How fun. My last rig was a junk schooner and boy did I not miss ducking to avoid getting clocked by the old gaff’s booms... But to each his or her own? Our new rig in process is an even smaller junk with free standing rig lol. Getting older and simpler. Interesting comments here telling you how to build your boat, it’s like being in the yard with all the experts staring at you.
At 15:54 Garrett is standing with his back to the Tupperware boat behind him, looking at Rediviva. "Luhrs" is prominently displayed to the right of Garrett's left shoulder. What a stark contrast-- a boat that was sprayed into a mold next to a boat built with heart, blood, sweat and tears from living products of the Earth. Spraying some crap out of a nozzle and putting a baggie over it for 16 hours isn't exactly "building" a boat. Gag me. Michael's artistry on the doo-dads for climbing the mainmast (sorry, I keep missing the term for those), is absolutely stunning. Luhrs and their ilk would never attempt anything like that. Rediviva has soul. That Tupperware thing has nothing. Fun fact: those spray-molded fiberglass boats burn many times faster and hotter than wood... jump or die! Yeef...
WOW!! That really was a ‘Round peg out of a square one!’ Great video! Love the time lapse of Schwab..... he truly is a mover and shaker.... NOT! A true dogs life he is living! I’m glad you ‘brought us along’ on this magical journey of yours. Thanks All the best Richard. 👍🇬🇧
As a boat it floats - as a design it will roll in the sea - it will pitch unconfortably in short seas - it will not be able to sail close to the wind - but it is your home - you made it- much congrats and admiration
Great job on the interior! I really like the cozy warm colors. A well designed color scheme makes a lot of difference when you are stuck inside waiting for cabin fever to set in :-) No production boat will ever be homely like this.
Love your work, just a tip from someone who suffers from tinnitus from not wearing ear protectors when using power tools, if you have them, use them. :D
Yes sir, I refer to them as "ear goggles". Indispensable. I'm supposed to get flavanoids to help, but prevention... yeah. I have two different tones in each of my ears. Weird. Just don't go there in the first place.
Yup! I'm 56 years old and wish i had better protected myself. I have to have a radio or tv on all night to sleep. Not sure why the radio and tv calm me and allow me to sleep, they are noise, but in total dead quiet the ringing in my head is so loud and i just cant help focusing on it and going insane. Best comparison is trying to sleep when someone is snoring. You get to the point of wanting to strangle them LOL!
I can’t imagine! I love music etc and the thought of one day not being able to hear terrifies me! When I listen to music too loud my partner reminds me I want to hear my grandkids one day and that I should turn it down!
for those 1 gallon metal containers, the first step is to put a screwdriver under just the plastic (child safety lock) portion of the top and pop it off. it doesn't take much force and makes the metal cap under the plastic much easier to open.
Looking good. I must say that your editing skills Ruth are getting better and better all the time. The multiple camera angles really give the production that professional look. Fantastic.
All these power tools... Brace and bit, augers, chisels - I have once seen you sharpen a Chisel or a Drill Bit, both critically important tasks! I LOVE your work, and you are doing an EXCEPTIONAL JOB, I just kind of expected the toolage to match the era of the boat build. No complaints, just commenting on MY bias. no reason it should effect YOUR bias.
The whole boat is looking great. You might want to bring some of the cherry into the cabin and add some tung oil to it. The red from the cherry will probably change the appearance of the yellow.
Just the tip that always works for me. when painting plywood, if you have a knot and want to cover easily so it don't come back through take a little bit of Bondo auto body filler mix a little up smooth a little on Sand a little off prime paint..
Hey Ruth, you can also save yourself some work with the paint blending etc by getting the base sealed up more by using Elmer's Glue All (not school glue) either as a coating or blended into paint.. check your paint's variety for compatibility... don't know if you're using an oil, latex or synthetic base. It will help seal porosity and reduce grain or filler variations to a similar consistency of finish.
That paint has so much added to it that a computer is going to have a hard time matching it. Thank God you did the mixing because it went from cringe to a pretty good match
Invariably needs a bit of black. If you go to a car paint supplier and pick a colour, have a look at the colours it's made up in % on top of the base colour. It might surprise you what's in there.
Delightful! Your videos are a highlight of my week. Creativity, purpose, perseverance, skill, fun, and results; Together with working as a team and a gentle vibe: a very special combo. (I am very much aware of the 'backend of being tired, stressed, frustrated etc. But the good bits keep this project afloat) Love ya! Willem
My friends boat had with a skinny thin main boom in a stiff blow it bent like a bow and arrow , i always waited for it to snap that was on San Francisco bay where the wind can really blow !
"Back Mechanic" by Stuart McGill is an excellent book by one of the world's leading experts on spinal health and spinal injury recovery. I've heard Garrett saying that his back is bothering him on a few occasions and this book will greatly improve your life if you apply it Garrett. I sure hope you guys see this post. Be blessed!
Once you herniated (bulge) a spinal disc, it is and always remain a weak area. BTW, more women injure their spine from bending over a washer, picking up wet cloths and twisting to deposit the cloths into a dryer. A simple task is all it takes.
Nice Garrett She's looking fabulous she's beginning to show her character. Yeah the beam looks a little beefy but that's fine Garrett. She's look great. I think a little more orange looks better Ruth. Its fine! looks awesome...
That final yellow is lovely. It's slightly muted, so it really makes the color of the tiles pop. If you really want to go for that warmer yellow that's in some of the tiles, you might try a glaze lightly tinted with a slightly more orange tone over that current yellow. The color's pretty great as it is, though. I don't know that I'd bother.
Hi. I always like to be positive because I know it’s a tough slog over many years to accomplish what you are trying to accomplish... but your boom is appropriate for a boat ten feet longer than Rediviva. It’s a lethal weapon and needs to be pared down and a little shorter, and the clew end should be higher. It will damage a person or your rig in an unintended or emergency gybe. The momentum will be fierce, and you will need a gallows to lash it.
Alphonse, the gaff boom will be where it should be when the main gaff sail is in use. As for the gallow, its only use is for the main boom at rest, no other time.
Ruth...yellow+red= orange...adding white only soups it out...if you want French mustard...yellow+brown...those tiles shouldn't be framed in by a color that resembles the tile yellows, for then your trim color will end up either competing or clashing...& not complimenting or highlighting the tiles. The tiles need to remain the eye catching focus...in turn the wood trim edge needs to be a darker outline..do you understand ? Im not intending to dictate your move..but to lead you to a place you'll be extremely satisfied...one trick is to use color sample chips-cards..& set them alongside the tiles for choice making...PS- Redadiva looks splendid
hi guys, i work with chaser just up the river and i stopped buy on Sunday and heard the sanders running i waited for a while but no body came out so i left i just wanted to offer some help and see what you needed help with i might try again soon. did not want to stop progress the boom looks great

