Excellent, I did not see at first that there were three different shaped lanterns. I like the one you show first but the round one is easier to build without a plan. I can read plans but not execute them well. I however can make a plan in my mind and enjoy it. It is more flexible if things go wrong. 🤗😉🤗 My project today will be to make an awl from a screwdriver. I always have plenty of spare screwdrivers.😉

Yes it is called MDF here as well.I may have to use thin plywood as that is what I have. A good dark cherry stain and it will still be pretty.🤗😉🤗

Great construction with the mechanism for lifting the candle! The dogbone rawhide, didnt knew that was possible to soak the and unfold. I will show a kuksa and a shrink pot in the days to come, I think you will like them, especially the shrink pot! Have a great day!

Awesome Tom, thanks for these tutorials. I have some rawhide on the way to make more bomb proof axe collars (Nature's Kydex!), and I think I'm going to give your lanterns a go with whatever leftover I have. There should be enough to do 5-6 lanterns, if I have my measurements correct. As for MDF, yes it's officially called that here in Canada too "Medium Density Fiberboard", but it's better known as Mystery Maple, or Wiener Wood. LOL!

Yes I found out how important a sharp knife is last night. It was a relatively new blade but not new enough I guess. It would make a slight tearing noise when cutting the wet hide. Cutting may be better described as hacking. 🤗😮🤐😮🤗 I did figure out a very good way to use the hide I had in the best way. However once I finish my first lantern I will say whether it is actually a good way or not. 🤗

On a side note, I used to work in a lumber mill where they made MDF. It is constructed of sawdust waste and polyresins (plastics). The dust is highly carcinogenic and over time can cause Cancer! I would recommend that you wear a Respirator while cutting and Sanding it. Or a minimum of a Dust mask. Be Careful with it. Skal

Tom, the content is cool. I have a wish. It would be better if the subtitle functions were enabled. Then it would be possible to enable auto translation. And make the content even more accessible to a larger group of people who do not speak English.
