Shiren, the second vocalist usually plays guitar as well, but unfortunately he has some health issues and can't play guitar through a full concert, so he's taking off some songs and spends his time growling. But if he plays, he's just amazing as Jinya the other guitar player. Jill (violin) takes over some of his guitar parts here. Here's one where he is also on guitar: th-cam.com/video/5oHPCQucm3U/w-d-xo.html
The violinist was not using an electric violin, its acoustic and she is an absolute monster. She quite literally covered Dream Theater's The Dance of Eternity blindfolded, which should be enough to prove how much of a beast she is on violin. Next song - Angreifer live
For a song where Jill really goes off, try Tower of the Blood: th-cam.com/video/OVKc7jJ54UI/w-d-xo.html There's over a minute solo just by herself before everyone else jumps in, and it's glorious. Fuyuki Tenge does 2 voices, playing narrator and the girl in the tower, wearing a costume she made herself. Shiren is backup guitar on his Strandberg while Jinya shreds. Definitely a song where the live version is much, much better than the one on the CD release.

Unlucky Morpheus (UM) were started in 2008, as a side project, by Shiren and Fuki. They were in another band that was also a side project that did covers of video game songs, after the band stopped Fuki told Shiren that she had enjoyed working with him and wanted to do it again, so UM was started. It was just the 2 of them for a number of years. They did Touhou (a video game series in Japan) arrangement albums. After a few years the fans wanted to see them live, so they asked some friends to help them play live. In 2013 they added another member, who is also a singer, whom Shiren also had a side project with, then they slowly added other members, with Jill violin being the last in 2016, at this point it was still a side project, as all the members were in other bands, 1 or 2 still are. It wasn't until about 2017/18 that they started to make it more full time, as they started to release that they had become popular, not only in Japan, but around the world. They did there 1st tour of Japan in 2017 and played out side Japan for the 1st time in Oct 2019 in London, were I saw them. They have said that they want to do a world tour, but that idea is on hold due to the current problems. Fuki (singer) is just a workaholic, in 15 years she has been involved in over 90 releases, mostly full albums. Apart from being in UM she is also in Doll$boxx, a side project between her and Gacharic Spin (pop rock), she also has her own solo act, plus many other things she is part of inc guest appearances. She is also a designer and occasionally does modeling work. Shiren (growls) is normally the lead guitarist, but he has tenosynovitis of the arm, so has to rest it, now and again, so Jill takes over his part playing violin when they are live in 2 songs, Black Pentagram and Angreifer. He has started to do more growls lately due to his arm problem, so they a lot of songs with out the growls. The growls are natural. He was also in the 1st Kami band (Babymetal) at Legend "I", he has also been in lots of other bands. He also plays Bass, Keyboards, Piano, Trumpet, Programming, Drums, Percussion, Arrangement, Composition, and various other instruments. Jill (violin) is just ........................ What can you say about Jill, that you can't say about the rest of the band, she is just super talented, she is a Tokyo University of the Arts graduate and totally the real deal. She has her own YT channel (jill violin channel). She has also done and still does work with other bands, some of them are big names in Japan. When she 1st joined the band they did tend to put her down in the mix when they did studio tracks, but now as the fans love her, they have moved her a bit more to the front. They have also started a side project called "Quadratum From Unlucky Morpheus" which is Jinya, Jill, Ogawa, and Fumiya. They are doing instrumental covers and have an album out. Fuki has said that the violin takes the part of the vocalist. Jill can near enough play anything on a violin that can be played on guitar, try this 【Cover】Van Halen - Eruption (Violin Cover) th-cam.com/video/eTb0TQtVT6k/w-d-xo.html Ogawa (bass) is really a jazz bassist, he is in the band as he was friends with the other members before he joined. He was a protégé of Mikio Fujioka, who you may know from Babymetal's Kami band, were in a band called Trick Box, way back in 2008. Jinya (guitar) has his own band called "Carbonic Acid" and also plays in another band called "Undead Corporation". He has also had to do a bit more of the guitar work due to the problem with Shiren. Fumiya (drums) Another member that has had a lot of work with other bands over the years inc Galneryus. Also male :) There is one more member of the band, who you never realy see, as he only appears at some of the live shows in Japan. He is another singer, who used to be in 2 other side projects of Shiren's, one of them also had Fuki as well. That is "Kasumi". While UM are a metal band, they refer to them-self's as a technical melodic speed metal band, they can play other styles, and often do when live. They some times do jazz, smooth, rock, on Christmas day they did a live stream which was very smooth.

