Arrma Vorteks | How to Convert to 17mm Hex

  • The new Arrma Vorteks, like many of the Arrma 3S lineup, comes with a 14mm hex from the factory.
This means your tire and wheel options are somewhat limited, as the industry standard has been either 12mm or 17mm. For the wheel and tire packages I want to try on this vehicle, a 17mm hex will work much better for me.
In this video, I show you how to use off-the-shelf Arrma parts to convert this truck over to 17mm hexes and nuts.
These parts should also work for the Granite / Big Rock / Senton.
    Parts used:
    Typhon 3s driveshafts: www.ebay.com/i...
    Typhon 3S hexes: www.ebay.com/i...
    Arrma Part 3s:
    Axle: AR310905
    Hex: AR310904
    Nut: AR310906

Nice work, I didn't know you can do this with all Arrma parts. Curious how much these parts were. But yeah M2C makes a kit for $40 but as you said it does add 5mm. My thought is though... Adding a 5mm will be pretty close to the dimensions of what a 3s 1/10 scale Talion would be, and some would like to see a 1/10 scale Talion.... I don't know, just a thought.

That is a good point - some folks do like to widen their vehicles.
I really don't like running extended hexes on a basher for durability reasons. Extending the hex just adds additional strain to that hub.

    • @3SonsRC
      @3SonsRC 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@RoadsideRC agreed on the potental for Dammage, 5mm is usually not much risk and even 10mm is max I would ever go. I would never touch 15-20mm but some offer it.

The wheel will not help hold the 2mm set screw in place. It is exposed on final assembly and can backout.
This conversion does not work on all 3s arrma vehicles.
Example: Vandetta bearing hubs will not allow you to use 17mm axel stubs bc the inner bearing is recessed further apart than the other bearing hubs.

Is it pretty easy to take the hexes off? My brother wants to upgrade his tires, but has already spent a good amount of money on new road tires for the arrma senton. So if he were to do the upgrade, he would want to be able to take them off easy in order to put his road tires on as well. It seems it would be inconvinient if we got the end pieces. I feel like the hot racing adapters would be easier to do on and off. What do you think?
