    Come over here to Waipahu and you'll see the same couple of kids racing up and down the street on their E bikes.
    They literally are flying up and down the street, especially when it's dark, and without lights or reflectors of any kind.
    It's only a matter of time before one or more of those kids gets seriously injured or even killed.
    Also, they don't even stop at the intersection. Most of the time, they barely slow down enough to just make the turn without eating asphalt.

    Again they aren't talking about the age limitations? The 12 year old boy should not have been riding an e-Bike. Hawaii State law for e-bikes classifies e-bikes as “low-speed electric bicycles.” Riders must acquire registration and be at least 18 years old.
    However, those who are 15 years or older are allowed to operate an electric bicycle that is registered to a member of their household.

    sorry for the child and the driver who hit the kid....but, cant blame the bike and laws....need to blame the parents and teaching their kid safety and be aware and riding bike on the road...also its not just kids its also adults on ebikes thats on the roads in ewa beach they just non chalantly ride next to cars with no care....basically it comes down to common sense safety....that 12yo got hurt because their parents didnt teach him....take accountability stop blaming laws and law enforcement

    Why is everything so hard to figure out?
    Pay me to point out the difference between e-bikes and electric motorcycles. If the money's right I'll even tell them the type of laws needed.
    Btw the bikes aren't the problem it's the rider.

    We tend to blame the ebike. In Japan, auto drivers are required to take a bicycle awareness test as a part of a driver's license. For instance, cars often park in bike lanes, taking over the bike lane, forcing the bike into car lanes. There is no enforcement on police part from keeping people from parking their cars in bike lanes. I'm a very safe ebike person, but I see cars not paying attention to bikes. They often times do things that cause problems for ebike riders. I had one close call where a car cut me off in a bike lane (I stopped in time), paying no attention at all to me, ignoring the bike lane. She ended driving off into the median with her car. This tells me educating car drivers is the bigger problem

    Ridiculous. People want more laws waist of time and money. We have laws that govern bikes and regulations for bikes that should be followed. There are bike laws and rules already in place. It is up to drivers of motor vehicles to watch for traffic. It wouldn't make a difference if that kid was on a skate board. The driver should be watching the road and is responsible for his/her actions. Don't make this complicated. It's easy. Follow the bike laws if you are on a pedal assisted ebike or road bike. Our government time and money can be spent on better things.

    I pedal a manual bike and plan to get an ebike. What'd I'd like to see is more care from everyone: bicyclists and drivers. I have kids speeding from ahead and behind in Ewa Beach. I slow down and yield to folks walking.

    Regulating the bikes creates a beaucracy. In Minnesota, we are not talking about regulating, but awareness. I keep insurance on my ebike (I have 3 of them), but I'm dead flat against regulation and beaucracy that comes with it. What I will say is this, ebikes do need to follow traffic laws that govern cars. If an ebiker violates a traffic law, then a ticket should be written. I don't believe in licenses and registrations on ebikes. I did notice that Japan has few accidents with ebikes due to the bike awareness training auto drivers are required to take.

  • @nickwinn
    @nickwinn 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    These advocates keep trying to push ebike regulation even when accidents occur when speed was not a issue. It's nothing more than gate keeping...Oh and the topping on this incident is it was a car accident, nothing related to an ebike. These people need to be shown the door.

    Well, I have an electric unicycle that goes 55 miles an hour, an electric hyper scooter that goes 50 miles an hour, a souped up Surron that goes a little over 60 miles an hour, an electric skateboard that goes 30 miles an hour and an electric mountain bike in which I bought a chip that overrides the 20 mile an hour speed limit so I can pedal up to about 33 miles an hour on that one. I'm always respectful of the rules of the road and people on the trails and I never ride on sidewalks. And as for kids, parents should be the ones making the decisions there. The Genie has been let out of the bottle and no one is going to stop this trend! Be safe out there folks! However, just understand these toys are funner than hell! It is an absolute blast!

    I've seen many Surron type e-bikes on the road recently. They are illegal for street use. Designed for of road use only. Surron is not considered an e-Bike. Legal e-bike have speed limitations of 20mph. A Surron well exceeds the 20mph limit. The riders of these e-motorbikes ride reckless, irresponsible, and unsafe. They speed, cut in and out of traffic, pull stunts like wheelies while riding on public roads. And don't follow bike laws.
