What does the Bible say about alcohol?

  • I’ve heard people argue that the wine mentioned in the Bible was non-alcoholic, however, we have examples in the Bible where people drank too much wine and became drunk. That can only happen if the wine was alcoholic.
The idea that alcohol is sinful originated around the time when Welch invented non-alcoholic grape juice. Up until that point, there was no stigma about drinking alcohol, and in many countries, they’ve never had a problem with alcohol. In fact, up until Welch’s grape juice was invented, the Church always used wine for communion.

@Joe Joe Not at all. Wine in the Bible also refers to grape juice. Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

For the past half a year I've started drinking, confident that I could keep it well in moderation the way God intended. My parents were very bad alcoholics in my youth and for the longest time I'd vow to never touch a drop. Then I moved away last year and decided I could handle it.
...I couldn't. To be honest I never got too drunk that I'd slur my words and couldn't stand straight, at least not lately. When I did, I never enjoyed it. I prefer the room to stand still, thank you!
Anyway I quit just a few days ago because I was beginning to get good at it. It would take more than half a 12 pack of beers before I was content, and I'd go through 2/3 of a liter of vodka before I was satisfied. Again, I could handle it pretty well, it's just the amounts I'd go through. It'd help me sleep at night.that was the main reason I'd drink in the first place. Basically, it was a very expensive habit and it'd take more and more for me to be able to sleep so I quit and switched to ZZZquil.
I don't really have a point here other than I find it interesting that this video was uploaded so recently. God really works in mysterious ways. I'm still avoiding alcohol but it's nice to know that if I wanted to, maybe at a restaurant or something I could celebrate, in public it's very easy for me to have a drink or two without going overboard. Maybe I'll just leave it in celebratory occasions. Maybe I'll continue to avoid it entirely. I'll definitely have to pray on it.

I would take what he said with a grain of salt because he just said that grape juice didn't exist until later. It makes no sense that grape juice was invented later. You mean to tell me people sat around for thousand of years and didn't think that if these squeeze juice into a cup they could just drink it right away...? If I squeeze juice out of fruit and put it in a cup and let it sit there a does it immediately turn to alcohol? No. It does take time to froth and ferment.
Lastly wine in Greek meant anything that was little fermented or heavy fermented. It was all the same. We need to read the bible context.
Why would Jesus. Someone good and God. Use alcohol to represent His blood in Matthew 26?

Thank you for using common sense when studying the Scriptures. Yesterday at the Baptist Church we’ve been attending for a few months (first Baptist church I’ve ever attended in my whole life of growing up in the church) the pastor said drinking alcohol is like French kissing Satan. He also said that you are a fool if you drink even one glass of wine haha 😂 someone has a problem 👀 He is so focused on alcohol, smoking, and cursing. He’s not focused at all on why people do those things and what needs to heal to stop doing those things: rejection, abandonment, dysfunction, depression, etc. He doesn’t go deeper at all. He also does not meet the qualifications in the Bible for an overseer. He’s a very arrogant man, quarrelsome, not respectable, does not have self-control, and does not manage his house well which spills over to the church as to why it’s so unorganized and dysfunctional. Also why there’s barely any children there and a few other things. It’s time to move on LOL 😂

*Breathes Sigh of relief* Well, this video certainly makes me feel better about my channel, hahaha! But on a serious note- there are indeed Christian denominations that frown on alcohol as a whole, not even using it for Communion. There's usually a good reason for it, such as tempting reformed alcoholics. As always, great video Lex.

So if I drunk some alcohol and got a buzz, would you not say that is a mild state of drunkenness?
How does being buzzed differ from being drunk?
I understand tolerance levels are different, but you don't know you are buzzed until you are, and depending on a lot of variables, an individual can arrive at that buzzed feeling at different times.
I'm not arguing, just asking how you all reason with this .

    • @danielrobertson2154
      @danielrobertson2154 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I'm sure a mild buzz isn't a sin so long as you recognize it and stop drinking so as not to become drunk. I know cops say buzzed driving is drunk driving but thats the police, and they say that because it is illegal to operate a vehicle if you are above a state specified limit.

In the church age we are all saints and we should worship him in spirit and truth with sober mind as we are serving the body of Christ which is our tabernacle as corporate and we are also his temple individually.

So simple. So true. Most of the churches on the African continent or pastors from Africa who have fellowships in UK preach against drinking alcohol. I have been over-ruled when sharing these simple truths and it is such a shame. Thank you.

If your conscience agrees with scripture, then it is perfectly OK to enjoy a glass of wine. Use a little wine for your stomach's sake, was of medicinal and health benefits to Timothy. The majority of our immune system is in our gut and as such, gut health is vital for being healthy long term. Red wine helps boost your immune system by helping your body produce what it needs through DNA reading. So is olive oil. If you have certain issues (I am assuming health), begin by trying the following:
      1. Most importantly try intermittent fasting (Autophagy is what your body needs to be doing from time to time to recycle at a cellular level as well as many other benefits)
      2. Remove Sugar and limit carbohydrates (Sugar inhibits cellular communication and produces lots of other negative results)
      3. Consume lots of fermented vegetables (especially fermented cabbage for the bacteria in the fermented cabbage is brilliant for your gut microbiome)
      4. Consume foods with good fats (eg, Avocado, Salmon, Olive Oil)
      5. Eggs with butter
      6. Use a little red in conjuction with these foods (especially Olive Oil as those two work together really well)
I am speaking from experience and scientific research. I have lost about 30kg, have lots of energy, feel great mentally, haven't gotten ill or even had a cold for over a year. A friend of mine who is an actual longevity scientist and has degrees from Harvard keeps me up to date with the science in this field. A little red wine my brother is very good for your overall health...
