the other test proves a good knife too. So I’m uncertain now what way it should be lol

    • @doodysdaggers
      @doodysdaggers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm yeah, I can’t decide which way is better either. I think having the strap and rope later is definitely more difficult for the knife to get through. But it proves a knife can hold a good edge if it gets through the other materials and then can cut the rope and strap. Yeah I think the way I have it is good now that I think about it haha

    Well once it failed once, the more you make it fail the easier it will fail. I got mine a couple of months ago and I spine whacked it pretty good a couple of times and it was fine, so i won't worry about it. I don’t really do abusive thing to an EDC knife.

    In what kind of cuts will this knife fail on you? Or is it more if you stab/violently hack something where it's a risk?

    • @doodysdaggers
      @doodysdaggers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn’t do any cuts where it failed on me. But like I said in the video, you may be able to get through your daily tasks just fine without it failing. But because it can fail with just a soft tap on the spine, I would be always worried about it closing on me

      Say you're cutting up in the mountains and get clumbsy & fall with it open or a branch comes down unexpectedly when it's open then that's your risk.

    Wow. I don’t know that many button locks are designed and built to take much of a spine wack, or static weight test.
    It seems that weakness is inherent in the design.
    IMO, button locks knives are the Leatherman FREE series to multitools: great for general home use.

    • @doodysdaggers
      @doodysdaggers  ปีที่แล้ว

      It shouldn’t be failing that easily, none of my other button locks fail with a tap on the spine or even a strong whack.
      As far as the weights, I dunno, Id have to hang the same weight off some other button locks. I’ll never know for sure until I try. 😉
      I’ll try it with some of my other button locks. Not the Malibu though haha
      But yeah, they aren’t designed for anything harder than simple day to day stuff. I’d just be hesitant to carry and use this knife after seeing that a light tap can fail the lock

    Fact: Vosteed is new competition. If they gave it to another Chinese factory to OEMA their models, it would pay dividends to build in fsilure and question raised for Vosteed. The way Chinese doesn't think the same on patents as we do which is arguably a smaller matter, why not be this cutthroat as well? People are saying Chinese are stepping up quality, but that might be talk or shill and business practices being what they are, we might not still be served to trust? Now if there's other elements like good thermal cycles on good alloys with correct geometries than we're getting SOMETHING worth having & taking the good with the bad.

    The first 2/3 of this video is a waste of time. If the knife is used, why would you test sharpness? And if you sharpened it, and it isn't sharp, that says more about your knife sharpening skills than it does the steel. Good to know not to trust the button lock though. I'd love to know if the crossbar lock (axis lock) would fail any of your tests.