Tends to be a thing with Japanese bands. Their sound engineers are absolutely brilliant. I mean you watch a crossfaith live show and they're all cleaner than the studio versions lol. But yeah, most Japanese rock live shows are better than the studio version
Make sure you give the studio version of this a good listen. It sounds a lot less chaotic and seems to blend the disparate elements a lot better. In the studio version the lead vocal dominates strongly accompanied by the primary melody line from the violin and guitar. The other elements get nicely woven into strong central melody. In this case, I think the studio production helps weave this together. Their studio guys seem to have a good idea how to work with this sort of material.
Shiren is their studio guy. He does all the composing and mixing. So even though he can't play his guitar as much anymore (which is also why he started growling more so he'd have a more active role during live performances) he's still the heart of the band.

This is very nice listening to since my journey into Symphonic Metal... Here's a J-Metal band bringing in some of that sound with the violin and these guys have ENERGY on stage!
Guitarist is second guitar in this band, male singer is normal lead, but of late has some physical issues that Jill on the violin has taken his parts...Jill just covered Malmstein with these guys... Get used to these guys playing 100 mph... its kind of a thing...lol Not all their stuff is like that but the majority is.... and you're right sbout the bassist...🤘😎
with Unlucky Morpheus and Band Maid you have two incedibly good bands that are technical but also just make you feel good....unless its a band maid ballad that just hits the feels still good tho recommended for both of them : the catalogue( i know my grammar sucks)
Jill (v) is one of the most talented violinist in Japan she won a lots of award and not to forget to mention she can translate a 7 string guitar to a violin

BTW I went to Itunes and got one of your bands albums (I won't mention bands name lol) and adding several off that album onto my UBS Stick to compliment the songs already added from this channel :) Keep NEW Stuff coming on here!
ROFL @ David... I sure HOPE you do NOT have any Aryeon projects in the queue, IF this is sensory overload WAIT until Arjen's Ayreon projects hit your ears! And this band here, I'm digging Unlucky Morpheus so far in!
Yup IF Ayreon will be on here you're going to get BLOWN away... 100X better arrangement wise, tasteful layering and the channel splits he drops on you when least expecting.. Unlucky Morpheus is good from what I am hearing so far BUT NOT mind blowing for me AFTER Ayreon's projects I am tasting so far!
My LAST comment ( David thinking SURE SURE Bruce... lol).. IF you wanted 20 min and then another 20.. YEah Ayreon would FRY your mind for sensory overload and NEEDING to go back a FEW times and relisten JUST to catch what you missed! A Masterpiece project!
Unlucky Morpheus are fantastic on their own. Also comparing them (or any other band for that matter) to Ayreon is a bit unfair, don't you think? Ayreon is its own beast and not a band in the traditional sense.
@@cepho8349 NOT the traditional band BUT Arjen DOES compose the majority of the music, basically leaves lyrics up to some of the singers to add upon, but on the albums it's all him recording what he composed, and I forgot now who mixes/engineers for him. As MUCH as I LOVE Rush, I am not sure anyone on the Prog side touches the Aryeon projects.
They are a excellent band. Anyway , please check out another Japanese band called THE STEREOGANG because you should defiantly like them and they are the best New Band to come out
Two points I want to make. 1. In my opinion, their official mv is 10 times better than this live sound mixing recording. 2. It’s rumored that this song was inspired by the anime Attack on Titan.
Why do people always recommend this one? There are so many better clips to introduce them. Shiren is not playing the guitar. People will think he is a singer. And audio mix is all screwy. Go to these following and be mind blown. "Angreifer" LIVE official channel ----- "Dignity of Spirit" LIVE official channel ----- "Kight of Sword" LIVE official channel ----- "Le Cirque de Sept Coleurs" LIVE official channel ----- (these two are not official channel) "Get Revenge on the Tyrants" LIVE (this video gets nuked often) ------ "Change of Generation" LIVE ----- "SIVA" LIVE **** oh, and the bassist used to play ONLY Jazz before this band. He is amazing as well.
Just going to be a little annoying and suggest the same song I listed in my previous comment on another video. Versailles - Masquerade ( m.th-cam.com/video/niAl_paNrh0/w-d-xo.html ), and as I said before these are performers in every aspect.
@@THEDavidHeretic Thanks for giving them a chance. Often requests for Versailles gets drowned out by Nightwish, Band maid, Unlucky Morphius etc, that are also good band's ( just not as good in my opinion 😀).

