  • The Meteorite Men are on their way to the Northeast Astronomy Forum (NEAF) in New York -- one of the world's top astro and telescope events -- for a personal appearance, when a massive fireball lights up the sky over rural Wisconsin. Geoff continues on to NEAF to hold down the fort, while Steve begins an all-night drive to the fall site. Later, Geoff takes the MM's custom Orange County Chopper motorcycle to meet Steve and, together, they attempt to solve the mystery of the Mifflin meteorite fall. Locals turn out in huge numbers to try and find their own space rocks, and the guys begin training the next generation of meteorite hunters.
EXCLUSIVE TRIVIA BY HOST GEOFF NOTKIN
The director of NEAF, seen in this episode, Alan Traino, reached out to the Meteorite Men in 2009 and asked them to be the keynote speakers at the forum, which is one of the world's foremost astronomy events. The MM's keynote went over so well that they were invited back and returned to speak and exhibit multiple time during the years that followed. Geoff and Alan became very good friends and Alan founded the Astronomy, Science, and Arts Expo in Tucson, which was covered by NASA, and at which Geoff was also a keynote speaker. Alan went meteorite hunting in the Sahara with the Meteorite Men during 2019. He was an expert caver (spelunker) and worked on studying and protecting the endangered bats that lived in some of the caves he explored. Sadly, he passed away in 2020.

I used to golf with my Dad. When lightning threatened he would always say "Hold up your one iron because even God can't hit a one iron".

I guess that I'm not the only one who experiences car trouble so often. My car is an old clunker.

Look at the west south west side that meets Minnesota, and Three hundred miles north. See an old Meatierite impact Crater and just below is another Meatierite impact Crater. I called them Martha and Louise Sondrol.

I saw this happen in the night sky over north Hertfordshire, UK, about twenty years ago. Big flash turning night into day. Meteor came down in a westerly direction. No idea where it landed?

Geof, are you planning to write a meteorite book classifying all your meteorite finds by locations with photos of your collection?

My question is why was it important to not touch the first meteorites but the other ones are picked up with hands?

1971 or 72, watched a huge fireball come down north of grand meadow mn. I thought it was a plane crashing. Looked like it would've landed close to the Rochester airport. Never heard anyone else report it. Spectacular and green.

Ok. I've got a stone total with 11 lbs . And someone told me it's not a meteorite . I had it tested via XRF and it showed a very high content of iridium, some iron and some copper.
I chopped it up on my wet saw into 11+ pieces...
It looks like a mesosiderite meteorite inside... i found it in a stream so it had been tumbled and weathered quite a bit . And the metals are all through the stone and highly visible.
I'm going to post some pictures on my channel.
If someone could hop over there and have a look see id be grateful for an opinion from someone who ACTUALLY knows what they're talking about.

I grew up with people who was born in the Elk River head waters, Oregon. Many people have disappeared on Salmom Mountain looking for the rock. I have been fortunate enough to have known people who lived there and had experiences with minors who lived there
