    I made a KTM 390 SMT last year and I'm continuing to improve it... My bike is more similar to the 890 SMT but with the original 19'' wheels cause in Italy is illegal to change tire size

    I would love to see the process of this build if they did any. I'm sure it's a wheel swap from the 390 Duke but I'm more curious on what they did on the software end to make it work.

    That's a really cool little project. Only comment is, they should fit a front fender from a 790/890 Duke. I'm 95% sure it would be a straght fit, and the original one looks a bit "flighty".
    Oh and the reason for the discount on the SMT is much like the story with the Aprilia. Thay're just not selling any, and it's a common thing throughout most of Europe. The LC8c customers all seem to buy either an Adventure or a Duke, noone really knows what the SMT "is for" i think. It's a shame because it's a right laugh, and if you never see any dirt anyway, a much better street bike.

      I've seen a few SMTs on the road. I think the thing is that the price is kind of high for a "fun" bike in the minds of people who don't know what fun a tall sport bike can be. I also think KTM dropped the ball by using the Adventure engine and tune. Also, the front just kind of looks bad. Kiska just seems to design bad stuff these days.

      I think I gotta ride that SMT asap

    There's also a Dutch youtuber who built what he dubs the 390 SMR, based on a 390 Adventure too, same RC wheels but lots of fairings and seat from the EXC/SMC line made to fit, the way it looks is a bit controversial but he made a lot of custom parts like the triple clamps, ABS discs and even a brake disc

      @@btgmoto it's 99999Daan, he's also built a 1290 SMR and a 1290 RC8 complete with single sided swing arm and all the Duke's electronics fully functional. It's some insane stuff

    Damn!!!! It looks Ammaaazing!!!!Kevin has turned my dream into a reality. I had this idea of converting the 390 adv into a super moto version by retro fitting the Husqvarna Svartpilen spoke rims to it.

      I made a 390 SMT that looks like the 890 SMT with few hundreds of dollars in modifications without changing tires and electronics

    Looks like a fun little thing! I've got a 390 Adventure that's standard apart from a big screen and with Metzeler Tourance tyres it's a great winter bike! Forks were too stiff for me out of the box too... set-up more for off road initially I think. Could it lap Cadwell faster than your old Honda Bros though? (I have a Bros as well haha)

    • @btgmoto
      @btgmoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My stock Bros, maybe. My 700cc, cartridge fork, WP rear shock, VFR/CBR hybrid Bros... no way. But that's gone forever... :((((

    After riding this, would you say such a "small" 40-50 hp bike is more than enough to have all sorts of fun?
    I see more and more people liking smaller bikes, some realizing that bigger bikes are only required for touring and high speeds in straight lines (such as a highway), and even then it's more for comfort and preference rather than necessity.
    I am of the opinion that 40-50 hp is enough for everything, any more than that is about preference, not necessity (such as wanting to do quick takeovers on the highway).
    Of course, a huge difference is made by suspension and tires and other "peripherals" of the engine itself.

    • @btgmoto
      @btgmoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      40-50hp bikes have always been fun to ride. And people have gone around the world with half this power :)

    I just grabbed a '23 Husky 401 to ride starting in a few weeks and so I find this episode fascinating. Besides the usual 401 mods, my aim is to re-route the exhaust higher ('19 spec), put some '24 RC 390 lightweight wheels with Dunlop Mutants and maybe even consider chaining down to 415 setup to drop some un-sprung weight. I already have an older 2002 R6 rear suspension and other such "common" 390 family mods ready for the bike.
    I think Bajaj has done a great job on the Duke 390 and family of multi-generation 373cc chassis into a modders delight. If I could have found an older non-spoked wheel version at a reasonable price, I think I too would have started with the 390 Adv.

      I wish I could know more about what they did to the software end of things and maybe if they did anything to the front suspension, given the 19 > 17 wheel swap. Wish my local dealers were this "happy to tune".

    • @btgmoto
      @btgmoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@stephanematis forks were dropped through the yoke an extra few mms, as much as you can safely. Software, all I know is that the Speedo, ABS, and traction control are Recalibrated for road tyres and 17 inch wheels. Given the modularity of the platform, I'm guessing an Rc390 or Duke calibration was uploaded somehow

    I like it. Ive had an absolute ball on a 390 duke on the track. Briefly rode a 390 adventure on the road. The 50/50 tyres ruined the road ride. This bike makes a lot of sense for me. You could have fun at legal speeds.

    • @btgmoto
      @btgmoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's a lot of fun at legal speeds, but you still have to back off quite a bit, as it's quite fast. I didn't even realise the speeds I did until I saw the video back!

    • @btgmoto
      @btgmoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In KTM's own words, it's Super Moto Touring. Look at the new 890 SMT, or the old 990 SMT. 17" wheels, and the ability to ride all day :)

      Nobody can actually get a 390 SMT, don't worry. It's the ADV crossed with a Duke that one dealer is making. Thanks for the sub too!