Its amazing how your youtube channel is more enjoyable to watch than $200.00 a month cable television.
WOW!! That really was a ‘Round peg out of a square one!’ Great video!

All the best Richard. 👍🇬🇧
Every week you make Redeviva more beautiful and closer to sailing. Way to go guys.
This guy’s wood working skills never ceases to amaze me. 👍
I love that bright yellow. We painted our stairs and landing that colour. Even on the dullest of days it looks as if the sun is shining.
The boom being positioned finally makes it look like a boat. Can't wait to see the day you raise the sail for the first time.
As a boat it floats - as a design it will roll in the sea - it will pitch unconfortably in short seas - it will not be able to sail close to the wind - but it is your home - you made it- much congrats and admiration
Can,t wait to see that bad boy under full sail.
Every day the boat will look more boaty. 💪🏻
I would replace the nuts helping to hold on the jaws with an Acorn style nut. It will give it a more finished look and would be safer.
Great job on the interior! I really like the cozy warm colors. A well designed color scheme makes a lot of difference when you are stuck inside waiting for cabin fever to set in :-) No production boat will ever be homely like this.

This video was so satisfying...ASMR......love you guys. This NZ born Landlubber is living vicariously through you.
27 minutes of AWESOME!! Thanks Ruth! I was actually digging the yellow. Everything looks so beautiful. Such an incredible adventure.
For rounding, I was so grateful when someone introduced me to draw knives and spoke shaves. So much faster than planers and sandpaper.
The boom is looking very good and yes Ruthie is doing a good job too :-) .
You made rounding that boom look easy! Love the easy way you both work together. Such a nice couple.
To soften the yellow add a touch of purple. Look to the opposite side of the color wheel to neutralize it
Love the longer episode. The end seems so close. I can't wait to see sails on her.
for those 1 gallon metal containers, the first step is to put a screwdriver under just the plastic (child safety lock) portion of the top and pop it off. it doesn't take much force and makes the metal cap under the plastic much easier to open.
I like the round to octagon transition on the boom, looks good!
Ruth, take your paint tray with the color you mixed to the big box store and they will match it so you will have extra of that color. Love the tiles
I would love to see Redeviva, Arabella and Tally Ho all together some day. Make it happen guys.
I second that emotion. Love all you guys.
Great idea, that would be awesome
♥️ that idea
Don’t forget to include Odd life crafting and Sv seeker Raft up party 🎉 😎👍🇦🇺🍻🍻
Add in sailing Yaba
Also Restoring Rosalind
That boom is really a pretty piece of wood, very clear.
She is so beautiful and coming together so nicely. Great job guys!
make the boom high enough so you can tent your boat to keep it cooler!
Wow, that boom is about as round as you could get. Nice work man.
At 18:54 that’s a proud man standing there💯 and you should be brother, rediviva looks amazing!👊you guys are knocking this out of the park!
Thank you for showing so much swab I love him
Looking good. I must say that your editing skills Ruth are getting better and better all the time. The multiple camera angles really give the production that professional look. Fantastic.
nice work guys, really looks good
you can see the amount of hard work
that yall do, can't wait to see Salt & Tar when shes finished
get the sails and we can go sailing. Keep up the good work and Stay Safe
When you are reefed down in a heavy blow, you won't be bothered by that "heavy" boom one bit
Thought you might have counter bored the bolts for the cheek pieces on the boom ...
Tapering the boom would be nice but also a lot of extra work... beefy and strong is also nice...
#workboat #overengineered
The ship is looking sweet!☺💕
boom looks bad ass! ratlines are a dream!! interior lovely...
mexico still open!! good luck
3:49
You never forget your first
Well this was a very well rounded episode. The boom looks great and the galley cabinet came out nice. Take care guys.
Nice job building the boom, it looks great and very strong.

