    Weekends are always a little on the crazy side... Do the basic daily chores and head out for some fun? Or tackle some of the projects that pile up during the busy work week? Owning animals takes sacrifice. Currently, we are doing chores twice a day, and need to make sure little Ladybug and Sugar are doing okay. It keeps us a little more "stuck at home" than other seasons during the year.
    Right now, in northern British Columbia, Canada...we are in the heat of summer. Hitting 30 degrees Celsius makes for some difficulty in tackling chores outside. The biggest priority? Keeping the animals hydrated and in good health.
    We are just a small farm on 10 acres. It's been a project building pens and fences, and taking on a few horses that needed homes desperately in January of this year. Some days it feels like a lot...but we truly do love this life and strive to give our animals the best care that we are able to give.

    I love your videos. I am so glad to have had the algorithm send me in your direction! I love your forthright and sincere presentation of both facts and fun! Nothing is glamorized or made to seem way better than it actually is. I raised my kids on a small farm with lots of smaller animals like goats and chickens, feeder calves and horses too. Central Alberta girl. Loved the work, even though everything kept us busy. It's so rewarding to see even small steps of progress. Your channel is a bit nostalgic for me, in a way. Beautiful property and such a wonderful and hard working family. You are doing great work. Thank you so much for taking the extra time and effort to film this for our enjoyment. It is very much appreciated.

      You are so sweet! Thank you for the kind words! My goal is to be as real as possible. It is farm life after all... which naturally has its mess, beauty, life, and death. Hey! You are pretty much a neighbor! Central Alberta to Northern BC! I love it! Yes, this life isn't for the faint of heart....a lot of time, blood, sweat, and tears go into setting up a place and building something from nothing.
      I'm so glad you are enjoying it! People like you make it worth the time to keep recording, editing, and sharing this lil farm life. 😊

      I LOVE THEM!!! It's honestly beyond my wildest dreams that I would ever be able to raise a foal from Day 1. Truly a special experience! Tons of work, but once we get some systems in place...hopefully it'll 'get easier'. 🤣 Thank you for being a supporter!

    Yes, on Fresian Horses, in Netherlands, she fed her filly from a bucket, she big now. The mother only has one nipple. A very good mother, just couldn't get enough milk.

      I'm going to keep trying! But so far she doesn't have the hang of it yet...and she is gaining weight, lots of urinating, healthy poops, with lots of energy. So we will just keep an eye on things and supplement if she wants it!

    ❤ I watch the same video's from the Netherlands, be consistant with the bucket feeding, same bucket, same time. She is doing well over there. Good milk supliment and I think Ladybug will do fine. Keep an eye on her legs, better to get them checked when she's young the way the growth plates are. Less cost, if any if you get them checked at her young age. Keep up the good work with Ladybug.

      Hi, I follow the same Netherland video, good milk supliment. I know when Ladybug was just born she talked about her legs, Knocked kneed. I notice she crosses those legs alot, brings the right leg over alot. I kindly told her to get them checked while she's young.

    • @Liltroyerfarm
      @Liltroyerfarm  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes for sure. You are right, her right leg is more 'crooked' than the left. Although at only a week old, she has already straightened quite a bit! It is something we will continue to keep an eye on.

    I shifted a calf from bottle to bucket by using my finger coated in milk so the baby sucked on it, then lowering it into the bucket so at first he was sucking the milk from my submerged finger, then slowly he got the idea of drinking. Don't know if it'll work for a foal....Any suggestions or anecdotes are made with no judgements or expectatons attached, they're just what I think of as I watch your tasks. And the way neighbors share their experiences in hopes something helps.....

    • @Liltroyerfarm
      @Liltroyerfarm  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Absolutely great tips!!! We have done this lots for calves and even goat kids. Ladybug has no interest in sucking on my finger even dipping it in milk....so it's tricky.... I love the healthy input, don't be shy!

    Just seen your husband's post. Keep up the great work! Not sure how private you keep your channel so I won't type out your names but you're doing great. Lol I'm hoping I'll be dropping by this fall and I'll make sure to say hi to you if you're not to busy.

    The one you think is possibly got Arabian in her,I think you may be right,although her belly is a bit large,she’s very elegant,not as heavily built as the others in the legs.Even her head is more shaped than the others.Shes a beautiful horse.Is her coat so bad because of the neglect she had at the last place ?!it’s not as bad as Lady’s Mum. But it can be re conditioned I am sure over time,it’s like our hair if we don’t look after it .A bit of TLC and it gets better.i hope the new boot helps,she was very good letting you put it on her.Is she Poppy,sorry I missed the name the first few times.I am not good with names unless I use them all the while .You’re doing good with Lady ,any extra milk is a bonus…It was nice seeing the other horses.I think they are amazing and intelligent creatures .I only ever rode one once ,but to be honest I am scared of heights ,so it was a bit scary,and just as I was getting used to it the lesson ended..Sending Love to you and the children 🥰

    • @Liltroyerfarm
      @Liltroyerfarm  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes, she has a pretty light frame. Which makes it seem more unusual that she would have a big belly....we are thinking baby belly, but we will find out in due time!
      She is a blue roan color, which means if she has ever had a scratch or bite or any kind of injury, then those spots grow in black. Sugar (Lady's mom) has substantially more due to being a lot older and likely seen more skin injuries.
      Horses are amazing! I have loved them since a little child. The heights thing can be a learning curve as some of the taller horses make you feel like you are quite high up there!
      Thank you for your support! 🥰

    You are probably getting tired of my input, but we had very geriatric horses for some years. A natural drawing and soothing poultice of peppermint and catnip works great for swollen joints be it an injury or arthritis. It is hard to find peppermint leaves at times, so I used spearmint leaves with peppermint oil drops added. Wet the catnip and mint leaves with just enough water to make a paste, spread in on a tea towel or flour sack cloth, old sheets or flannel work too, and wrap around the joint and then hold in place with cloth strips or vet wrap. This will reduce swelling and increase blood flow for healing. Twice a day for a couple hours at a time. Tell me to shut up if you are or get tired of my suggestions.

    • @Liltroyerfarm
      @Liltroyerfarm  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Not tired of it at all!!!! You have good things to say! I will have to try that wrap on Raven!!! Thank you for the suggestion. 😊

    Is there a farrier someplace close to you to help with Sugar's feet?

    • @Liltroyerfarm
      @Liltroyerfarm  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Yes, a work in progress! Farriers are overworked and overbooked in our area...the good ones are hard to find. My hubby has had a brief run down on farrier work, so he has been trimming Sugar when he catches her laying down to avoid sedation. But we plan to bring in an expert with some sedation to see if she can get a big reset.

    I noticed that you don't have any shade for sugar and baby, what happens when it rains or if sun too hot. Also I noticed a change in sugar as you can see her ribs more now bless her.

    • @Liltroyerfarm
      @Liltroyerfarm  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      When the sun gets hot, it is in a position where the pen is fully shaded. We moved them out of the pen because where they were had turned to mud. There is no rain at all in our forecast for at least another 10 days, and then we will move them back to the pen with a shelter. Sugar was actually a bit ribby before, it is more pronounced now that she has just had a foal. All those muscles and ligaments have relaxed, which make her appear in worse shape. We need to be very very careful how much weight she puts on due to how lame she is. A couple of these things, I addressed on the video called, July 4 Small Farm Vlog (They Had To Move!)
