I think the reason why the apple cider doesn't smell like alcohol is because in the US cider doesn't have to be alcoholic. Apple cider is just a variant of apple juice that's usually served hot! Also I'm so happy you're back :)

Mieke Miller True there are hot and cold versions, however there is hard cider for that great alcohol taste which is good too haha.