I thought I was handy . You guys have serious skills . Good luck . Happy for you .
Looking like she is almost ready to go to work!! She’s really coming together guys, cheers
You guys must be so proud of what you've built. Looking fantastic fellas!
The whole boat is looking great. You might want to bring some of the cherry into the cabin and add some tung oil to it. The red from the cherry will probably change the appearance of the yellow.

I do appreciate Thursdays so much, Salt & Tar in the morning and Steve Wallis at night.
Holy shit that planer was loud Ruth 🤣

Looking like a Pirate ship!
as always i'm inspired by the hard work of swab!
I think more red in the paint will turn out great once you start painting it, be bold!
I thought George Buehler said "Nail up a boat and go cruising." - Gitter Done ! jaja !
Sooooooooo Beautiful !! And the boat too .
Pretty fearless on Ruthie mixing the paint.
I love that stout boom.
😂🤣😂 when that sander was left on when Ruth grabbed it
That paint has so much added to it that a computer is going to have a hard time matching it.
Thank God you did the mixing because it went from cringe to a pretty good match

My friends boat had with a skinny thin main boom in a stiff blow it bent like a bow and arrow , i always waited for it to snap that was on San Francisco bay where the wind can really blow !
BOOM!!!! Thanks for making another great movie!
Coming along nicely⚓️
Looking good ! Looking good !
I saw that stealing power from the neighbors. lol :)
Yes...you should always prime raw wood before paint
Robust looking boat. like it.
I look forward to every Thursday for these videos. Thanks guys.
It’s coming out great best of luck God Bless
She is a boat!
I love this team of dedicated salty sailors and there style...
Another enjoyable episode and excellent milestone congrats!
From a retired professional's point of view, I would certainly round over that cradostadt. It's going to hurt someone someday.
The boom looks nice. Beautiful grain and compact. Be well. 🇱🇺Amsterdam⛵
Nice Vid. Swab rules..... nice friends.
Filming AND carrying half the boom...Ruthie! oh yes.
That was one day?!
You really DID kick some …!
Congrats to all the well-done work!

I'll have to check it out. I herniated a disk in '77 and have had intermittent problems ever since.

Ruth, you have been at it for 6 years.
I should build a boat in my backyard... That would put me back in shape! 🤣
And quite possibly, your back out of shape.
Nice Garrett She's looking fabulous she's beginning to show her character. Yeah the beam looks a little beefy but that's fine Garrett. She's look great. I think a little more orange looks better Ruth. Its fine! looks awesome...
It really is turning into a beautiful boat. Great work!

Does Swab prefer 3 strand rope or braid on braid to chew on?
13:55 - There is no such thing as "just my back."

11:14 Any other MBs here from the Whiskey Tribe? Gotta love royalty free music.
I so enjoy your videos! Thank you Salt and Tar for all you do! Swab you get some credit too;)
Hey Ruth picked up the heavy end. That's not right!
Garret, I agree with you that it could be a little thinner but it looks really good as is
Better too thick, it can be sanded back later but you can make a thin boom thicker.
hi guys, i work with chaser just up the river and i stopped buy on Sunday and heard the sanders running i waited for a while but no body came out so i left i just wanted to offer some help and see what you needed help with i might try again soon. did not want to stop progress the boom looks great
Looks pretty nice
You kids are a lot of fun. Capt. Bill
honest laughs at the end, cool. :D
Looks great
It looking great you’ll be sailing away soon
