I've tried skycouch with a friend for a 16 hour and though it was pretty small (i'm 6'5), it was still nice to be able to lay down in some capacity. still, when i fly vancouver to auckland i go for premium economy because i can't sleep on planes and there's tons of aisle room to stretch etc. I feel like I need to try skycouch alone though, because it's still about half the cost of premium economy.
I might give it a go if you're flying solo. 6' 5" is pretty big for the SkyCouch but I think it's still a better option than premium economy just for the plus of lying flat. Let me know what you think of your solo trip experience when you try it!
You forgot to mention the 'On demand' snack service that can be ordered through the IFE. The seat pitch of seats that are 'Skycoach' capable is 33" (83cm). Rest of the economy seats, the pitch ranges from 31" (78cm) to 32" (81cm).
Thank you for the comment and additional details I missed! Personally, I didn't notice the extra couple inches in the recline but that is an important differentiator!
@@travelingteetimes9342 - The was the seat pitch (the space between the seat in front of you and your seat). The seat recline for all economy seats is 12cm (approx 6inch). You are right, it is more comfortable for 1 or 2 people in the Sky Coach seats than in premium economy. Air NZ Skycoach product is a good product.
Hey! I'm thinking to go from houston. Was wondering, how abd would you say the turbulence is overall? And in the approach to auckland? Also, if you happened to go to wellington as well, how was the flight from auckland to wellington? In terms of turbulence and other factors? Thanks!
Hey!! Turbulence wasn't that bad at all. Things were pretty smooth sailing all the way to Auckland. I think it depends a lot on what weather is going on during the flight but the flight plan was great. I didn't make it down to Wellington so I can't speak much about it. Hope that helps!
When the sky couch is deployed, how do you get out to go to the bathroom? Does the arm rest on the aisle come up so you can slide into the aisle with the couch still down?
mash potatoes were well done throughout. …Not sure how they could be any other way…. On the couch, if there isn’t another option for the price, then it seems a terrific idea. Looks a little tight but being able to lift your feet & prevent them swelling is worth it whilst the gentle engine noise probably helps drown out the snorers & causes you to drift off quickly. Really lovely video & I’m glad you went thru the headphones and foot rest etc. most other vids don’t address the details. Thank you. 👍
Traveling Tee Times your figures aren’t correct: the more travellers in the row the cheaper it gets to add the couch: if one adult with two children are travelling then to add the couch is only a couple of hundreds more..not per seat but in total
I am going to LAX to AUCKLAND by myself. It is $1200 extra one way, and $1000 extra going back. I don't have to share the row with anyone and I will sleep for 10 hours, PRICELESS!
What happens if the passenger in front of you reclines their seat to its max. You lose any room you thought you had and in danger of having your knees damaged as I did on a long haul flight. The passenger in front put his seat into full recline while I was sleeping. I ended up with cut and bruised knees and the although the crew did manage to move me so that they could deal with the injuries. Not one word of apology from the passenger who kept stating it was their right to fully recline the seat they paid for. I now will not travel economy it’s not worth getting injured as the seats are far too close.
I'm so sorry to hear about that experience!!! That's horrible to hear! I did not have that experience on this flight. I lost some leg room from the recline but even as someone who is 6ft tall, I didn't have any injury from it.
Wait so by booking a sky couch seat, and hoping no one was there, you basically got a sky couch for free?! Am I hearing this right?! If so, I’m gonna try that when I fly to New Zealand...
My wife and I just booked a flight on ANZ and considering upgrading to Skycoach. The cost to upgrade is $499. I cannot find on the website if the $499 is for the round trip (Skycoach both ways) or $499 leaving and $499 returning?
The cost each way may vary depending on availability but the charge is for one way. When you book your return ticket, you will be charged for the skycouch again.
If you had to pick one way, pick the flight that goes east to west, it's usually the longer flight so it may be worth your money just a tad more than your west to east flight.

I'm six foot 7 but i could sleep in it by sleeping with my legs slightly bent
Thank you I was looking at this as Sydney to any where is also awfully long and painful economy
Thank you for sharing your feedback about air New Zealand skycouch.
Seems expensive at $1k extra ...
Yeah definitely a bit much but a worthy alternative if premium economy or business class is too much

If you are flying as a family of 3 or more, it's much cheaper to upgrade to the skycouch and get extra seats.
Very good point!

The mash potatoes could have been cold, watery or dry..Not that uncommon from my experience on an economy flight.
Wow! It doesn't cost that much coming from New Zealand.
Just booked and only $200 per person on top of normal seat Perth to Auckland.
How was it?!
the upgrade is not 1000 dollars on a 600 dollar seat, for 2 people the upgrade price is 399 one way for both of you.
Upgrade price varies based on the flight...I've seen anywhere from 649 to 1,000. And you're correct, it is for the entire group.

This is true. I just paid for my partner and I to fly to LAX and we only paid $549 for the both of us, for the skycouch

What aircraft was this?
Boeing 777-200

I kept a close on on the seat chart and changed rows to make sure I had an empty one 24hrs before I flew and hoped for the best! Best of luck!
Traveling Tee Times Wow thanks soo much!!! I’m totally gonna do that!!! 😂😂😂

I’m lost lol so u have to book 3 seats ? IK not price x 3. But ?Or hope no one else sits there ? Or no one else pays the extra cost too ?
You only need to buy one seat then pay the upgrade fee. I got lucky no one else sat in my row so I got the SkyCouch without paying the additional fee.
thanks
Wish we have for Pakistan too
Wait is this an actual thing lmfao
That it is, and it's great! Definitely worth considering!
if you ordered the skycouch of course there isn't going to be anyone seated next to you lol
I got lucky and had no one next to me even though I didn’t buy the skycouch.
