    I was able to remove the propeller shaft with the help of this video.
    In my case, too, the final drive side was sticking and no amount of tapping would get it off. So, I tried using this video as a reference, and it came off easily.
    I knew I had to do it. I'm sure that if you don't study the experience of your predecessors before you start, you will lose a lot of time. This video was very helpful for me.

      I haven’t had any real big issues with the transmission in any of my Touareg’s. Some weird shifting occasionally after towing but nothing crazy. I did a transmission service on my last Touareg. Helps smooth out the shifts a little bit.

    Just finished replacing the driveshaft on a 2008 VW Touareg, 3.6L gas version. The carrier on old driveshaft previously failed and I installed a JXB support at that time, lasted about 2 years, then developed a vibration at around 60-65mph. Ordered a good replacement driveshaft off ebay.
    Confirmed that rear exhaust needs to be dropped when doing this job on my model. I had ordered two new exhaust clamps knowing they would need to be replaced., P/N: 1K0253141M, Qty 2, $ 17.03 each, :Clamp. Pipe. Muffler. (Front, Rear). So only $34.
    Used the technique shown to break the rear of driveshaft loose from the coupler. I only used two jack stands on the rear to do the job. So put e-brake on, pressed brake pedal to prevent front wheels from driving, and had to rev the motor up a bit to break it free. It took quite a lot of effort to break that driveshaft free, would have been almost impossible otherwise. I put the motor in neutral, but that doesn't stop the shaft from rotating, I made the same mistake of trying to place transmission back into park and got a terrible grinding noise. If you do it, just put in neutral and then shut off the motor, still takes 5-10 seconds for the shaft to stop rotating after breaking it free.
    Installation was pretty straight forward. I got the rear of shaft loosely in place, then installed the front, then installed bolts on rear. The hard part was lifting the suitcase exhaust back into place, as it must weigh around 80-90lbs. I had to place my tool box in front to raise it, then bench pressing it, slid a storage box under rear to elevate it high enough to start bolts for rear hangers. Got it in okay after some initial struggling.
    Took the Touareg out for a test drive and the drive motion was very smooth again, so original driveshaft was on its way out at around 230,000 miles, along with using the JXB mount.
    Thanks so much for the video, made the job much easier!

    Thanks for sharing. Looks like you freed the shaft while car was still in the air in jackstands? Do you remove e-brake before putting in gear. Just trying to understand the sequence as I'm at that point. Car in air, front bolted up, rear unbolted. Start car, do you release / engage brake, e-brake? Thx

    • @spottedeuros1529
      @spottedeuros1529  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, start the car and put it into drive. First see if drive breaks it loose and if not you can start engaging the e-brake. I would do it slowly. Couple notches at a time. It won't take much. When it breaks free put the car into neutral, wait for the wheels to stop moving and then put it into park. Bob's your uncle.

      @@robincameron4091 it was my driveshaft support bearing for sure And honestly I could have probably just repack the bearings first to see how it would do and if the noise persisted then I would move onto buying just the bearing from O’Reilly’s and do that job alone just make sure you have a few hours out of your day and it’ll only cost you around 130 bucks. The other routes to go is, buying the complete driveshaft from amazon for 250 and finding a place that can install it for you since places will try to charge you 1200 for just the part alone. The only problem is some places won’t guarantee the labor since the part isn’t from their suppliers. I just paid it with the shop so I have their work guaranteed for atleast a year. If I could take it all back now. I would probably try just repacking the bearing with lube, seeing how it reacts and if the problem persists than just replace the bearing.
