I feel like Ye believes that at some point he is actually going to find a company or a brand, or a collaborator that actually, truly loves him and will stand by him. That will never happen. It will always be about the money. Companies don't care about you. They just don't. That's not their job. You don't create a contract that says, "I will love you and we will be best friends and stand by each other, not matter what."...You create a contract that says, "We are going to make boat loads of money. Isn't that great!"

You’re spot on. Kanye simply isn’t interesting to me. He has fleeting moments of interesting unique thoughts, but that’s really where it ends. In longer form interactions he becomes dull because he’s an awful listener and begins to seem disconnected from the conversation. Lex listened to a long stream of consciousness style monologue from him, and responded with a profound response/premise, and it fell on deaf ears lol. Boring. So the media can demonize Kanye, the right-wing can adopt him as a profound thinker being persecuted, I’m in the middle - complete indifference towards this dude. I enjoy the bangers he out all the way back to College Dropout, but I don’t care what he says outside the medium of music.

Kanye is an example of someone who got too caught up in comparing themselves to others that in that competition and striving to be like another person (essentially fueled by the wrong motives), he has lost his own identity completely.

@fitaddiction 369 if that was the case, everyone interviewing these people would be equally well perceived. But I just don't think that's true. Lex gives a lot of room for his interviewees instead of sucking the air out of them. He just gives the room to them, and that's an art. While it may appear as a passable performance, it's actually really hard to give others the right context and the right ground, not interject, and be almost invisible. In my opinion, Lex is a master at interviews and helps create an amazing space for these individuals.
@fitaddiction 369 this is so dumb. He’s great at letting a conversation flow and allows his guests a lot of reign to take the conversation to places they didn’t expect naturally. He makes his guests feel comfortable and as a result he’s able to have honest conversations with them about love, courage, pride etc.
Interesting when Lex said he considers himself equal, and to see Ye’s reaction. That’s his problem - he really does think he’s superior to other people, and that’s why he ultimately has nobody in his corner. That’s the thing that makes people compare you to Hitler, because that was, like, their whole thing.
The sad thing is: nothing he has is what he actually wants. And every time when he opens his mouth and rambles like a crazy person in the park, he is moving himself further away from it.

That was the most telling part of the interview, when Lex flushed Ye out of his comfort zone, ‘MONEY TALKS but wealth whispers’ comes to mind, wealth is much more 3D than the 2D topic of counting your dollars.

ironically, people of Lex's ilk have a penchant for taking virtue and minimizing its importance. Kanye saw through Lex's charade and gave him what it deserves - a reminder that this is essentially performative on Lex's part.
Truthfully though, it must be mildly insulting to be Kanye and treated like that. OF COURSE someone like Kanye, with extravagant wealth, knows that life is about more than that. Can we all take a moment to reflect on the brilliance of Lex and his humanness… 🙇🏾 Ye raises some very important points, as messy as they are… that artists and creatives do not retain control of their work. Black communities (and their creative leaders) are often governed and policed by such publishers, media and other behind the scenes individuals/entities, and this point is as important now as it was in the days of Ray Charles. Even Ye’s own peers and mentors are forced into these working dynamics. It’s an important point that gets lost in the mud of culture, and our inability to talk about culture and race openly. Black artists have always struggled to gain and maintain their agency, and many creators have the same issues at these levels. I’ve worked in the music industry and seen it up close. I imagine parallels in other places.
It's really tiring listening to Ye. I don't understand how a man can think this highly of himself, I cringe for him listening to the stuff that comes out of his big mouth. He doesn't have a humble bone in his whole body.
When you try to move a troubled person from content (their facts) to process (their emotions) they will deflect if it feels too vulnerable for them. When Lex tried to tell Ye they were the same in an empathic sense, he couldn’t meet his gaze and deflected to humor and changed the subject. Could have been taken off guard by empathy or a bruised ego because someone said he’s just a normal guy (or both)…but it wasn’t something Ye was able to hold in that moment…most interesting piece I’ve seen of any of the interview clips
I imagine his contract was structures so he can't win a court battle at all. Likely, the contract also had horrifying clauses if he were to back out. Making them drop him was his only move in this case.
Although I don't agree with some of your point of view on the interview I have to say solid gold on the interview in itself you did a fantastic job and I am totally a subscriber on the strength that you're non-biased you state your point you're not a punk in no way you stand up for yours and I like that at the same time you allow the guests to say what they need to convey and I can appreciate you for that and I don't think Kanye meant to offend someone like you or any other person in your group since I can't say the actual word
To Ye: Just make MUSIC if that’s the most important creative outlet in your life. MUSIC never let you down. It picked you upwards to your dreams. All these other titles and businesses are just residue that make money from your creative energy, but they all come with a price. MUSIC never took anything from you, it was always in your core. Go back to just making MUSIC and save your sanity.

Black communities (and their creative leaders) are often governed and policed by such publishers, media and other behind the scenes individuals/entities, and this point is as important now as it was in the days of Ray Charles.
Even Ye’s own peers and mentors are forced into these working dynamics. It’s an important point that gets lost in the mud of culture, and our inability to talk about culture and race openly.
Black artists have always struggled to gain and maintain their agency, and many creators have the same issues at these levels. I’ve worked in the music industry and seen it up close. I imagine parallels in other places.

When you try to move a troubled person from content (their facts) to process (their emotions) they will deflect if it feels too vulnerable for them. When Lex tried to tell Ye they were the same in an empathic sense, he couldn’t meet his gaze and deflected to humor and changed the subject. Could have been taken off guard by empathy or a bruised ego because someone said he’s just a normal guy (or both)…but it wasn’t something Ye was able to hold in that moment…most interesting piece I’ve seen of any of the interview clips
