- I met my love near Woolwich Pier beneath the big crane standing
And all the love I felt for her it passed all understanding
Took her sailing on the river, flow, Sweet River, flow
London town was mine to give her, sweet Thames flow softly
Made the Thames into a crown, flow, Sweet River, flow
Made a brooch of silver town, sweet Thames flow softly
At London yard I held her hand at Blackwall Point I faced her
At the Isle of Dogs I kissed her mouth and tenderly embraced her
Heard the bells of Greenwich ringing, flow, Sweet River, flow
All the time my heart was singing, sweet Thames flow softly
Limehouse Reach I gave her there, flow, Sweet River, flow
As a ribbon for her hair, sweet Thames flow softly
From Shadwell dock to Nine Elms Reach we cheek to cheek were dancing
Her necklace made from London Bridge her beauty was enhancing
Kissed her once again at Wapping, flow, Sweet River, flow
After that there was no stopping, sweet Thames flow softly
Gave her Hampton Court to twist, flow, Sweet River, flow
Into a bracelet for her wrist, sweet Thames flow softly
From Rotherhithe to Putney Bridge my love I was declaring
And she from Kew to Isleworth her love for me was swearing
Love it set my heart a-burning, flow, Sweet River, flow
Never saw the tide was turning, sweet Thames flow softly
Gave her Hampton Court to twist, flow, sweet river flow
Into a bracelet for her wrist, sweet Thames flow softly
But now alas the tide has changed my love she has gone from me
And winter's frost has touched my heart and put a blight upon me
Creeping fog is on the river, flow, Sweet River, flow
Sun and moon and stars gone with her, sweet Thames flow softly
Swift the Thames flows to the sea, flow, Sweet River, flow
Bearing ships and part of me, sweet Thames flow softly.
How amazing to hear , my two favorite Irish people singing together. It breaks my heart then mends it. Rest now our sweet Sinead..long live my darling Christy Moore..
RIP Sinead, I have always loved watching you harmonising in this song...
Totally heartbroken to hear about Sinead’s passing, what a beautiful brave woman. She stood up for the underdog and shook the foundations of the so called authoritarian’s but that’s for another day. Rest in peace my darling.💕💕💕
No one can undersing like Sinead....and frankly none can oversing as she can either. 🙇♀️
Farewell my darling.
Utterly sublime. Remarkably gifted singers.
🎉
A beautiful rendition….also includes Neill MacColl, son of the songwriter Ewan MacColl
This song is remarkable. Trust Christy to never fall to cheap gimmicks or modern day show-off, self-promoting banality. Beautifully and sensitively backed
Is it just me or is Sinead as fascinated by Christy's singing as I am?
Musically, this is a fantastic version of this great song. Sinead O'Connor's harmonies are so relaxing . I love it.
the
A triumvirate of musical perfection...honestly : if you don't like this, there is something rotten in your soul.
2:57 spot on.
Sinead - Irish legend. Just exquisite
Que c'est bon de voir ma tendre et douce Sinéad, je t'aime mon Ange ❤❤❤
Christy, the sweetest voice. When I row or Cox, I think of this. I love the Thames, almost more than anything. That friend and monster in equal measure. It has given me experience, strength and greatest friends I will ever have. Sweet Thames, flow softly. TB.
Sublime rendition of thie Ewan Maccoll clasic. And what a beautiful understated performance from Sinead.
Perfect!
Planxsty's was all I've known for 40 years, decided to look up the lyrics, and found my way here. Thanks, youtube.
Rest in beauty, Sinead.
Artisti ispirati cantano con il cuore, bellissime voci. Sinead sembra incantata da questa armonia, voce delicata ❤ nostro angelo, vola alto e in pace
This song keeps going around in my head all day. It is wonderful.
Ride on Christy! Hope you’re doing ok Sinead! 💕
💔
Tá do solas fós ag taitneamh orainn. Your light still shines upon us. Farewell, beautiful Sinead.
Sinead is so angelic.
She has a beautiful voice.
I love sinead here..and her collaborations... she is amazing...
I'm glad he's not 'mainstream '...it's more intimate that way.
But it's their loss. He gets better with age and that's the truth...passion and affection for the songs.
Unique.
Two of all time loved singers lost count how many times I've seen christy sing and Sinead you break my heart listening to you sing.
How lucky to Christy sing and with an angel..two them singing breaks my heart and mends it all at once..rest now our sweet Sinead..long live Christy Moore..
That smile directed at Christy by Sinead is very telling!
beautiful song , beautiful young lady, beautiful Ireland.
And beautiful Christy. 👍
Ireland, the land of saints and schizophrenics.
@@longjohn77 Schizophrenics?
@@user-ys5yv2nz6w creative depressives, and no more than the usual percentage. There’s no doubt a rich musical scene and range of rich moods plays into how quite a few have been celebrated musicians.
Eternal love & peace for you Sineád...
Goodbye Sinead O'connor. Beautiful Irish girl, artist, protester.
Loved by so many
Your grief was too much for this world
I hope you are with your child now . . .
Simply beautiful 💚💚💚
Beautiful. The joy and smiles on the faces as the song progresses, a testimont to feelings held by three performers. Beautiful.
