My oldest son does not like sweet potato pie, but he loves pumpkin pie. One year I made two pies, one pumpkin and one sweet potato. All of the pumpkin pie had been eaten but two pieces of sweet potato were left. He thought it was pumpkin and ate one. He said that was the best pumpkin pie I had made. I then informed him that all of the pumpkin pie had been already and it was a sweet potato pie he had eaten.
@@direfranchement I use a Oster mixer, and I bake my sweet potatoes before mixing the pies. I make deep dish pies so I get two pies from my recipes. The strings wrap around my beaters and I just pull them off.
Thank you Martha for sharing this amazing recipes, thank you for explaining all the details; most bakers don’t bother to do that, that’s why you will always be NUMBER ONE!!!
Suggestion: weigh your mixing bowl before adding ingredients. When you go to split the batter between the pans, you can subtract the weight of the bowl and divide by 3 to get the exact amount each pan needs.
My grandma used to make a cake called a Pig Pickin' Cake.. I have found many recipes, but none taste as good as hers... Miss Martha, do you have a good recipe for that one? 😊
You're not going to find what you're looking for. It's the same as my grandmother's cornbread. I sat and watched her as she walked me through how she made it and yet no matter how I've tried, I have never been able to reproduce it.
I've never had any of those desserts, not even chocolate whipped cream. I gotta start to try making these instead of the old stand bys I always make. They look delicious!!! Love you, Martha💜😍
I made a hummingbird cake once. It was delicious but weighed so much I was afraid to go over 3 ton weight limit bridges when I delivered it to my MIL. . 😆
It's because of the high sugar content. It caramelizes very dark on the outside of the cake. The crumb of the cake is not the same dark color. You'll find this with most carrot cake and many other spice cakes.
Same here as another commenter said, what made the cake come out so dark. However, I am wondering at what oven temperature were the fruit dried? (The cake looks very delicious, just curious about the color.)
Hi Martha! Will I be able to make a normal cake using the hummingbird recipe if I leave out the pineapple purée , bananas and the nuts? Or will it be too dry?
You're probably better off watching the "Yellow Cakes" episode if you're looking for something more simple and classic. Here's the link: bit.ly/3wsBmfH
You don't have to put lemon zest or juice in every time you make a dessert.! I don't know anyone who put lemon zest or juice in a sweet potato pie what is that,? Lol.!

How do you prevent the sweet potato pie from having those strings that cooked sweet potatoes get?

My scales can’t take the weight of a bowl with the cake mixture.
@@Elkycreates it looks like the one she was using was a lot bigger than the scale in my kitchen as well.
I love both kinds of pies, pumpkin, and sweet potato. The pineapple skins are great for flavored waters!

@@direfranchement I know what you mean, it's less to do with the recipe and more to do with the person making it. 😉

Beautiful 👀 looking cakes with the baked dried fruit or without the baked dried fruit that I'd also eat without topping on other kinds.↗😘 Awesome.
You make it look so easy.