Looks like you´re going through the "japan rabbit hole". Don´t be afraid, a lot of people goes before you 🤣 You must understand some facts to try to understand "why Japan have a lot of great bands and nobody say you before" First. People underestimate music from Japan because "it´s only a country". Yes, it´s only a country but with arround 126 million people. Yes. 126 MILLIONS and this is a huge market The language barrier. A lot of people thinks that "in Japan anyone can speak english". Well, by my experience this is a huge lie. Not a lot of people are really fluent in english and of course, if you are doing music in Japan the norm is do in japanese. There´s a lot of spanish speakers as an example in EEUU but japanese?.... really? Quality. Music in Japan is part of the schoolar curriculum. Children learn to play pianica or recorder in kinder, and a huge lot must learn to play an instrument in High School. You have literally millions of new musicians every year. Of course a lot of them are really bad but just think about how many true musical genius are lost because they never learn music They have really good musician schools. Not only classical oriented, but the ones who teach how to play drums, bass, electric guitar, sing, etc. Oh, and a national entertaiment is... KARAOKE !! They have a lot of great bands because they care for music as a society, no more no less. I´m afraid a do some mistakes here and there, but english aren´t my first language so... sorry and bear with it. Btw, you was so kind so react to Aldious (really a nice band). Here is another band you maybe can be interested: Scandal They are one of the oldest still active bands in the rock scene with more than a decade of works and near a dozen os studio albums.
A little vibrato may be nice, but this female vocalist's vibrato depth is annoying, pitch descending to a near-growl. So many staccato notes that the whole song left me...PERCUSSED! hehehe..."OoooMmmm" ...I'm ok now...hahaha

Knight of sword - has a bass solo ,also one of their more well known songs. th-cam.com/video/5oHPCQucm3U/w-d-xo.html
Change of generation - shiren (the composer/guitarist/ the harsh vocalist) if reffering to the video you just watched) mentioned this song has the one of teh hardest guitar solos he'd have written, but in this played by the other guitarist Jinya because of problems he had with tenosynovitis. (No one has ever reacted to this yet) th-cam.com/video/Lcwk2jhw07c/w-d-xo.html
Cadaver Revadac - if you're looking for a masterpiece compositional wise. Revadac is the first song played backwards note for note except for the drums , and the lyrics, which the lyrics also the opposite storyline of the Cadaver. I'll link you with the video with a music sheet on it as well th-cam.com/video/_yrNRhIreyE/w-d-xo.html

@@THEDavidHeretic I would love to see your analysis between the original version they were doing in 2013 th-cam.com/video/-NMPMKMNqRA/w-d-xo.html pre Jill on the violin vs the 2018 one that Paul posted. I think it would be very interesting to hear both and listen to your comments on the differences both have. Personally, I like the 2018 more but I still appreciate the older one for other reasons

Nice to see galneryus as well. They are Really underrated
Oh, great choice, great reaction !!
Thank you very much.
For the next reaction, I highly recommend the following.
Unlucky Morpheus - THE TOWER OF BLOOD LIVE English + Romaji Lyrics

@@THEDavidHeretic Thanks you. I am glad to hear that.
However, if you search for a video with the following string, a high quality video will appear at the top, so please try it.