Nobody who has commented on this has noticed/mentioned that it's not just Christy and Sinead, but also Neill MacColl, son of the songwriter Ewan.
I've just discovered Martha and Rufus Wainwright (and other members of that amazing family) and their rendition of this beautiful song. They're are heavenly! Superb! And, as is often said in Canada - - awesome! And I have made a point of not using that word. I'm glad I kept it for the Wainwrights 🇨🇦🎶💕
Who plays the nicest guitar on this side of the Danube
He is a great artist. He believed in her when she was very young.Sinead is just sweet
I happier times...
What a wonderful interpretation of the Sweet Thames. The people who criticised the performance have obviously no understanding or appreciation of music.
That's bit of a stretch !
I don't see a single comment that is anything less than deep praise.
@@patricias5122 I agree who’s critical of this song. They both have amazing voices…period
I hope Sinead O'Conner feels better, poor wee soul can do it for us. Love fae Scotland .
Beautiful,Sinead and Christy together................magic.
Love this Christy Moore with Sinead.........sweet flowing song.
What a beautiful song!! I've been a long time fan of Sinead O'Connor. Thanks for uploading this. 5 stars! Peace2U, Kim
I enjoyed this very much
I had forgotten about this song until reminded recently.
How could I have ever done that?
What a lovely version... and there are others with different verses.
Just nice for Christmas too.
Excellent. RIP Sinead.
first time I heard Christy sing this song. it's fantastic
Christy Moore sung this on the first Planxty album, sometimes known as the 'Black' album in '1972/73.
You may find Sinead beautiful but she certainly isn't professional. She's out of tune, singing the wrong words and obviously under prepared.
She's a liability.
Christy Moore & Sinead O'Conner, .blend well, in this beautiful song. I was a Sinead O'Conner follower, also. I Loved her earlier Work. Dee O'Donoghue.
and don't forget Neill MacColl on guitar, half-brother to Kirsty MacColl
This is Absolutely Fantastic Beautiful Mesmerising Timeless
How beautiful is sinead 💚💚
I really did meet a lovely lady at Shadwell docks in 1966. Farewell, Judith. May New Zealand hold your legend, softly. --LG
Stunning song by the mighty Ewan MacColl - English folk singer, songwriter, labour activist and internationalist.
what a beautiful wee song and sinead sings like an angel
This is on the DVD Christy Uncovered, it's a love song written Ewan Mc aull for his wife Peggy Seeger, their daughter was Kirsty of Fairytale of New York fame, did you notice the way Christy looked affectionately at Sinead in a nice harmless kinda way though.
Kirsty wasn't Peggy Seeger's daughter.
Christy how do you put so much soul into your music, I am from dublin Inchicore where you used to live, know the sister well, also a sweet singer.
When I last heard this, Sinead was alive. I am sorry that she was in so much pain. The coroner says you didn't take your own life. I just wish you were still here.
It's froma series he did for RTE(I think).
It's available on DVD and is one of the most beautiful songs I hav ever heard.
give this man a temple a monument ,, asight too the world...the best irish singer whit love 4 ever...a soul withe a same.....

Thanks to you.
May music bless you
Also singing here Neill MacColl, son of the songwriter, Ewan. He composed this and so many other timeless folk tunes.
Great to hear this song! I grew up in Silvertown! Live in Ireland.
Hauntingly beautiful 👌👌
Well, that is one fine take. Christy didn't even have to sweat up a storm. That's some good tune, 'by.
The power of sweet music to stir the emotions
Beautiful, gentle and so original. If you know the thames then this will be even more poignant
Off the chart with Sinead and Callun, superstars!
thank you for sharing these collaborations!!! They are simply warming and filled with such beauty.
Thanks to you!
She's suffering from her demons at the minute. She needed to know how much she's loved and to realise this world would be a darker place with her not in it.
She's still suffering her demons today. Sure arnt we all. What a beautiful Irish singer. No one can ever deny or take that from her. Hope she finds peace.
In tears....beautiful.
Flow softly sweet Sinead.
My favourite version.
Not a song a know. Lovely. X

Lovely sir
This is great!
pure beauty - Thanks for sharing
Melody always comes first. Thanks a bunch you guys.
Wunderschön.
V2X5L thank's
This was used in the schools in England, to teach the children where places in London were, so they'd remember more easily. Not a bad idea.
Christy Moore!
lovely. Christy's wonderful voice and the lilting of the others', especially Sinead's, - which so reflects the flow of a great river. came across by accident whilst looking for something else, incidentally not so good!, as happens on TH-cam. so glad I did. am posting to my Fbk page...did Christy pen the song or is it older? I've never heard of it before. Thanks
oh gosh its so sweet sinead here...
Amazing !!!
thank you a lovely thing to sing to a sweetheart
No harm in repeating the fact that the 'other' guitarist and singer is the son of the writer of the song--Neil MacColl and Ewan MacColl.. Oh, and his mother is Peggy Seeger.
Love you sinead!!
beautiful river
That's Neil MacColl playing/singing with them - his father, Ewan, wrote the song.
A beautiful Sinéad...R.I.P.
Thanks for info on Kirsty.