This is Metal mini orchestra i think... :)
This is very nice listening to since my journey into Symphonic Metal... Here's a J-Metal band bringing in some of that sound with the violin and these guys have ENERGY on stage!
It's NICE hearing a J-Metal band NOT sounding like the others! So far these guys are there with Lovebites for me!
"i am suffering from sensory overload"
Yeah Japan will do that to you
Guitarist is second guitar in this band, male singer is normal lead, but of late has some physical issues that Jill on the violin has taken his parts...Jill just covered Malmstein with these guys... Get used to these guys playing 100 mph... its kind of a thing...lol Not all their stuff is like that but the majority is.... and you're right sbout the bassist...🤘😎
Your intro always startled me in the beginning with the WHAT WHAT lol
You mean the Mister Torgue part, or the Sheila part?
with Unlucky Morpheus and Band Maid you have two incedibly good bands that are technical but also just make you feel good....unless its a band maid ballad that just hits the feels still good tho
recommended for both of them : the catalogue( i know my grammar sucks)
Ik my requests gotta be comin soon
Jill (v) is one of the most talented violinist in Japan she won a lots of award and not to forget to mention she can translate a 7 string guitar to a violin
ANOTHER new band for me... Will this be another treat or.... .
KEEP the new bands to this channel coming, I am digging getting some new music to listen to!!! My UBS stick is growing fast JUST from songs I am discovering on THIS channel! LOVE IT!
Next one Please react to 《knight of sword》🙏🏻

The official live is a great choice! 🤘
Thank you!
They are a excellent band. Anyway , please check out another Japanese band called THE STEREOGANG because you should defiantly like them and they are the best New Band to come out
Jill !!! 🎻🔥🤟
Two points I want to make. 1. In my opinion, their official mv is 10 times better than this live sound mixing recording. 2. It’s rumored that this song was inspired by the anime Attack on Titan.
This song is about 「魔女メディア」(The Witch Medea), a short story by Suzue Miuchi.
Check here for Fuki's translation and song meaning: redd.it/ifn6kt
Oh cool :) thank you.
Why do people always recommend this one? There are so many better clips to introduce them. Shiren is not playing the guitar. People will think he is a singer. And audio mix is all screwy. Go to these following and be mind blown. "Angreifer" LIVE official channel ----- "Dignity of Spirit" LIVE official channel ----- "Kight of Sword" LIVE official channel ----- "Le Cirque de Sept Coleurs" LIVE official channel ----- (these two are not official channel) "Get Revenge on the Tyrants" LIVE (this video gets nuked often) ------ "Change of Generation" LIVE ----- "SIVA" LIVE
**** oh, and the bassist used to play ONLY Jazz before this band. He is amazing as well.
Check out knight of swords... Same band. 🤘

Cocaine. That's the only word I have for this. Wait no... panic attack. I can't do that song.

Anything to do with Pentagrams reminds me of Black metal. One of my favourite Black metal bands a.t.m . Is "Ghost ". Square hammer" is one of my favourites...... Not really a fan of "Unlucky Morpheus". Unlucky.
I'll need a link so I watch the correct video. Is the name of the band Ghost or Square Hammer?
@@THEDavidHeretic Hi David. I included the link in your suggestions page. I wasn't sure whether you wanted me to post it on this page. Regards Bogdan. The name of the band is Ghost.

Looks like you´re going through the "japan rabbit hole". Don´t be afraid, a lot of people goes before you 🤣
You must understand some facts to try to understand "why Japan have a lot of great bands and nobody say you before"
First. People underestimate music from Japan because "it´s only a country". Yes, it´s only a country but with arround 126 million people. Yes. 126 MILLIONS and this is a huge market
The language barrier.
Of course a lot of them are really bad but just think about how many true musical genius are lost because they never learn music
They have really good musician schools.
Here is another band you maybe can be interested: Scandal
They are one of the oldest still active bands in the rock scene with more than a decade of works and near a dozen os studio albums.
You need to chill out man! lol
A little vibrato may be nice, but this female vocalist's vibrato depth is annoying, pitch descending to a near-growl. So many staccato notes that the whole song left me...PERCUSSED! hehehe..."OoooMmmm" ...I'm ok now...hahaha
Peter, they’re Japanese, vibrato is their thing
